Free online multiplayer for SFII HD, UNO and others for the holidays
Microsoft has announced a special deal for the holidays. In addition to the XBLM Deal of the Week -- the Legendary Map Pack is still on sale for Gold members, by the way -- Microsoft is also running the Friendship is Free promotion. Until the end of December, a select group of Xbox Live Arcade games will not require a Gold membership for online play. In other words, Silver members will be able to try online play in these games for free. The Friendship is Free promotion is active right now for the following Xbox Live Arcade games:

- A Kingdom for Keflings
- Aegis Wing
- Bomberman Live
- Hardwood Hearts
- Hardwood Spades
- UNO
- Small Arms
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

The problem here is... does anyone who only has a silver XBL account, even care about playing anything online? I doubt it.
A nice promotion, but who is actually going to use it?

I'll use it if it's free.
The reason I don't pay for a subscription is because the live community annoys the pants off of me.
But if it's free - I'm not complaining.
Always wanted to check out UNO and Small Arms, too.

There are some XBLA games that only allow multiplayer over Live, not system link. Seems silly, but then my wife (silver) and I (gold) can now team up and play spades or uno, or other games.

It's going to be a short friendship.

Apart from Uno I don't even have those games. But the fact I actually have gold means I don't care either.

Sounds like a "hit it n quit it"!
Just my style!

I wonder if they thought about making all multiplayer free after christmas or something like that to hook any new owners.

Just when I used a month of gold code.
But now my friends can play Aegis Wing.

What about all the people getting a 360 for Christmas? I mean, that gives me 1 week to play as opposed to 4. Merry Christmas, indeed.

Aegis Wing is free, so even if you don't own any of those games you've at least got one you can try online.
Plus, Aegis Wing is one of the more fun multiplayer games (although it's not so fun single player)
