NXE audio issues continue to fire up forum users, Microsoft still working on a fix
When the switch was flipped to release the New Xbox Experience (NXE) everyone at X3F HQ was huddled around a candle, hoping that Xbox Live wouldn't ... you know, explode! Thankfully, the NXE was released and the Live service continued to run strong, for the most part. However, not everyone had a rosy experience. Some Xbox users connected throughout HDMI noticed an issue, the NXE would not play audio via an HDMI connection. While this isn't news, users that have been hit with the audio issue have taken to the Xbox.com forum, now threatening to take the issue to the the Better Business Bureau and contact consumer advocacy groups due to Microsoft's refusal to address the problems.
Only, Microsoft did address the NXE/HDMI problem. On December 2, X3F reported that Microsoft admitted the NXE had caused the HDMI audio issue for some users and are currently working on a fix in a story on ShackNews. While they don't get points for speed -- actually, maybe they do ... we don't know how long it takes to fix these things -- Microsoft has admitted the problem and aren't leaving anyone out in the cold. Get it? 'Cuz it's December. Never mind, you seem upset.
[Ed. Note: Story edited to clarify the audio issue has only hit some HDMI users]

Wait, is everyone that uses HDMI having this issue?
If so, that's just pure negligence.
DBoyFlex @ Dec 17th 2008 5:50PM
NO, some. I do not have that problem with HDMI.
L4MB @ Dec 17th 2008 8:46PM
I, on the other hand, do have an issue with HDMI.
thus, it is only some users with issues.
Michael Paul @ Dec 17th 2008 5:09PM
Was it SOME or ALL of the HDMI connections that lost audio? I thought it was just some...
sgt_quackers @ Dec 17th 2008 5:12PM
I use HDMI and have no issues with my sound so i think its just some TVs
oXweebleXo @ Dec 17th 2008 5:40PM
I have no issues either. it is some models of xbox? i have the elite if that makes any difference
LegendaryRedass @ Dec 17th 2008 5:17PM
Yet another reason why the 360 should have a light pipe on the on the back, for those without hdmi receivers.
Mazrael @ Dec 19th 2008 7:27PM
it does have a "light pipe".. its on the audio connector thats used with hdmi, and on the component connector too..
LegendaryRedass @ Dec 19th 2008 11:40PM
I know there is on on the component cable, but for some reason an hdmi won't fit when I try to use both connections. I know you can buy an adaptor with both for 80.00, but it's not worth it. I meant there should be one on the console itself. Sorry, I thought I said that.
gotoman00 @ Dec 17th 2008 5:20PM
ya this is pretty much bullshit... i'm not even using hdmi i'm using component video and optical audio and my dashboard sound no longer work with the NXE, only in-game sound... can't play music during games either :(
Rick @ Dec 17th 2008 5:20PM
I use optical now but I have a new receiver coming in the mail next monday. I hope i'm not affected when i hook up the HDMI. That's a pretty big problem to not have seen it before NXE released.
Xav de Matos @ Dec 17th 2008 5:22PM
While the links within the story were added to clear confusion, I edited the story to make sure people realize the NXE/HDMI problem isn't widespread.

Good deal.. Too bad everyone will be up in arms over this like the disc scratching thing. It will only be a matter of time before some kid wants to sue MS
lasersanchez @ Dec 17th 2008 5:33PM
NXE and HDMI work for me. That sucks it's not working for everyone though.
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Dec 17th 2008 5:39PM
NXE + Component/HDMI work fine for me.
Mazrael @ Dec 17th 2008 5:47PM
Elite Zephyr to 26" Samsung R74 with HDMI 1.2 cable (1.2 or 1.3, can't remember, but it cost as much as a game).. sound and picture is spot on

Count me in as one more with this issue. I'm more frustrated at this point by the fact that Microsoft has done nothing to let us know when or IF this issue will be fixed. And at what point it will be if at any point it IS fixed. If you'd like to join in on an executive carpet bomb to help get attention to this problem, I highly recommend sending a message to these addresses to inform them of your frustration. robbieb@microsoft.com, donm@microsoft.com, jabell@microsoft.com, khogan@microsoft.com, billg@microsoft.com

Both of those answers are actually in this post, which is the point of this post.
If is yes.
When is soon.
I didn't say you'd like the answers. :)

I like how when you startup NXE it throws you to the advertisements first instead of My Xbox tab... Little confused there M$?
I'm using HDMI and am doing okay... But thats pretty BS on their part.... Scratched discs, RRoD, LOUD ASS DVD DRIVES, and now HDMI fun... C'mon xbox... for an awesome product, its pretty damn shitty...
Bill @ Dec 19th 2008 7:41AM
I have had the HDMI no sound issue since day one of the NXE install. I have he Halo3 SE Xbox 360. I think it's inaccurate to say that it is the tv's that are causing problems since my ps3 and upconverting dvd player all work flawlessly on any of the 3 HDMI ports on the tv. And so did the 360 prior to the NXE install. It's obviously an NXE issue. To get by for now I have gone back to using the component cables, but still want the fix so I can go back to HDMI.
Jared Mackenzie @ Dec 19th 2008 9:16AM
I do not suffer the audio problems either. Although I'm using HDMI direct and not through that adaptor thingy for audio & hdmi.
Vern @ Dec 19th 2008 2:36PM
I use HDMI to dvi for video and optical out to an amp have had no problems!
mini vanilli @ Dec 19th 2008 4:32PM
this is horrible!!! i cant even use HDMI on my new 1080P toshiba LCD TV, i have to use component. if i knew this would be an issue i would have bought a PS3. microsoft is running out of time on this. whats so difficult about creating a manual setting in the audio preferences to work with the alternative HDMI protocol that some TVs need to have audio? anybody interested in starting a class action suite? im thinking about it seriously.

Yeap.. I'm affected by this!
Benq GW2400 Monitor. No sound on HDMI; Component Cables work; have yet to try out the optical way, but I've heard that works too.
The hard drive reset fix doesn't work in my case. Its a deafening NO SOUND ON HDMI for me.
Any updates on the ETA for the MS fix?
