Holiday Deal of the Week: Halo: Combat Evolved

Continuing the ho, ho holiday tradition of discounting a piece of Xbox Live Marketplace content every seven days, Major Nelson just informed us that Halo: Combat Evolved is this week's Holiday Deal of the Week!
Starting tomorrow, the Halo: Combat Evolved Xbox Originals title will be 50% off and only cost you 600 Microsoft points. Usually we'd put up a fuss about Xbox Originals, their lack of achievements and overpriced nature, but 600 points for a gaming classic? We just don't have the heart to fuss about that. Enjoy teh dizcounted Haloz.

Sold.
Jayslacks @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:12PM
I completely agree. Too bad I'm at my mom's house and my xbox is 300 miles away. Lames.
Xav de Matos @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:39PM
Remember you can buy it on Xbox.com and download it when you get home.
yolarrydabomb @ Dec 23rd 2008 12:24AM
and if your xbox is on. (or tell someone to turn it on) you wouldn't have to wait for it.
imbecile pete @ Dec 23rd 2008 8:28AM
but...when i try to download it still costs 1200
whats up with that?
iFester @ Dec 23rd 2008 11:41AM
Xav is unfortunately wrong on this one. Major Nelson said you can only get the special price by downloading it directly from your Xbox as Marketplace on the web doesn't recognize you as being a Gold member.
Hardeho @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:06PM
If you're one of the 3 Xbox gamers who enjoy FPS games and haven't played Halo, and are too lazy to go get the the physical product for the same price, then this would be an awesome deal for you!
OptimumEDGE @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:43PM
Haha, that cracked me up. Although you do get an added benefit with the download version, you don't have to insert the game disc when you want to play it.
Plus it's sure to load quicker off the HDD (since you can't copy original xbox games to the HDD anyways).
Aero @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:07PM
And once again the deal of the week is for something I already own.
Cheers Microsoft!
Mazrael @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:15PM
same here.. :\
refinedsugar @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:13PM
Is it just me or did Indigo Prophecy disappear?
Jcarpio @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:21PM
huh.. i see it on the web version on marketplace at least.
James @ Dec 23rd 2008 5:05PM
It's still there. For me at least.
Deezul @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:24PM
I own the physical disk, but I lent it to a friend who only has the original Xbox. Merry Christmas! I'll just pick up the original, and he can have the disk version...
ThaFFDeuce @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:00PM
This just seals the deal.
ThaFFDeuce @ Dec 22nd 2008 9:51PM
That just seals the deal.
Tegolin @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:22PM
Yes.
NukeAssault @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:49PM
Damn, if only i had points! Curse you SSF2THDR!
NukeAssault @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:50PM
I knew i should of bought that 4,000 point card... =(
DaxterKing @ Dec 22nd 2008 10:53PM
Gonna pick this up, never got to play it.
yolarrydabomb @ Dec 23rd 2008 12:26AM
I would get it but
20gb hard drive (out of space)
Limted Internet
Wish theirs a achevements.
I got the points but not the space and internet.
NuFsAiD @ Dec 23rd 2008 9:30AM
Was facing the same issue then saw and xbox elite on dell.com w/ promo code for $289.99 had to get it, and love the 120GB of space for this kind of thing!
UNSCleric @ Dec 23rd 2008 2:05AM
I would buy it for convenience, but I am very nostalgic and particular and traditional and weird when it comes to Halo, and would rather just keep playing on my original Halo disc, it's one of my most prized possessions.
CaramelZappa @ Dec 23rd 2008 4:21AM
I was already thinking about getting this. I have friends I can borrow the original disc from anytime, but it's so convenient to have games on your hard drive, I think I'll pick this up after xmas.
Phizzy @ Dec 23rd 2008 6:08AM
If you've never played it before, you will definitely not like it now. Xbox owners liked it because it was the only decent thing available, and now you guys think it's great for nostalgia. It really doesn't stand up as a good game for new players. You go through one hallway about a thousand times, and it's not even any fun. Halo 2's alright, though.
EdgeOne @ Dec 23rd 2008 7:07AM
I disagree. Anyone who likes the Halo franchise never played the first game is missing out. I enjoyed it more than Halo 2.
They used hallways as loading gateways to the next area and sometimes its easy to get turned around, but it is still one of best all-around gaming experiences I've ever had.
Bungie wasn't able to reproduced the magic of the first Halo in either sequel IMO. At this discounted price I say take a chance - I bet many more people will enjoy it than regret buying it.
Flood tip: Assault Riffle for Spores and Shotgun for everything else.
Hunter tip: shot 'em in their soft mid section (easy to hit from behind).
I'm in the mood to go play it again!
Phizzy @ Dec 23rd 2008 7:17AM
Yeah, you're speaking out of pure nostalgia, anyone who's used to good games will hate it. Same goes for things like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, they're practically unplayable, but when they were new, people never played console games like them, so they're apparently classics now.
Chimpboy @ Dec 23rd 2008 9:59AM
I'm gonna sound like a complete noob, but does Halo:Combat Evolved have multiplayer over live?
I shall now sit back and wait for the torrents of abuse.....
OrionnoirO @ Dec 23rd 2008 11:55AM
No, it doesnt. The PC version (What I started with) does however. But on the console, Halo 2 was the first with multiplayer on Live. Great price though and still way worth it to experience the first if you havent, I dont even feel bad that I paid the full 1200 for it already, too good of a game to care :)
amart @ Dec 23rd 2008 12:00PM
lol, its a valid question, don't worry. And no, unfortunately it doesn't. It seems rather lazy of MS to not add in achievements or online play to games like these. The official reason why is that, they intended to preserve the original experience, but I mean come on, if everyone's already played it, why not add in achievements or new features? This would make it a MUST HAVE for every Halo fan. In any case, ill be picking it up tomorrow, just to be able to enjoy some split-screen action.
OrionnoirO @ Dec 23rd 2008 12:03PM
Actually, the must have will be when they release a trilogy pack with all three, with special extras on each (Multiplayer on 1, Achievs on 1 and 2, enhanced graphics, all the Halo 3 maps included, etc.)
I still want the Halo 1/2 pack with the Halo 2 Mappack but cant ever find it :\
James @ Dec 23rd 2008 5:05PM
@OrionnoirO
Why though? The Halo 2 map pack is free, and has been for years. You'd be better off grabbing seperate copies of each and downloading the packs.
imbecile pete @ Dec 23rd 2008 8:18AM
always wanted this! but tought it was too expensive. definetly geting this!....now if only it didnt have such a huge filesize.. :/
Doll @ Dec 23rd 2008 8:46AM
What Halo fanboy doesn't already have it?
Bobluling @ Dec 23rd 2008 8:55AM
Uh, me?
Doll @ Dec 23rd 2008 9:27AM
You're not a fanboy.
craig64 @ Dec 23rd 2008 9:57AM
If I didn't only have 2GB of space left I'd totally pick this up! I have it on disc anyways... but for some reason I would just love to download this. Maybe I'll try clearing up some space... but I know what's taking up the most is Shivering Isles...
