Rumor: Next Metal Gear an Xbox release [update]

Update: Our fanboyism clouded our thoughts, this rumor is FALSE.
What do you get when you mix an official Metal Gear website with neon green color and a power button that looks similar to the Xbox 360's ring of light? That's correct, a rumor that the next Metal Gear game will be releasing on the Xbox 360!

Over on the official Japanese Konami website, there's a webpage that is nothing more than the image you see above with text that reads "A Next Metal Gear Is ...". Nothing special, except for the fact that this lil' teaser site is done in "signature" Xbox 360 green and that the weird exclamation point math problem includes a picture of a power button that could be seen as similar to the 360's ring of light. Of course, Konami is keeping quiet to what the website is all about, but we'll give some advice anyway: Don't get your hopes up.
[Thanks, to everyone that sent this in]

the obvious burn..
i hate teasers.
Numbn8 @ Dec 5th 2008 10:11AM
Usually I don't fault you guys for rumors, but that is that stupidest thing I have read on this site, if not anywhere.
That symbol is well know for power. The color green mixed with power typically means on. No one noticed the "i" as in iphone?!? wait let me try it,,,, iBox,,, nope didn't work.
It's even scarier that multiple retards sent this in as news.
RedSonRising @ Dec 5th 2008 10:20AM
this 'story' is playing out the same way on EVERY OTHER gaming news site.. nobody knows what it means but its obvious what everyone wants: MGS4 on the 360.
if MGS4 made the jump it'd be front page news EVERYWHERE so any rumor becomes headline material..
seriously, get over it..
nathan-dts @ Dec 5th 2008 10:34AM
iPhone game. Anyone here play MGS4? because if you did there is alot of apple products on there.
i = i(phone) ! = signature MGS logo (!) = ON logo
Serio @ Dec 12th 2008 5:50PM
It looks more like it's for the Wii...
ithilis @ Dec 5th 2008 10:57AM
The Metal Gear Ac!d series uses the exclamation mark in place of an 'I', as seen above, and has been been released strictly on hand-held systems.
Ac!d + iPhone = ON.
That's you're equation.
Big Bird @ Dec 5th 2008 11:57AM
"sitting on an angry chair...." anyway....cheer up dude its friday! Don't kick your dog this weekend.
vahdyx @ Dec 5th 2008 2:01PM
Like i said in the ps3 site and many others.
You guys are putting too much emphasis the letter "I"
I think it's "i" flipped 180 degrees is "!"
So 180 + 180 = 360 as in Xbox 360
So the next MGS is Xbox 360
philmcphail @ Dec 5th 2008 4:27PM
Its not that hard to believe that the next MGS can be multi-platform
Numbn8 @ Dec 17th 2008 10:07AM
confirmed by konomi. It's an Iphone game

Boo-YAH!
craig64 @ Dec 5th 2008 10:17AM
While they're at it can they also port over MGS4?
Thanks.
Devin @ Dec 5th 2008 2:08PM
How many DVD9's would that take considering the space taken by MS on every disc for security purposes/formatting?
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Dec 5th 2008 2:47PM
it would need 3 DVD's *maximum*
brazenheaded @ Dec 5th 2008 4:13PM
I will second the 3 DVD quote.. Compress the audio and the few pre-rendered cutscenes in MGS4 and Bob's your uncle..
yolarrydabomb @ Dec 5th 2008 5:40PM
I though it would be 5 or 6 discs
Mazrael @ Dec 5th 2008 6:56PM
wouldn't be that many discs, as it's mostly repeated code to get the seek times down from the blu-ray disc.. aren't the cutscenes in engine? which would mean no compression needed.. it wouldn't be all that difficult, even Konami want it to be on 360, but it's Kojima's project.. I would say 2 to 4 discs depending how lazy Konami want to be (as it's 4 installs for the PS3)..
Arnon @ Dec 5th 2008 9:02PM
2 at the most in fact. GTA IV on the PS3 was 34gb.. on the 360 it was 7gb rofl.
taco @ Dec 5th 2008 10:17AM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_symbol
I don't see how a power symbol that is an international standard formed in 1973 has anything to do with Xbox.
As for the green, well, power buttons usually light up green. Green LEDs are cheap.
This is a stretch to say the least.
OrdinaryHero @ Dec 5th 2008 10:18AM
I agree with Numbn8. I don't get how a "i" fits into the equation. If anything, I think it points to a Metal Gear on the iPhone or DSi.
the tif @ Dec 5th 2008 10:20AM
Its speculation - unless Konami and MSG has an exclusivity contract with Sony, this is a distinct possibility (the new Final Fantasy, GTA4 etc were all purported to be Sony exclusives, and didn't end up like that). End of the day, the developers want to maximize income, and you know there are a bunch of Xbox users who would love this.
Tricky Bandit @ Dec 5th 2008 10:31AM
If this came true I would be the happiest guy alive!! I always had PS systems till the 360 came out. PS3 was just too high so I switched to xbox...and I thank God everyday I made that choice! The PS3 has only one good game that the xbox does not and that is MGS4. I actually debated buying a PS3 for MGS4 and then selling it when I beat the game. Because RE and MGS games have always been my favorite IP's.
I have always had high hopes for it because when I owned a PS2 I always got mad that the "substance" games came out for xbox which had more features and the same game. I just hope that the same holds true for the xbox 360. I would actually stand in line and call into work the day a MGS game came out for xbox!!
jarhead906 @ Dec 5th 2008 11:08AM
Metal Gear Solid remained exclusive to the PS1 and PS2... there were never 'Subsistence' titles made for the Xbox...
Probably just a typo on your end.
Tony @ Dec 5th 2008 11:14AM
MGS2: Subsistence released for Xbox.
Tricky Bandit @ Dec 5th 2008 11:54AM
Yeah...substance did release for xbox. lol, I know...my nephew had a xbox and I had a PS2, and I got PISSED when it came out for xbox and not PS2. I wanted to play as the ninja too. lol, thats how I knew that.
mongoos32 @ Dec 5th 2008 2:53PM
Don't forget that Metal Gear Solid didn't stay exclusive either, well not in actual game and story at least. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes was a remake made for Game Cube that used MGS2's play style.
Mokano40 @ Dec 5th 2008 4:19PM
And MGS 1 also had a port for PC too
BitChain @ Dec 5th 2008 10:32AM
oh don't worry, no hopes getting up whatsoever. here's some math: ps3 + mgs = *yawn*
T&S @ Dec 5th 2008 10:41AM
¡ is on the ¡phone or dsi its going to be handheld
ryan @ Dec 5th 2008 10:44AM
It's supposedly called MGST from the url. Tactics? Wasn't Metal Gear Ac!d sorta like a tactics approach to MG?
This message looks to read:
You + Metal Gear Excitement = Metal Gear Excitement all around (or MGE inside a 360 degree geometrical shape).
Tho the green on black suggests...a 360 Elite exclusive?! WTF?!
willxcore @ Dec 5th 2008 10:49AM
I subscribe to all of the gameconsolefanboy sites because I own all the consoles, but boy do I hate 360 elitists.
Haohmaru @ Dec 5th 2008 12:19PM
Agreed on both counts. Console elitists are retarded in general, though, no matter which "side" they're on.
drdre74 @ Dec 5th 2008 10:47AM
People need to stop jumping the gun here. That is not only the 360 power button logo but the PS3 power logo also. Its on both systems so its not just a 360 thing. I bet they are porting over the PSP metal gear games to work on PSN and Live since they have the "i" in there.
john paul @ Dec 7th 2008 12:42PM
Is the PS3 power Green?
Brian Richter @ Dec 5th 2008 10:48AM
I have a 360 and a PS3. MSG4 is cool if you like playing the actual game for 15-20 min and then watching a half hour cut-scene. Don't get me wrong it looks incredible, but I think they gamplay is meh!!!!!!!!!!!!
AltCtrlPwn @ Dec 6th 2008 3:32AM
Right, because the game has absolutely zero replay value, and you can't skip cutscenes. Yeah.
I saw the cutscenes completely on first play (duh), skipped them all second play (where I just killed everything in sight and went for the Chicken emblem, good times), and skipped the "info" cutscenes + watched the good cutscenes that I liked and played on. I've beaten the game three times (one stealth with 0 alerts, one killing everything possible, and once with 0 alerts 0 kills 0 recovery etc.), will try a Boss run at some point . . . and I still feel like playing the game, but first I have to go back and play MGS3, while giving my other games some more time =(.
Bravo6 @ Dec 5th 2008 10:59AM
meh... I couldn't care less if it is or isn't. I've never understood it's appeal.
jarhead906 @ Dec 5th 2008 11:07AM
Even though the 'power' logo is on almost every electronic device known to man, the green color alludes to a 360 MGS title.
If MGS4, for some ungodly reason, did come to the 360, then I would consider it a shame rather than something to gloat about. The title is the conclusion of (arguably) one of the best gaming universes that exist. A lot of Xbox'ers probably didn't even experience a MGS title, which would make MGS4 a waste of $60, considering that it was developed specifically for fans of the series.
Anyway, my bet is on an iPhone/iPod Touch application, due to all the Apple paraphernalia in the game. Why not the DSi? Because while it's an upgraded version of the DS, many people consider the DS as the 'Lite'.
Anyway, screw all this 'exclusive', 'non-exclusive' crap that is being thrown around this generation. It's sickening.
Talus @ Dec 5th 2008 11:08AM
I'd say that the "i" makes it very unlikely that this teaser has anything to do with the Xbox360. Sure, the colour and the power symbol together make you think of the 360, but the "i" just doesn't fit and the colour and symbol are each too common.
Ozzpot @ Dec 5th 2008 11:12AM
As others have said, the power logo has precisely dick to do with the Xbox. The only logo the xbox has is the X in it's 2 main forms. A power logo is a power logo.
To jump to these conclusions just because the Xbox 360 has a power logo on it's power button is ridiculous. The PS3 has that too. As does my Mac. As does my speaker system. As does my electric razor. And so on.
bill m @ Dec 5th 2008 11:24AM
you nailed it!! A new line of MGS razors!
Vander @ Dec 5th 2008 11:13AM
If the equation is for xbox, then PS3 would be just another blu-ray player.
Tony @ Dec 5th 2008 11:15AM
Who cares if they're jumping to conclusions, I say. It's a rumor, they're hoping for something and I'm sure many other people are too.
It's not like this is being reported on CNN or something.
stealthur @ Dec 5th 2008 11:27AM
Terrible news post as far as rumors go. There is 0 indication for it being on 360, and thus, there's no rumor. That ending symbol, my friends, is the universal symbol for POWER. It is not exclusive to the 360. Nor the PS3. Nor anything. You have it on your phone, game console, computer, TV, etc.
I suspect either Acid, iPhone (plz no), or DSi.
Jesse @ Dec 5th 2008 11:28AM
my four theories:
MGS1 XBLA/MGS1 Remake For Xbox 360
A game showing what Raiden was doing between 2 and 4
A remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 (i dont mean XBLA port, i mean a REAL remake)
And of course MGS4 360
Dale @ Dec 5th 2008 2:18PM
if it was coming out on xbox the ring would be red, not green
Mazrael @ Dec 5th 2008 2:26PM
What do you mean.. in two years, and my 360 being on 8+ hours a day.. my 360's ring of light has always been green.. :P
Dale @ Dec 5th 2008 2:40PM
you know what i mean. i mean your an exception, your lucky, and also a fool
Mazrael @ Dec 5th 2008 3:42PM
a fool? on what grounds..?
stealthur @ Dec 5th 2008 11:29AM
Oh, and for clairty: the green does NOT lead towards the 360 either. Only fanboys will think this. Again, the PS3 uses green to say it has power, as does the Wii, as do many other devices (computers, again). A green power symbol is no closer related to 360 than a tv is.
maxpontiac @ Dec 5th 2008 11:53AM
If you Xbots want the game, get on the PS3.
It's not that hard to grasp.
If a PS3 user wants Gears, where does he go??
