MS giving the gift of a stable Xbox Live this holiday
After the embarrassing fiasco that was Xbox Live Holiday '07 that resulted in a Undertow apology gift, Microsoft is committed to keeping Xbox Live up and running through the holidays without any problems."We are well prepared for the type of growth we expect this holiday," Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told Kotaku in a recent interview, explaining "we've built a lot of infrastructure, a lot of behind the curtain no one sees." We're also informed that Microsoft will have additional Live staff on the job (probably getting paid double time) who'll be ready to jump in if problems surface. "Knock on wood we will hopefully not have any issues," ... believe us, we're knocking.

the word "paltry" is missing from that first sentence...

Last year's fiasco just about ruined my holiday spirit...I was pissed. And no, Undertow did not make up for it.
The only thing that will make up for it is a smooth XBL transition this year. No more excuses, MS...

"Last year's fiasco just about ruined my holiday spirit...I was pissed."
What the f**k is wrong with people today!? A video game online service almost ruined your entire holiday spirit?
C'mon, either your exaggerating or our society is in need of an overhaul.
It was a bummer for sure but it didn't affect single player game modes what so ever.

Mustn't have a family.

Can they give us a free game anyways?

It's not even stable NOW. I play with a crew of 6 friends every Tuesday night. Ever since the NXE, a few of us keep getting "Disconnected from Xbox Live" messages from time to time, despite nobody's setup having changed since we started playing in December 2005 (neglecting replacement RROD boxes, again none of which had any problem pre-NXE).

the biggest problem that is constantly happening is that big feature of 8 person party chat is that people randomly get disconnected from the party, its not stable, more testing should of been done.

"We are well prepared for the type of growth we expect this holiday,"
Wasn't the problem last year that there were more people signing up on LIVE than they expected? If so, that statement doesn't reassure me.

Take it from an IT guy, no one gets paid overtime. Coupled with the recession, just forget it.
Viridium @ Dec 11th 2008 4:13PM
I get paid OT, but I guess I'm not an IT guy.
Arnie @ Dec 11th 2008 4:22PM
IT as in Information Technology.

The problem last year wasn't that MS didn't prepare for the growth the expected, the problem was the growth was higher than they predicted.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Dec 11th 2008 3:04PM
I really wish they wouldn't put out statements like this.. They'll look really dumb when the shit goes down because they didn't anticipate that many users being on at once. It happened last year and now with prices being even lower, there's no reason for it not to happen again this year. We'll see though.

I got 10:1 that Live has a conniption and blows up Dec 25th. 20:1 its down for atleast two weeks.

Secre @ Dec 11th 2008 4:45PM
It would be nice if I got a fix that let me access Marketplace for Christmas. Maybe sooner.
Efeez1986 @ Dec 11th 2008 8:15PM
How is that a gift when people are paying to play on XBL?
Premo @ Dec 11th 2008 10:47PM
Haha Undertow.
I've had it for a year now and haven't so much as glanced at it.
