Sega announces Outrun Arcade Online for early 2009
Sega has officially announced that it is bringing Outrun Arcade Online to Xbox Live Arcade. The game is being developed by Sumo Digital, the team responsible for the recent Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (on which Outrun Arcade Online appears to be based). It will be enhanced to include high definition graphics and will feature online play for up to six players. Outrun Arcade Online includes 10 different Ferrari cars and 15 different tracks on which to race them. And, of course, it wouldn't be Outrun without the music ... and the hot girl in the passenger seat. The game is expected to drop in early 2009. Check out the first screens in the gallery below and the debut trailer after the break.

Star ocean 4 looks better, but SO4 is realtime.

This game got me thinking.... we really dont have any arcade-style racers on XBLA...
How cool would it to have a Crusin' USA style game?
Im all for this and I'll probably buy it when the time comes :)
Tony @ Dec 18th 2008 1:43PM
Yeah, good question.
I still don't get why not one company has made a Mario Kart clone for XBLA either.
AoE @ Dec 18th 2008 4:29PM
not quite the same thing as a mario kart clone, but in the same league to be sure:

Yeah, I didn't really like the game's heavier focus on non-race games and how short the actual race tracks are. I'm hoping Things on Wheels is more like it.

Game looks pretty fun and perfect as an arcade racer.
Without question, the Xbox 360 has over delivered on all gaming expectations I could ever wish for except for a few Nintendo brand games.
This is without a doubt the 2005 version of the PS1.

Never played it, but it looks badass...
kentawilson @ Dec 18th 2008 3:56PM
Just did a check and Outrun 2006 is backwards compatible. I've always wanted to play it but never got around to it so I think I'll go and find it on the cheap once my console comes back or just go buy an original Xbox and play it.
AoE @ Dec 18th 2008 4:34PM
Wow this just made my week! OMG I can't wait! It seems like a lot of you missed OutRun2/OutRun Coast2Coast? If so... just be aware you are in for greatness. This is the sort of game that used to come out of epic, awesome sega... not sega/sammy holdings circa 2008.
abisairomero @ Dec 18th 2008 6:51PM
awesome
this will bring back memories form classics consoles
(tears)
EdgeOne @ Dec 18th 2008 7:36PM
Dear SEGA,
Please include, or sell separately, the original Outrun and Outrun 2 from the arcades on XBLM. They are still fun to play!
And Afterburner
And Space Harrier
And Zaxxon!
And how about HydroThunder too.
Thanks.
PS are you allergic to money?
tifosiotaku @ Dec 18th 2008 8:17PM
Hydro Thunder is Midway. Replace that with Daytona USA and your list is more convincing.
EdgeOne @ Dec 19th 2008 11:14AM
Opps, my bad. I knew that but was thinking Sega-Dreamcast-favorite games.
n26x @ Jan 19th 2009 8:25AM
