On eBay: Slot loading Xbox 360 mod
We somehow managed to miss this very impressive mod that Engadget found last month. Basically, it removes the tray loading, scratchtastic disc mechanism on an Xbox 360, and replaces it with a svelte, smooth slot loading drive. Given all the hoopla about Xbox 360's scratching discs lately, we wouldn't blame you for the sudden desire to steal this bad boy. But why steal it when you can just buy it from eBay? As of this writing, the bid is sitting at just over $400. Of course, if you'd rather not fork over the cash, you could always try to build one yourself.

Just get a PS3 if you want this feature, or a wii. Just kidding though. But really this doesn't look right, it looks like it will scratch the disc while sliding in. Oh also I have all systems and like them all and I am not a fanboy. Im starting to hate wii now though, what with the no good games and stuff.
ZEBRA NINER @ Dec 15th 2008 6:46PM
Scott, I hijacked your comment.
Where is my fancast?

Which is why I never bought a Wii.

As cool as it is, I think I would buy another console for 400 bucks. Even with potential scratches happening.
WarriorDyke @ Dec 15th 2008 6:26PM
hehe, yea it does look like it would scratch the disc up..but ya gotta admit..pretty cool mod nonetheless....i just noticed where the item location is on ebay...that's 20 mins from me :O
jarhead906 @ Dec 15th 2008 6:34PM
Man that is something wicked. I wish I had that level of innovative-ness.
Now if only my PS3 could do that... oh, wait.
Arnon @ Dec 15th 2008 7:47PM
How about, getting off of this site, as none of your comments are even REMOTELY positive towards the console that it revolves around.
jarhead906 @ Dec 15th 2008 7:57PM

lol arnon, you're one to talk. you've attacked ps3 on the other sites a lot. can't we just play nice?
ryan @ Dec 16th 2008 8:16AM
dude....quit making PS3fanboys look like dicks...
Arnon @ Dec 16th 2008 9:17AM
..That.. was a lil creepy Jarhead.
Tom @ Dec 15th 2008 6:35PM
Or you could, y'know, NOT shake your console when a disc is spinning at 7500RPM in it.
jarhead906 @ Dec 15th 2008 6:37PM
Such a strange concept you've come up with... how does it work exactly? Tell me more.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 15th 2008 6:43PM
I just wish Micro would start selling new models like this now :( I'm getting fed up of the disk tray already.
myabsolution @ Dec 15th 2008 9:08PM
Am I the only one who prefers disc trays to slot loading?
Anticrawl @ Dec 15th 2008 9:56PM
Nope, because when a tray fails you can still get the disc out without voiding the warranty. With a slot drive you are pretty much screwed. Plus sometimes I like to play old mini-dvd movies I have from when I use to own a mini-dvd handycam.
Poddie @ Dec 16th 2008 5:43AM
Hell no! I hate the slot loaders as well.
To behonest, it's one of the main reasons I didn't choose the PS3 as my first Blu-ray player.
I just don't trust them, and I think they encourage fingerprints.
Chris @ Dec 15th 2008 10:20PM
Hmmm no longer seems to be on ebay and last I checked there was like 4 days left
horngreen @ Dec 16th 2008 12:54AM
How many of you actually wasted time from your short lives to watch that slot loading video? Was it worth it?
NotYourAverageSuperHero @ Dec 16th 2008 2:08AM
awesome mod.....but I wouldn't pay retail for a mod that won't sit up right and doesn't have HDMI.
Rudolphe @ Dec 16th 2008 2:49AM
I wonder if MS will release slot loaded 360's along with the Jasper chipset. Or is jasper already out in the world?
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Dec 16th 2008 4:33AM
Jasper is already out in the wild - features 60nm CPU, 60nm GPU, & 256mb internal flash memory usable how you wish (instead of the normal 16mb, usable only by the system for dash updates; excludes avatars).

Heres the reason for withdrawal: "Some idiot, don't know who yet, pulled it because of copyright infringement. The drive is completely stock in that aspect, no flashed FW at all. So either eBay has a complete retard that goes over those things or someone sent them an e-mail crying that it was modified when it's not, so they pulled a perfectly legal auction. I've already e-mailed them back and will have to see where this goes.
My apologies to anyone that bid on the thing and I'm working on getting this resolved or it'll just go back up for auction at a more respectable place that knows what they're doing."
Poddie @ Dec 16th 2008 5:43AM
I tried to sell some rare VHS tapes at one point on eBay. I was trying to sweeten the deal with a DVDR copy of the tape included with it. As far as I know, it's legal to sell a DVD copy WITH the original VHS tape. eBay pulled most of the listings and threatened me with copyright infringement.
I also listed a Sega Saturn console that I had added a switch to for playing Japanese games. They pulled that one too, just because I used the phrase "import games". I try to be honest in my auctions, but always get penalized.
When it comes to these things, they just pull them if they're the least bit suspicious. Not worth their time to investigate and have a lawyer look it over.
The irony is there are 1,000,000,000,000 illegal Hong Kong copies of Disney movies on there. Look up any out of print Disney movie and you will see 98% obviously pirated copies. I have never figured out why eBay doesn't seem to care in the slightest about these.
Deezul @ Dec 16th 2008 6:41AM
Slot loading or tray, how about a console that takes more than one disc at at a time? There are in dash car stereos smaller than the Wii that will hold multiple discs. Wouldn't it be great to have a console that held 3 game discs? I'd say that's usually how many games people have in their normal rotation.
ryan @ Dec 16th 2008 8:25AM
I'd rather have an illegal way to copy 3 game discs to the hard drive and never put them in again.
