Rumor: New studio working on Crackdown sequel

Juicy rumor news coming from Edge Online is that a sequel to Realtime Worlds' superhuman destructo'fest Crackdown is in development, but not by Realtime. They're busy with All Points Bulletin.
As rumor goes, Crackdown 2 is supposedly in development by the newly formed (and unofficially announced) Ruffian Games, a team comprised of a few "key" ex-Realtime Worlds employees. As is the norm, Microsoft isn't saying a darn thing. Though, if true, we hope Crackdown 2's release gets us access to the Halo 4 beta.

Or the Halo Wars beta.
Dadidito @ Dec 19th 2008 4:45PM
I said it before and Ill say it still. Crackdown was more than good enough to sell without a Halo Beta. One of my favorite games on 360 still. This news makes me happy. Hope they don't change the feel of the game though. I personally don't need for it to be more real or darker.
dunnypop @ Dec 19th 2008 4:54PM
Crackdown is fun.... period.
makus @ Dec 19th 2008 5:02PM
Thank you! One of the most under-appreciated games to date...
Donald @ Dec 19th 2008 8:53PM
I don't think this game was that much of a under-appreciated game. I played it a bunch and I think the fact you can play the single player co-op online made it go from great to amazing. I was sad to hear that they were not working on a sequel after Crackdown. This news makes my game controller rumble with excitement....oh wait, I am getting shot! CRAP! I knew i shouldn't of been surfing the net while playing Call of Duty! *boom* ILL GET YOU F#&@ERS! *bang* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...
DjDATZ @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:23AM
Agreed. Crackdown was an awesome game irrespective of the bonus Halo 3 invite. Maybe if people played it instead of just getting it for the Halo 3 beta, they could have seen that too...
CABALLOTE @ Dec 19th 2008 4:48PM
Enjoyed Crackdown 1...why not. Bring on the exclusives.
Katana @ Dec 19th 2008 4:51PM
This fills with hope and fear at the same time.
Hope cause I loved me some Crackdown.
Fear because a franchise changing studios usually don't work out so well.

just bought it for $10 used, but would have glady layed down the $60 when it released if i had a 360 back then.
John @ Dec 19th 2008 4:58PM
Not just one of the best games for the 360, but one of the best games ever. Fuly deserving of a sequel.
Vcize @ Dec 19th 2008 6:36PM
^^ This.

absofuckinglutely!
warlock7 @ Dec 19th 2008 5:03PM
But, how's it going to sell without the Halo3 beta to drive sales?
When they added in the purchase points to the game was when I said no more Crackdown.
warlock7 @ Dec 19th 2008 5:05PM
mod me down...
You guys are all on crack...
Donald @ Dec 19th 2008 8:55PM
way ahead of you

I'm hoping this is true, and I'm also glad that people see how great Crackdown was. I just beat it for the 2nd time the other day. I had stopped playing it, but I'd forgotten how fun it was. Easily one of the best XBox 360 games, but unfortunately, it got a horrible reputation because everybody thought "Oh, it's selling because of the Halo 3 Beta", which is entirely false. I bought it from playing the demo since that was just ridiculously fun, I got in the Beta through friends & family anyway.
I do find it funny that the game cases still say "Comes with access to the Halo 3 Beta!" as if that's still a selling point, lol.
ChromaTick @ Dec 19th 2008 5:12PM
Please let this be true.
Rick @ Dec 19th 2008 5:42PM
I'd love to see Crackdown 2, so long as it improves on an already solid foundation. I really enjoyed the first one (didn't even buy it for the Halo beta...I hate Halo and don't play it).
SadisticHam @ Dec 19th 2008 5:49PM
God please don't screw it up if true. Crackdown was the greatest sandbox game this gen IMO
ZEBRA NINER @ Dec 19th 2008 6:08PM
Awesome. I had so much fun in this game! Four player co-op would be awesome.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Dec 19th 2008 6:36PM
Here's my idea for Crackdown 2: It's the Agents from the first game versus the the guy from (PS3 game) Infamous. Think about it, at the start of the game you pick who you want to control the superhuman strength and firepower of the agent or the superpowers of the Infamous guy. It would be awesome!!
ice~ @ Dec 19th 2008 7:36PM
Good! The ending of crackdown 1 led us to believe there would be an inevitable sequel... It has great potential, imagine online versus, racing, new powers...maybe a biomchanical agency suit (if youre still working for the agency) Oh my god crackdown was great, me and my friend would just bullshit all the time, we would take that giant golden globe and play soccer with it :D Driving around was great....My favorite game of all time, 9 months, for 9 fucking months i played that game after beating it and I've never had more fun with a controller in my hand my whole life!
paul @ Dec 19th 2008 8:17PM
that just makes my day. i hope it actually happens. i love crackdown! i've wanted a sequel for a long long time
Merehorseplay @ Dec 19th 2008 8:38PM
One of the best sand box games that nobody ever heard of next to Just Cause.. I wonder what happened to Avalanche Studios and Just Cause 2?
Jon @ Dec 19th 2008 11:26PM
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about... this rumor better be true. I wanna see this game in 2 years (I'm just being "real", I would hope they don't rush it and risk a cruddy sequel)
Mike @ Dec 20th 2008 2:47AM
funny post at the end. lolololol
Randy @ Dec 20th 2008 11:10AM

I very much anticipate any sequel to this engaging work. I completely blew off all my responsibilities except eating for hours of bouncing around Pacific City in search of those glowing orbs. It's like Mario on steroids.
