The Behemoth: Release of Castle Crashers patching nearing 'end of the process'

Ever since its release, Castle Crashers has suffered from wonky Xbox Live co-op gameplay, a problem developer The Behemoth has addressed and promised a prompt fix for. Now, after over 3 months of patient waiting and hearing word that the game fixing patch entered Microsoft certification, we still have no Castle Crashers patch. So, we reached out to the crew over at The Behemoth to learn what's taking so darn long and were told:
"We're working with Microsoft to get the title update out as quickly as we can. Sadly, we can't get into details about the certification process, but we've resolved the game's issues with data loss and networking in addition to other bugs. We can't really comment on the release yet as we're not allowed to talk about it because of Microsoft, but the update's release is definitely reaching the end of the process.
We've received great support from our fans on our forums in identifying issues. That feedback has helped out a lot and we're really honored to have such an awesome group of fans in the community."
So, The Behemoth is keeping mum, but still plans on releasing the patch as soon as possible. Hopefully sooner than later, because our XBLA focus has moved on over these past few months. That said, The Behemoth could lure us back with some new DLC ...

What the hell happened to the dlc?
I'm trading my game in.
oh wait... Well played Behemoth, well played.
Gemini Ace @ Dec 1st 2008 3:26PM
The patch should come with 400 points since they couldn't put out a game that worked.
Jeremy @ Dec 1st 2008 3:37PM
I won't be buying another Behemoth game. They clearly don't care about me.
offday @ Dec 1st 2008 4:56PM
Anyone who got Alien Hominid knows that the behemoth is known for putting out glitchy games, taking 10 years to release a fix, and then always blaming Microsoft. All the while doing worthless things like distracting people with action figures and stuffed aliens, when they should be working to fix their freaking games.
Dartmerc @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:27AM
stuffed Aliens?!
Mr Bunky @ Dec 1st 2008 3:20PM
Uhh. Does anyone even care about this game anymore? They took their sweet time to patch this game and now there is a sea of AAA titles to play. The lifespan of XBLA games is short when it comes to multiplayer. It's probably too late for this game to get any legs.
Ample Salty @ Dec 1st 2008 3:31PM
I was the first one to stop caring about Castle Crashers!
murph @ Dec 1st 2008 3:26PM
Not sure who's more at fault here, MS or The Behemoth, but regardless a 3 month wait for an XBLA patch = EPIC FAIL.
Fire Fawkes @ Dec 1st 2008 3:50PM
Luckily, I never really ran into any issues with Castle Crasher's online play. It sucks for those who couldn't play online though. Hopefully some DLC (on the cheap or free...) and a good patch will help revive the game slightly.
Big Filth @ Dec 1st 2008 3:55PM
what a fuckin joke. seriously. release a broken game (severely broken I might add) then take this long for a patch??
it has been months, and nothing. I have bought retail games that had patches the first time I put them in, ON RELEASE DAY!!! for minor issues.
I have lost every save file I have ever had on this game.
If people still support them after this like they did before this game came out I will be shocked and disgusted. They dont even deserve to be on this website ever again for this.
Dartmerc @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:31AM
People still support MS after RRoD fiasco, its likely they'll continue to support Behemoth after a dodgy XBLA game.
Drew @ Dec 1st 2008 3:57PM
Didn't Epic just release a title update to fix matchmaking problems only a few weeks after Gears 2's release?
Did they not have to deal with MS certification? Why such a stark difference in time frames?
Tombstone @ Dec 1st 2008 4:06PM
GoW2: Big super triple AAA title, published by Microsoft themselves.
CC: Small indie game.
offday @ Dec 1st 2008 6:05PM
Because the behemoth is lying. They blamed MS for Alien Hominid sucking too.
Tombstone @ Dec 1st 2008 4:04PM
I didn't have any issues with CC when I played online or any problems with memory, and I enjoyed every second of it.
And I'm still going to support Behemoth.
There a small indie developer of only 8 fucking people. Give them a break you bastards. The network issues take no effect if the people playing together are relatively close. Like how the 2 people I played with live in the same province as me, which is probably why it didn't come up in tests.
And the memory thing seems to be a very random occurrence which didn't happen to them, which is why it wasn't fixed.
And I plan to play this game more once the patch comes out, since I'll be able to play with my Americana friends now when were bored and want something quick to play, which we always do with random XBLA games like N+ and Bomberman.
FreekyWiggle @ Dec 1st 2008 5:07PM
Kudos my friend!
I completely agree!
Its a great game, despite any bugs it has. Every game has bugs. Deal with it people!
I stilll play it now, and the only reason I stopped is cos my Xbox Red Ringed and would've cost so much to repair it I just bought a new one, and the license for CC is still tied to my old Xbox, so I can only play it if I'm on live, which I have to do through an ethernet cable and isnt very convenient, so I'm not on it all the time.
Ellianth @ Dec 1st 2008 11:32PM
so because a company doesn't do thorough testing of their product, it's not their fault when it breaks on arrival? What are you, an idiot?
Vcize @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:44AM
Dude, I live in Gainesville and any time I try to play with my friend in Jacksonville (less than 100 miles away) we get disconnected after a couple minutes and all my save files get deleted.
Proximity has nothing to do with it. It being broken for 98% of people and you being in that lucky 2% is what does.
Bac0nator @ Dec 1st 2008 4:28PM
This game was fun, but i lost interest when I kept getting disconnected playing with friends online... WHO LIVE DOWN THE ROAD...
I think the patch should uninstall the game and give me back my 1200 points..
Mr Bunky @ Dec 1st 2008 4:32PM
When you go to the castle crashers website for info they have nothing up and they are touting their figures. It's nice to see where their priorities are. At the very least they should give away the 1st wave of DLC if they want to retain any respect.
dylan @ Dec 1st 2008 4:45PM
I lost interest after my 360 got the RROD, and when it came back the only game save I lost was this game.
drumnjazz @ Dec 1st 2008 4:46PM
My kids and I had a blast playing this game together. Unfortunately, after we beat the game, and the kids spent hours getting all the animals, it was erased. We still have our achievements but no other characters, everything level one, etc.
I don't understand how a company can release a game that CLEARLY wasn't ready. What if you paid $15 for a movie that was only 30 minutes long?
I have sympathy for small teams of developers but, you know what? Take all that money you stole from us and hire some more dudes to fix the game.
Mike Schramm @ Dec 1st 2008 4:52PM
This is the biggest disappointment of the year, as far as I'm concerned. This game had so much promise and looked so good, and yet it was strangled to death by the technical problems, which still haven't been fixed. Xbox Live could have had a console-seller on their hands, and I don't know whose fault it is, but this was a screwup. I couldn't have recommended this game any more highly before it released, but the online issues and saved game problems have kept me and everyone else I know who bought it from really enjoying it enough to warrant the purchase.
Jack Tretton @ Dec 1st 2008 5:01PM
Since day one Castle Crashers has always been about "hurry up and wait." Wasn't there an almost year-long delay for CC after it had been demoed at a 2007 gaming conference?
Big Filth @ Dec 1st 2008 5:02PM
also, I recommended this p.o.s. to several people who bought it.
my apologies.
prence @ Dec 1st 2008 5:38PM
Yeah, I did the same thing. Now I feel like a dbag.
dunnypop @ Dec 1st 2008 5:32PM
when I first got this game, I was blown away on how much fun it was.... and then I tried playing it with my friends.... and then I tried playing it with my friends again... and then we all gave up.
Now... I'm playing Gears 2 and others...
birdshake @ Dec 1st 2008 5:55PM
I don't bitch about games often because I understand technical errors do happen but something this serious should of been caught before release.
This literally crippled the game for me I could NEVER NOT ONCE get a online game in no matter how hard I tried. I would manage to get into the lobby and ready up with everyone else then I would constantly get a "host left" error.
Aero @ Dec 1st 2008 6:03PM
Is anyone actually still playing this to care about the patch?
AoE @ Dec 1st 2008 7:26PM
That's my question... I kinda forgot the game even existed to be honest.
Xanto @ Dec 1st 2008 6:50PM
As far as I know, Behemoth is a small group of devs, not a huge one like Epic Games.
Naturally it's going to take them a bit longer to figure out the problem and fix it, but hey, it's not like anybody is going to actually read this and care.
AoE @ Dec 1st 2008 7:30PM
I read it! Aaannd... I still don't care. I mean yes you're right, they're a small team... but they released a game that wasn't ready for prime-time. I don't care how big or small your team is, that's unacceptable.
If you went to a little cafe, and ordered a slice of cake... and it came out soggy because the chef hadn't finished baking it yet, but explained to you "we're just a small cafe! we only have this one oven and I had to take the cake out early" would you find this to be an acceptable excuse? Because it's the same thing. Behemoth asked people to part with their money for an unfinished product.
Ellianth @ Dec 1st 2008 11:35PM
why do you people keep comparing this game to get epic and gears of war? They are completely different. It's like comparing a tire to an entire car. One is a lot more complex than the other.
therza2169 @ Dec 1st 2008 9:46PM
What are you talking about? I convinced my friends how great this game is and 3 of them bought it. They all live within 15 miles of my house, yet everytime we would play a co-op game I would get booted out. EVERY GAME. Now 3 months later I can't even play the game I convinced my friends to buy. It's pathetic.
Mr Bunky @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:48AM
The title update is a lie!
guidedbyvoip @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:30AM
Meh, why muck around with a broken Behemoth when I can kill Zed-words without a hitch? To hell with Behemoth. I will never buy another game. Then again ten years from now when it is released I might have changed my mind.
Jonman @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:29PM
This was certainly the biggest gaming disappointment of the year. The game was great fun in multiplayer, both times I managed to get it to work. And I bought it *for* the multiplayer.
MS needs to get some process in place to prevent this from happening more often. Mr Driller Online and Castle Crashers both had borked online modes, and were both focussed around the online multiplayer. It devalues the XBLA platform, and they have a vested interest in this *not* happening. Especially with big, hyped releases like Castle Crashers.
houkah @ Dec 2nd 2008 3:09PM
Who cares how small of a company behemoth is? They released a buggy game, found out about the bug, then proceeded to go off to every trade show in the industry instead of fixing it. Screw them.
DeathConvoy @ Dec 16th 2008 12:27PM
For all the complaints this game got - it still stands up as one of THE best XBLA games available. It truly shows what an arcade game should be.
Classic, quick gameplay, yet co-operative and high definition.
I'd still pay double the asking price for the game - for all those crying about online play, how about you buy a friend to come over and play the game. Local co-op works perfectly.
I can't understand the hold-up for the patch, but I really couldn't care less. The game is fantastic - Behemoth; please bring out more games like this.
Ike Master 111 @ Dec 28th 2008 3:53PM
They should make Castle Crashers for the Wii
