We've been playing the Resident Evil 5 demo all day and, because we love you, we've thrown together a video of our impressions. There is is, sitting at the top of this post, just for you. Watch, enjoy, learn about the solid gameplay and the somewhat frustrating inventory system. Do it for yourself, your friends, but definitely do not do it for the children. It's an M rated game, after all.

It really is for the best, too. You could play the past REs either by standing your ground and shooting everything that moved, or by running past as many zombies and baddies as you could. Seems like you'll have to kill the hordes in RE5, but I think it adds to the tension and suspense, which is really the whole point.
If you could run and shoot, this would just be an update version of Doom.
It's always been a resi thing, but it is what gives the game its horror and tension. As not being able to move mean that if your not careful you lose track of what is happening and you turn round to see about 3 people about to kill you. If you are unsure about this game and still have a cube or ps2 get a copy of RE4. If you like that then you will like this... and if you havent played Resident evil 4 you are missing out on one of the best games EVER.
On an unrelated note, the realtime system is nothing new and was actually used in Resident Evil outbreak File 1 and 2 on the PS2. And this is mainly used to make online play possible.
i agree with most things you said in the video, apart from the stoping to aim, it was the exact same in RE4 you just gotta time your reloads and get to know your gun.
call me an old school resi fan but i dont like the real time weapon changes the thing about the other RE's i liked was if you see somthing comming towards you, you know you have your inventory to go into and equip the correct items and plan how are you gonna take it down, or if your totaly getting raped by zombies you know you can go into your inventory and use an f-aid.
i gotta agree resi isnt survival horror anymore, but what ive seen and played of the demo this will be a great game and cant wait for the full release gotta be an early contender for game of the year
I miss the old RE type games. This game is becoming more of an action game than it was survival horror. The best game of all times is Resident evil 3 nemesis for me. Srry for my english
I played the Wii RE4.. played it up to the spike zombies.. only cause I'm a completist did I get that far.. what killed it for me was the dumb girl you had to drag around.. I was glad when she wasn't around.. I honestly found it dull, gameplay wise & visually.. don't know if it was the Wii controls that killed it..
Might be just me, but the kick on the beretta type pistol seems a bit much on that pistol (for Chris I mean).. I would probably have to try the co op for this though I do think the stop to shoot is stupid.. I'd rather sacrifice accuracy to move, and have aiming slow you down, tailoring the movement penalty to each weopon..
- download the five rar parts - extraxt them - this will get you one (1!) folder named "content" - burn this folder to a cd - insert cd into 360, it will show up as "mixed media" - navigate to "my xbox", "demos" - click & play!
Torrenting is the best method. You can avoid the rar unpacking business, and you don't have to worry about download corruption.
I injected the demo straight onto my hard drive, which helped pretty considerably with reload times. The 360 would read my burnt DVD, but it was none too happy about it.
Actually, if you've played Resident Evil 4, you should know that headshots aren't always the best idea anymore. Not saying my aim is that great anyway though.
However, the Resident Evil 5 demo is awful. The gameplay really doesn't suit the locations at all.
RE4 was a great balance of survival-horror and action. RE5 removed the survival and horror aspects but doesn't improve the action in any way. It's essentially half the game that RE4 was.
Unless the levels in the demo are the only ones that take place outside and/or during the day and the enemies get a little more zombified (Once again, RE4 had a great balance between the zombified and "normal". RE5 seems to have lost the zombified feeling in the enemies).
This game is waste! not being able to move and fire doesn't add tension at all, its just fukking boring. You cud move in Dead Space and that didn't become a doom upgrade, the reason RE1 was scary was down to camera angles, if you make it 3rd person then stick to the conventions of 3rd person games. its a shame as the gfx are brilliant but the game sux0r and wots with the co-op? i want to pleh with my mates not sum random....typical capcom
don't make your self look like a douche. you can make a private game. after you click co-op online, there's an option up top that says no limits. just change it to friends only. 1st RE game i'm playing and it's sick. graphics, gameplay, enemies. don't bitch, just don't buy
it's only for japanese gamers that the demo is up. if you want to play it you'll have to download it like most people here did. just follow the instructions on one of the previous comments
yeah the shooting is bad, but i guess that's because i'm used to halo/ gears type of shooting and RE5 is way different. been playing it for over an hour and well it's okay. not on the top of my '09 must get games after the demo
Hmmm I played Dead Space, so RE5 you better step up. Co-op is ok it didn't make the game more fun since playing with the bot had it's own little joys too. Anyway...
The controls NEED to equal Deadspace (without the stupid Stomp). People can defend the Staying still and shooting as more scary, will I say WAY less immersive. I understand Stopping for checking you inventory but shooting COME ON! Running feels like driving a car, and why do I have to press LB+RT to Knife can't it just be LB?
Now before RE purism say it was like that in all of them. Look at RE4, THEY TOOK OUT ZOMBIES! They weren't afraid to make a change and look how well it look. It feels like Capcom is too scared to do something new with RE since RE4 did so well.
It's not even the stop to shoot that's the most annoying, it's the stop to use your machete. What I can't have my machete out and move at the same time? What's wrong with me? Am I disabled? Not good.
The graphics are amazing, and it was quite fun playing with a friend, but the controls really spoil it IMO. The controls were a great step forward in RE4, but games have moved on since then. Plus the pace in this game feels a little faster than RE4 so the controls need to reflect this.
Game just went from a first day buy to a "wait till it's bargain binned" purchase.
I live in the US and downloaded this demo off a torrent site last week. Had a lot of fun playing it. Later, I read online that Microsoft (or Capcom) had made it impossible for people with non-Japanese accounts to play online co-op. Damn, that sucked. But now, the disc won't even play the offline mode that I was playing only a week ago. Damn them!

I sort of want to play this. Exactly why can't you move during combat? Is that a Playstation thing or a Nintendo thing or what?
lee @ Dec 5th 2008 7:40PM
its a Resi thing lol
in all RE games you cant move whilst aiming your weapon
it doesnt bother me as ive played every single RE, but i can see why it might be annoying to newcomers

I wish the old inventory system was back too. The demo is good, but the new system takes a little getting used to at first.

Wow that's sweet. Shooting but not being able to run is pretty lame but, I'm sure people will adjust.
lee @ Dec 5th 2008 7:44PM
they wont adjust it, because all the other RE games are the same
MDJ2010 @ Dec 6th 2008 4:35AM
He didnt say that the game developers would adjust it, he said that people will adjust to it when playing.

Played a bit on a friend's console today and it was fun, but going for the headshot is still more satisfying in Gears 2..
AoE @ Dec 5th 2008 8:19PM
Shooting is more fun in a shooting game than a survival horror game? crazy talk!
Matthew Falk @ Dec 5th 2008 7:52PM
no viddler? that's sad because gametrailers videos don't work properly in google reader. Hope this isn't a trend.
Richard Mitchell @ Dec 6th 2008 11:25AM
RE5 is an M rated game (I'm guessing), and you can't age gate Viddler videos. Hence, GameTrailers.
Matthew Falk @ Dec 6th 2008 11:46AM
ahh, I see that makes sense. Thanks for the reply

The explosions look awesome, that's for sure.
+++volume+++ @ Dec 5th 2008 8:51PM
Just a thought,
every single game has red barrels that explode.
klaymen @ Dec 6th 2008 4:23AM
sometimes they try to be creative and make the barrels glowing yellow or something.... and then i tell the game "you idiot. its supposed to be red!"
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Dec 5th 2008 9:29PM
Ahem.
Mr. Mitchell.
I have been killing zombies / living dead / infected for most of my adult life. I have learned one VERY important strategy...
AIM FOR THE HEAD MAN!!!
I'm sorry, I'm totally down with your stuff, brah, (Brah is used here just so you know how serious I am) but goooooood lord, pull yourself together.

Yep, I turned my back on the guy with the chainsaw and lost my attention on a hoard behind me and that chainsaw death scared that hell outta me.
It looks like it'll have some issues which take a bit of getting used to but so far soooo good.

I loved RE4 (it's the only RE game I've played).

You have to remember that this is only a small part of the whole game. If you played only certain sections of RE4, you might think the same thing.
