New impressions of Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
Our PC loving brethren over at Big Download recently got a chance to sit down for a hands-off session of The Chronicles: Assault on Dark Athena. Dark Athena is essentially two games in one, as it is both a remake of the first Riddick title, Escape from Butcher Bay, and it also includes a brand new campaign entitled (you guessed it) Assault on Dark Athena. Fans of the original will be happy to hear that the new campaign can be started from the outset, so it won't be necessary to play the enhanced original unless you want to.
Big Download notes that the entire team that created Escape from Butcher Bay has returned to work on Dark Athena, ensuring that the game is more than just a simple remake. Dark Athena takes place directly after the first game, with Riddick tasked with escaping the Dark Athena, a ship replete with shadows and enemies that need killing. Among the new enemies are Drones, remote controlled androids that Riddick can incapacitate and use as shields. Riddick can also ustilise an incapacitated Drone's gun and, with the help of a control station, can even control Drones directly. This comes in handy should you find heavy opposition or otherwise impassable obstacles. Overall, it sounds like the game is shaping up well for its 2009 release.

Two games in one? Sounds pretty sweet to me. I hope it shapes up well.

The first was a breakthru in movie-game tie ins and was pretty awesome but short. I will definitely be watching this one.

Escape from Butcher Bay was surprisingly great for a movie inspired game, in the same league as Goldeneye 64. I've played the whole game a couple of times, but never owned it. I would love to play a sequel if it is as good, so I might find myself buying this game.

Looks awesome can't wait to seem what it turns out to be I am pulling for the best.

Wow, amazing they are including the original also. Any word on multiplayer with it? Even with it, I do not see it being amazing, but you never know...
DBoyFlex @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:54PM
I was referring to multiplayer being if-y. Not the single player campaign.
AoE @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:30PM
yeah, considering how crap the multiplayer was in the darkness... I wouldn't hold my breath for Riddick's multiplayer not sucking.

My RSS feed showed up as New impressions of Chronicles of Riddick: Ass
So I was clicked on it just to be sure I wasn't crazy.
On topic though, I never got a chance to play the first on Xbox, so I may check this out.

I am totally stoked about this news! That was one game that isn't backwards compatible. I know many people wanted to play Riddick on the 360. Myself was included. I am excited to see this come out. I cannot wait, I think it's going to be great.

Sweet! I've heard a lot of good things, but since I never owned an original Xbox and the game isn't on the BC list, I thought I would miss out on this. Now that I know that it's being remade, I think my panties just got a bit moist. On top of that, there's a second campaign to tromp through. You had me at. . . . . i'll certainly be starting from the beginning even though i've played through the campain twice.
Butcher Bay was one of the best games i've ever played!
I think when Dark Athena comes out, i'll be even more hyped up than when Gears 2 launched :)
