Xbox Live to be down for 'quick' maintenance [update]

Update: Maintenance is finished. Xbox Live is alive. Nothing to see here.

An important Xbox Live message for all the early morning gamers in North America and the midday gamers in Europe.

Today, Friday, December 5th at 5:00AM eastern (2:00AM pacific) Xbox Live and Xbox.com will be down for scheduled maintenance. But don't get worked up into a no gaming tizzy, because the maintenance is only expected to last less than 15 minutes. During the downtime, Xbox Live will not function, all "My Xbox" functionality will be offline, and the Xbox.com forums will be "read only".

We think you're strong enough to handle the 15 minutes of downtime and strongly suggest using that time constructively. We recommend learning the basics of the fine art of needlepoint.

Would you rather pay for a service that does not get maintained? Here's an idea, at 2:00 AM, go to sleep! If you're on the east coast, keep sleeping!

i wasnt looking at the time but i did lose my connection this morning.. granted i didnt try until 7 but everything was back up and running for me by then and im having no (new) problems..

Why is it every time i lose my connection i have to find out there was an outage from major nelson? why not send out a message on XBL? since when did telling ppl using a service 'by using the service' stop being a good idea.

At second comment: Right, that would be nice. I get a message once for about every 5 actual planned outages. Send them out as soon as they know, and bam, we all find out the less harder way.

Last night (9pm EST) I was chronically getting disconnected from Live. I hope that this was (if not the cause) a solution for that problem.

Anyone else get that? Either sitting in the dash or playing Fallout 3, I'd randomly (5-15min intervals) get "Disconnected from Xbox Live" messages.

I have had so many problems lately with some things with the NXE. I hope that this fixes them. My friends list takes about 10 seconds to populate the avatars....and I literally have 8 friends. I keep it to strictly family. (I can never find mature gamers it seems) Also going into menus to read anything like game details or so forth takes at least 30 seconds to load. Plus some games will not do updates when they need too.
I loved car combat games so I was the first to buy Vigilante 8...but my biggest complaint is how few maps there was. So when the DLC came out I downloaded it. But the game did no update and I have the new DLC but I can not preview the cars and it has messed up the sound horribly on my xbox while playing it...and the stunt track does not load right at all. It loads the rings of fire, but all the hills and such are not there. They are invisible, I can run into them, but they are not visible. And I think it is because the game did no update when I bought the DLC. I really hope all the small problems are worked out soon with the NXE because I am a huge fan of the new look.
Also if you are a mature gamer with games such as GOW2 and Left 4 Dead send me a friend request...I need some people who buys new games as much as me. None of my friends have my favorite games. My gamertag is the same as my forums name.
