360's attach rate grows to 8.1 games per console

Starting the year with an impressive attach rate of 7 games per console, the Xbox 360 has always done extremely well with the software to console ratio. And we just learned that the ratio has gotten even larger with Microsoft revealing that a software attach rate of 8.1 games per console has been achievement thanks to strong first and third party software sales. Third party software sales on the 360 that are still more than the PS3 and Wii combine. How 'bout them apples?

It's no secret, the 360 has the best games!
Brian @ Dec 12th 2008 1:52PM
No joke!
I would like to know what the Wii's game-attach rate is.
Jake @ Dec 12th 2008 2:16PM
So great, that Xbox owners bought 1 game last year LOL...
That explains why publishers are making more from PS3 and Wii right now...
TORO @ Dec 12th 2008 3:08PM
lol that was a funny joke Jake
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Dec 12th 2008 3:52PM
@ Jake - please tell me how you came to that conclusion?
the PS3 versions of multiplat games shift less units compared to the XBOX 360 version almost every time, so how are the devs making more money on the PS3 version??? enlighten me.
Mal F4cti0n @ Dec 12th 2008 8:24PM
Jake, you sir, are an idiot.
Yeah, it means that xbox 360 owners only bought one more game each. How does that make any sense.
Attach rate is number of games sold divided by number of consoles sold. Obviously, dumbass, if the number goes higher than the previous number, and considering all the new consoles sold, over 700K last month alone, that means that either A) new owners are buying more than 9 games in less than a year, or B), and a more likely scenario, early adopters are constantly buying new games. What that means, stupid fuckface moron shit for brains, is that 360 owners like the games offered on the console.
I guess that concept will completely be over the head off a stumpy little dicked moron such as yourself.
I realize that not everyone can be an engineer, but I am pretty damn sure my 12 year old step son can grasp this hugely complicated concept. Now, go kill yourself for the betterment of society, and, whatever you do, do not procreate.
That means have babies, stupid.
Simon @ Dec 13th 2008 9:16AM
Man thats AWESOME.. This time last year, it was like 7. That means Xbox owners have bought 1 GAME last year.
Thats mental man, Microsoft are amazing... Go 360 WOOT, WOOT! Ha Ha
Dan_C @ Dec 12th 2008 12:08PM
That's what happens when you have great games for a console.
Jake @ Dec 12th 2008 2:41PM
I think you typed Xbox360 fanboy, instead of PS3fanboy...
PS3 is chock full of great games, XBox has like Halo3, Gears2 and Fable2. that's it....
(Apart from 2nd rate the Singstar and Buzz copies)
DBoyFlex @ Dec 12th 2008 12:11PM
Now, if you figure in how many people have 2 or three consoles or have gone through that many due to hardware problems, it is even higher! I have two, one sitting in my closet cause it is busted, the other being used cause it works, so that is about 8 games per console, times 2 consoles, that is 16 games all being used on one console. I actually have more than that, but you get the idea, it kinda makes the number even more impressive.
iFester @ Dec 12th 2008 12:17PM
Sounds about right. I have 2 360s (both work atm, one's a DVD player) and 16 games.
NOT ME @ Dec 12th 2008 1:06PM
Im pretty sure not many people have an extra one laying around
DBoyFlex @ Dec 12th 2008 1:11PM
You might be surprised. Plus, some have gone through a few consoles. One breaks, not worth fixing it, buy a new one and chuck the other. I have friends that have done that. And it still goes toward that figure they game, so my point still holds true.
yolarrydabomb @ Dec 12th 2008 7:10PM
why we keep buying the same breakable console because it has great games!
Oshi @ Dec 12th 2008 12:17PM
Huh. I wonder if this includes XBLA games? That would effectively double my game count... So I would hope that's 8.1 discs, heh.
Jcarpio @ Dec 12th 2008 12:36PM
If they counted Digital downloads, i'll be curious what the attachment rate would be. Virtual Console vs XBLA.
spamsphen @ Dec 12th 2008 12:22PM
has been **achieved** thanks to strong first and third party
ChomskyKnows @ Dec 12th 2008 12:29PM
are still more than the PS3 and Wii **combined**
did a foreigner write this?
Clark Parker @ Dec 12th 2008 1:04PM
Wow... That's pretty ignorant Chomsky, You've never made a typo or two in your life? Give the man a break.
Digitalspirit @ Dec 12th 2008 2:11PM
It's hardly ignorant is it "Clark", this is supposed to be a professional website and you can't tell me these people don't get paid to maintain it. The least they could do is learn some grammar and English, it's barely a paragraph and there's two blatant errors in it!
Paul Kemp @ Dec 12th 2008 6:05PM
Hehe, my though exactly! :)
Clark Parker @ Dec 12th 2008 5:21PM
I'm sorry about this... I really am.
But some filler sentences and a spellchecker are not going to fill that void you have festering there, friend.
And yeah, as a matter of fact, assuming that a person is a foreigner or, say, doesn't know "grammar and English" because they whipped off a quick blurb on some minor video game news that happens to have a couple typos in it is pretty ignorant.
But it's ok. If I were ignorant enough to think errors were the same thing as ignorance, I'd probably be a jerk about it too. In fact, if I had a perfect mastery of the grammar and English, I bet the first thing I’d do is rub it in people’s face. That would make me happy.
Kenology18 @ Dec 12th 2008 12:26PM
"Third party software sales on the 360 that are still more than the PS3 and Wii combine."
It's been out a full year longer than either two.
lmalave2 @ Dec 12th 2008 12:39PM
I think they mean the current rate of game sales, not the total number of games that have been sold in the life of the console. The problem is the top games on the Wii are the Wii Fit, Wii Play, and Mario Kart. And PS3 games have always sold less anyway. So basically the 360 completely dominates 3rd party game sales.
This is great because if you're a 3rd party game developer, then the 360 is your top priority console to develop for.
Deezul @ Dec 12th 2008 12:46PM
Yes, the 360 has been out 3 years. But combined, the Wii and PS3 have been out 4 years.
I had maybe 6-7 games on my original Xbox, and I bought that 18 months before the 360 game out. The 360? I have 30 games now, not included downloads and games I've finished and sold. Scary.
mattclarkie @ Dec 12th 2008 2:03PM
I personally owned about 60 360 discs, and then about 10 arcade games.
That means I owned more 360 games than games for all more other consoles put together.
mattclarkie @ Dec 12th 2008 2:05PM
Why am I talking in the past tense. My 360 collection is still growing.
ogvor @ Dec 12th 2008 12:32PM
Remember, they are probably counting all those games they are bundling with the consoles this season. Plus, many Blackfriday deals also came with another free game so that also probably added another 500,000 games.
But it is still very impressive, I myself have 8 games.
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Dec 12th 2008 3:57PM
500,000 compared to the 160,000,000 games sold on XBOX 360, not really much of a bump :)
un4gvn94538 @ Dec 12th 2008 12:44PM
i know a large number of ps3 owners are not buying games that dont support 1080. some are not buying the games at all or buying on the 360
marauder800 @ Dec 12th 2008 1:26PM
Sounds like me. I have 26 games for 2 360 consoles and 1 game for my PS3. Sony can talk specs and blu-ray all they want, but the fact is that 360 is a better gaming machine.
un4gvn94538 @ Dec 12th 2008 1:43PM
eh, they both have thier strengths and weaknesses. i refuse to take a side. as far as blu ray, i never buy dvd's anymore.
NOT ME @ Dec 12th 2008 1:09PM
Having both consoles i rarely find a reason to by a PS3 game...especially the multiplat games... achievements always wins that debate..
gk128 @ Dec 12th 2008 1:12PM
8.1 per console... damn by these numbers I own like 6 consoles. Throw in XBLA stuff, and that probably doubles.
leonus11 @ Dec 12th 2008 1:15PM
although i am a Wiifanboy till the day i die (or till the day i have a change of heart) i have to say that the 360 does have alot more 1st and third party support. heck if you take 1 game that's the releasing for the 360 in a certain month then take 1 from the Wii and PS3 i'd bet any amount of cash that the 360's game will be the better one! as a matter of a fact i don't own a 360 (i own a Wii) but i've been buying MUCH MORE games for the 360 (to play on my friends console) then i have for the Wii. (sigh) brings me pain to know that i rarely buy a game for my favorite console, that it does. =(
myabsolution @ Dec 12th 2008 1:31PM
I have like 50 games, and another 50 arcade titles. So yea I mightve moved the attache ratio up like .001% alone!
Livi70590 @ Dec 12th 2008 2:00PM
And i'm struggling to find more than one.
Mazrael @ Dec 12th 2008 2:41PM
good job you.. don't' have a PS3 then.. I myself, only see one interesting game that may out my money down for the old blu ray player.. Heavy Rain.. which isn't even out yet..
Livi70590 @ Dec 12th 2008 3:09PM
I do actually.
Basically, it comes down to personal preference.
Some prefer to play games on the Xbox, others on the Playstation, and then there's me, with PC as my first choice.
LegendaryRedass @ Dec 12th 2008 2:39PM
The point 1 game must be an EA game! Am I right?
XzaR @ Dec 12th 2008 2:46PM
I got 16 normal games and 9 XBLA titles.
Mazrael @ Dec 12th 2008 2:51PM
On my gamercard it says I have 80 games, 26 are XBLA games ( I still own everyone of them )
Had 3 consoles, first one had a dodgy tray, got that swapped over for a new one. Which lasted 10 months when in repairs, and I bought an Elite in the mean time. I sold the 360 that came back to a friend.
tojfs7931 @ Dec 12th 2008 3:01PM
Well I have about 7 retail purchased games and about 5 or so downloaded games, my two most recent being Banjo & Kazooie and Street Fighter Turbo HD. Tells you something about the quality of 360 games.
f @ Dec 12th 2008 3:14PM
I wonder what the rates are for the Wii, 0.01?
Livi70590 @ Dec 12th 2008 3:22PM
1 - wii play.
Khaled @ Dec 13th 2008 11:38AM
I bet it's something like 1.4
matty @ Dec 12th 2008 4:14PM
it's funny how an article about how many games us 360 owners have brings out all these idiots from the ps3 side that argue it. they're just jealous that we average 8 games per, when they only have 2 or 3 games worth playing let alone buying :)
Khaled @ Dec 13th 2008 11:36AM
Both consoles have great games.
Arnon @ Dec 12th 2008 4:49PM
Xbox 360:
-18 Retail
-10 Arcade
BFBeast666 @ Dec 12th 2008 10:23PM
Well, my console refuses to play nearly every second game I own. I don't know if it's a faulty DVD drive or if my HDD is dying after about two years - all I know is that my warranty is done and I'm not blowing €90 for a zombie box that may or not may last another six months.
These are the moments you wish for the RRoD :-)
