We had a fair amount of
warning, so hopefully you got your boots shined and took your ten gallon hat out of storage, because
country music downloadable content will be coming to
Rock Band on Tuesday, December 16th.
The blogging crew over at CMT (that's short for Country Music Television) let the
cat out of the bag cattle out of the fenced in pasture, informing us that five country tracks will be available for purchase off the XBLM mid-December. We're told the five tracks will come from country singers Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert and those three Dixie Chicks. We're also told by CMT that the performers are all perfect choices because they're all "pretty hard-rocking country types." No sir, we don't think we need to stir the pot of controversy any further ...

Let me be the first to say....NO!!!!!!
Jorge @ Dec 5th 2008 10:17AM
If you don't like a song... then don't buy it... there might be others that like it so don't worry about it. The game was not made for you, it was made for everyone.
Big Bird @ Dec 5th 2008 11:54AM
Sorry to offend you bud, this is a comment board was a bit tongue in cheek the more content the better. People can vote with thier pocketbook if they like the content or not. There are a lot of bands I would like to see more from. More than just one song, but the more we have to choose from the better I say.
steve @ Dec 7th 2008 12:26PM
Personally, I'd like to see more variations in DLC from all genre's. My nieces and nephews love the game, but are more into today's music. Like Jorge said, "Don't like it, don't download it" - I say, the more the merrier and if it appeals to more than just rock fans, the longer the game will last, and more songs for download. You have to admit that Rockband already has some crappy rock songs that no one has ever heard before!
joeybeast @ Dec 5th 2008 9:42AM
Where's my John Denver
Ian Murray @ Dec 5th 2008 9:45AM
Actually, I've been wondering when this was gonna happen.
Not so sure about the Dixie Chicks, but Dierks and Brad can lay down the "tasty lixx".
clwnofcarnage @ Dec 5th 2008 9:51AM
About Time!! Now if we can get some Alabama, Big and Rich, Kenney Chesney, and a few others once in awhile I would be all the happier. I hope these songs do well, so they look at others. I know my parents and myself like rock music, but there is some awesome country that would be awesome to play too.
tabicat @ Dec 5th 2008 10:34AM
I thought Alabama was southern rock, not country.
And for those of you wondering why some people might object to this idea, keep in mind that when Harmonix is working on country music songs, they're not working on rock music songs. Which means those of us who are not interested in country will have to wait longer for songs that we do want, and we'll get a smaller selection. Voting with our dollars isn't going to fix that.
Tony @ Dec 5th 2008 11:24AM
On the flipside, should people into country be upset that the only thing in the games that only vaguely fit their genre thus far was Green Grass and High Tides?
There's rock on there every week. I'm sure they have multiple groups working on these things. People who want something else can wait a while. Just like people who don't like some of these new bands wait for more classic rock and vice versa.
Point is, I don't think this stuff is worth getting upset for ANY group. Every week someone will be disappointed and someone will be happier.
Deezul @ Dec 5th 2008 12:03PM
The argument "Working on country means not working on rock?" Well, when Harmonix is working on groups I DON'T like is less time they are spending on groups I do like. Stop Harmonix. You must as ME, and ME ONLY, on all remaining content. Because if you keep putting out metal, and I hate metal, I'll have to wait another week to get what I do want.
HazyCloud @ Dec 5th 2008 10:20AM
If these tracks sell well, I'd bet we see a lot more country from HMX. I for one, welcome new genres. Remember, the tracks are optional. No need to complain as no one is making you buy them.
tevetorbes @ Dec 5th 2008 10:54AM
I dunno, there were plenty (PLENTY) of songs on Rock Band/Guitar Hero that I had never heard before playing them on the game. I grew to love them very much (most of them anyhow).
Why not give some country songs a chance? I'm not a big fan of most stuff that comes out of my home city (I live a few blocks from Music Row in Nashville) but I will say that Brad Paisley can play circles around many rock guitarists of today.
And, if all else fails, you don't have to buy them, as has been echoed previously.
HaVoC @ Dec 5th 2008 11:24AM
This really isn't a bad idea at all. By promoting and using a larger variety of music more units are going to be sold simply because they are expaning their market. And, it will make the experience less one dimentional.
Eddie @ Dec 5th 2008 11:24AM
Don't do it, gamers.
You know all that homophobia you carry around privately in real life and publicly on XBLA?
It will all come true *hard* if you allow any of this in contact with your console. Hard.
Tell your friends.
nsdcx @ Dec 5th 2008 12:09PM
I never understood the usage of the word "homophobia". Wouldn't that mean I was scared of homosexuals?
I am not scared of them, I am just against their entire existence. But I guess "anti-gay" would be politically incorrect and labeled hate speech.
Eddie @ Dec 5th 2008 12:43PM
Wow, that's a great point, dude. I always understood homophobia to be fear of being, becoming, or being labelled as gay.
Does it speak to my personality that I never even second guessed my own interpretation of the term?
I bet this would be an amazing topic in a forum somewhere other than X3F. Thanks for turning my d-bag having-some-fun-on-a-friday comment into something I'm gonna be mentally processing all weekend.
gonzo @ Dec 5th 2008 11:30AM
This is great. boo hoo non-country lovers have to wait a little longer for more songs. Flip the coin and think about how long its taken for country songs to hit, and we've had to put up with a bunch of music we may not want...
scaught @ Dec 5th 2008 12:12PM
I would rather listen to the Dixie Chicks than some of the ass rock that is in Rock Band. Thats for damn sure.
Glavasich @ Dec 5th 2008 1:46PM
I would be incredibly upset if I downloaded one of these songs by mistake
Gemini Ace @ Dec 5th 2008 2:46PM
Where's my hardcore gangsta rap?
Mike Smith @ Dec 5th 2008 4:49PM
My opinion of this game just dropped a few notches. Uh.... it's called Rock Band. Sofa king we todd did. I can't stand country. I know variety is a good thing but I have to agree with the person who said now they have to wait longer for something good to be released. I am all for some Doors or the whole Apetite for Destruction album (or at least Mr. Brownstone.)
Doll @ Dec 5th 2008 5:12PM
Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn.. So far it sounds pretty damn good! I can't wait for this. I do hope they expand and bring on some more males singers like Garth Brooks and Toby Keith.
steve @ Dec 5th 2008 5:16PM
so wait they put in country and yet there is only one ska song....Ska DLC Please
butanyway @ Dec 7th 2008 5:52PM
Personally, I think they could make one hell of a game with country music alone and just call it "country guitar". there have been some (but not all) of the greatest guitar players in country. Some good examples are: Buck Owens, Brad Paisley, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, etc. These people could out pick have of the rock industry. I like rock, too, but there is so much more the guitar than what is played in rock music.
