Ben Heck's new 360 laptop, the Xbox 360 Portable [update]
We're not really sure what causes Ben Heckendorn's obsession with cramming large electronic devices into smaller electronic devices, but we certainly admire it. Having already created several Xbox 360 laptops, BenHeck has done it again, this time adding several improvements. The Xbox 360 Portable comes with three new features unseen on previous models, which include built in WiFi, Memory Unit slots, and a removable hard drive. The removable hard drive and Memory Unit slots are an especially nice feature, as they allow for easy trasportation and swapping of data. The keyboard is gone (pointless when we have the Chatpad, says Ben), and the extra space has been outfitted with lots of ventilation. You wouldn't want one of these babies to overheat, after all.
Check out a video of the 360 Portable after the break. Head over to BenHeck's official site for a look at how the laptop was built, including lots of pictures.
[Update: The THQ contest is actually over. However, it looks like BenHeck still has yet to reveal the prize laptop itself, which will be identical to the Xbox 360 Portable with additional artwork on the case.]

I guess all the ones before this one got RROD's.
Loban @ Dec 10th 2008 11:16AM
I know you guys all rated this comment low and most likely PS3 BRAT is just a troll (duh), he's a got a little bit of a point. I'm on my 3rd 360 in less than two years. I love my 360 and even I'm getting fed up with the reliability issues. I haven't even had a RRoD yet, my DVD drives keep crapping out. What do you do if you get one of these Heck portables and it dies?
mcwattersm @ Dec 9th 2008 4:07PM
How the hell does he afford to keep making these?
Carbonize @ Dec 9th 2008 4:16PM
People pay him to make them for them.
mcwattersm @ Dec 9th 2008 4:17PM
I know I saw one of these up on eBay, but all proceeds were going to charity.
jarhead906 @ Dec 9th 2008 4:28PM
Very cool, but I think the "Portable" text gives it an instant 'cheesey/fake' look.
Is this the same guy that made the (best version) PS3 laptop? I've seen several of those, this being the first 360 alteration.
Tom @ Dec 9th 2008 4:41PM
Yeh, it was Ben Heck. I think the 360 was first, followed by the Wii, then the PS3 being made as laptops.
joeybeast @ Dec 9th 2008 4:09PM
Does that thing run on battery at all?
Scott P. @ Dec 9th 2008 4:26PM
This looks like old news... The sweepstakes for this thing has ended in October...
Am I wrong on this?
Tom @ Dec 9th 2008 4:43PM
Yeh, too bad about the sweepstakes...that laptop would earn some serious geek cred to own :D

Ben Heck Is God . . .
Jayslacks @ Dec 9th 2008 4:38PM
Man, this thing is seriously cool.
Neil @ Dec 9th 2008 8:52PM
Awesome stuff. Would have been cool if he was able to have a full QWERTY keyboard in too....maybe using the chat pad for the circuits needed.
Deck @ Dec 10th 2008 2:40AM
That is really cool.
Though I am curious as to how much he actually carries it around.

Wow, it just keeps getting better and better

What does Ben Heck do as a day job? How long before one of the big 3 gaming companies snaps him up - can you imagine the kind of console he'd design given an unlimited budget? It wouldn't just look awesome, it would make everything else around it look more awesome as well. The ultimate team player.
Dralthi @ Dec 10th 2008 10:21AM
Agreed. I'm still surprised that none of the big 3 have snatched this guy up. I'd love to see what he could design with an unlimited budget.
I wonder how heavy that 360 Portable is? Maybe he should rename it to the 360 Paper Weight because it looks heavy.
Timerider @ Dec 10th 2008 11:38AM
I wish I could go visit his house. I'm like 30 minutes away.
imbecile pete @ Dec 10th 2008 12:10PM
they should start selling those!
