Retail Rumor: Splinter Cell Conviction in February

By now one should know that retailers' expected release dates for upcoming games that don't have official release dates aren't all that reliable. But after searching the internets and coming across the way long delayed (yet rather anticipated) Splinter Cell Conviction popping up at retailers with a similar February release, well ... we just had to share.
Online retailers including Amazon.com and Gamestop have Splinter Cell Conviction posted with an expected release date of February 2, 2009. Though, the February release doesn't quite gel with Ubisoft's earlier fiscal talk that made it clear Conviction wouldn't be available until April 2009 at the earliest. So, February 2nd doesn't seem all that likely, unless retailers know something we don't. And if that's the case, we're pointing an angry finger at Ubisoft.
[Thanks, Jason]

PLEASE come out in February, Splinter Cell is one of my most favorite series of all time, this would be great!
Mazrael @ Dec 7th 2008 5:28PM
the multiplayer was too bolt-on.. just get the game right so the crowd works better then assassnins creed's later stages.. making sure Sam seems the tough guy that he should be, with out dumb cops shooting him while your up close with other cops or civillians (which happens in Mirrors Edge & Assassins Creed) they should be avoiding collatteral damage..
Stephen @ Dec 7th 2008 6:47PM
this would be nice, but it seems awfully soon since we haven't heard anything about this game in a while. and I really hope they didn't rush it. they said they were going to change it because it was outdated compared to games like assassins creed, so I thought they were going to need more time than this. I have been eargerly anticipating this game for a while, and I don't want quality to be sacrifised for a earlier release date.
That being said, I think that this release date is probably wrong anyway.

They did the same with R6: Vegas 2. It was announced in late November 2007, and came out late March 2008. Chaos Theory was good, but didn't have the same feeling as Pandora Tomorrow had, and Double Agent just plainly sucked.
drunkenshaolin @ Dec 7th 2008 7:16PM
this game has got canned all over it...
can`t see this in feb..
L4MB @ Dec 7th 2008 8:36PM
will it be by the same team that did double agent? i really hope that they are alternating teams and it will be done by the chaos theory team. i loved chaos theory and hated double agent.
Jason Martinez @ Dec 7th 2008 8:54PM
The chaos theory team is making this game.
They started making ConViction 1 yr befor Double Agent was released.
So ConViction is taking them 4 yrs to make.
Thats the biggest years gap in a Splinter Cell sequal.

Not like Ubisoft to give such short notice for something so large-scale
Possible. But only if they unleash a slew of media after the new year
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Dec 7th 2008 10:33PM
meh - the games not on my radar.
offday @ Dec 7th 2008 10:39PM
I had so much fun playing on maps like river mall and aquarium. Make the multiplayer like it use to be pleaasseee. Double Agent's sucked. I hated how you could no longer be a stealthy spy. You had to be aggressive or you lost. That's not how splinter cell multiplayer should be.
Efeez1986 @ Dec 7th 2008 11:38PM
The Splinter Cell series is too inconsistent, plus Double Agent was trash.
Amos @ Dec 8th 2008 12:12AM
I love this series and I hope Conviction comes out soon but not too soon if it means sacrificing quality. Actually, my favorite was Pandora Tomorrow but Chaos Theory was good, too. Better than Double Agent, anyway.
StingerVI @ Dec 8th 2008 3:02AM
I hope they don't try to ripoff MGS4.
Also according to those websites, FFXIII and FFVXIII were supposed to come out in December of 2008.
Oh wait
Yeah I gotta see it to believe it.
MIke @ Dec 8th 2008 3:18AM
LOL, up against Killzone2....
I know which I am picking up, and it's not SpliterCell.
SadisticHam @ Dec 8th 2008 3:50AM
And those of us with jobs will get both.
Dralthi @ Dec 8th 2008 10:09AM
Slow news day, huh?
Tricky Bandit @ Dec 8th 2008 10:59AM
I loved all the old Splinter Cell games, I am a big fan of stealthy games. But I don't really know if this looks that good. I want it to be good. But it seems like they are changing everything that made me like Splinter Cell so much. At least the last time I saw screenshots of it, which has been a year ago or so. I don't like it when my favorite games changes the whole way you play it. I am already let down that RE5 looks like a straight action Shoot 'em up, and not a survival horror game. That being said, of course I will still go out and buy it though....I mean c'mon, it is Resident Evil.
ChomskyKnows @ Dec 8th 2008 1:28PM
this isn't much of a story. Amazon often has false or old release dates for a myriad of games. Gamestop is a bit more reliable, but they probably haven't updated this particular title yet...
GhostDoggy @ Dec 10th 2008 8:33AM
I'd much rather see a new Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six release. Of course, if Splintered Cell had a +4 player CoOp then I'd reconsider.
