Rumor: Microsoft's CES keynote to be a yawnfest

Later this week, Microsoft's Steve Ballmer will be taking the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) stage, filling Bill Gate's shoes to deliver the expo's keynote. Years past, we'd get excited at the possibility that Microsoft would reveal some juicy Xbox 360 news. But if TechCrunch is to be believed, this year's CES keynote will be yawn inducing.
According to TechCrunch and their new embargo breaking attitude, Microsoft has briefed them and other media outlets on their (lackluster) CES announcements, including the Xbox 360 news. Supposedly, Ballmer and crew's only Xbox news will be a reminder that Halo Wars and Halo: ODST will be releasing in 2009. That's it. So, if this turns out to be fact, we recommend looking forward to March's Games Developers Conference for a dose exciting Xbox news, because CES will be dull, dull, dull.

Well I am not surprised considering its called Consumer "Electronics" Show. However, Microsoft will be concentrating on Windows 7 which looks rather promising. Their whole CES push might be about Windows 7.

Windows 7 will be better than vista unless microsoft is the most moronic company in the world. still for those disgusted with vista ,like me, i already sold my pc's and got a mac and i couldnt be happier. no viruses, no crashing, all the software included i could ask for.
readmore @ Jan 5th 2009 10:29AM
I have Vista and have not had a single problem. In fact I haven't had the need to format my PC since I purchased it when it came out.
My MAC on the other hand has been in the shop 3 times and crashes for no reason and gives no reasons. At least if a program crashes in Windows it gives a reason and you can look it up and fix it. With Mac you have to take it in to the repair shop and listen to the arrogant-ass Apple zombies.
Both Vista and Mac OS have their pros and cons. Saying one is better then the other is lame. I prefer Vista since I enjoy a deep OS. Mac OS is too light and fluffy for my taste.
Looking forward to seeing what Windows 7 is all about.

Yeah, honestly, I'm starting to wonder how many people who complain about Vista have used it in the past year. MS fucked up, but it's gotten better and honestly most people seem to bitch about things in the OS that they've heard second hand.
Mazrael @ Jan 5th 2009 2:46PM
Vista has been spot on for me.. windowe explorer is my only ocassion trouble, where it stops responding, usually it's because I'm clicking the E as soon as it appears...

How about some IPTV news?? Whatever happened to integrating IPTV into the 360? They announced it almost 2 years ago, and ATT U-verse and Verizon FIOS, is starting to gain a pretty good foothold nationwide, and both IPTV services were rated ahead of cable/satelite options in the latest Consumer Reports... MS, I want my IPTV.

No Blu-ray drive attachment?
;)
myabsolution @ Jan 5th 2009 10:25AM
somehow i doubt that will ever happen.
Microsoft has been adamant about never supporting Sony, they will probably just push digital downloads so blu-ray might fail.
not that that is what I WANT, because I also want a blu-ray add-on player. Hell I'd stack it right on top of mah HD DVD drive :P
robotoid @ Jan 5th 2009 11:26AM
I wish :( for some reason I also think that'll never happen :(
Nathan-DTS @ Jan 5th 2009 12:29PM
1. It won't happen. Microsoft and the companies that hold shares in the blu-ray corporation can't come to an agreement.
2. Digital downloads will fail until consoles get larger Hard drives which doesn't look likely to happen soon or at all (It would cost far to much for a company like Microsoft or SONY to produce a 250GB Hard drive, standard with a console purchase).
Deck @ Jan 5th 2009 11:26AM
Not really surprising I think. I mean, CES never really has been a "gaming" conference and just has become so in a couple ways due to them trying to push them into every conference they can.
Even GDC isn't "HUGE" per say, since it really is mainly for developers. Or supposed to be anyway. Though I would assume that we will see more information there.
Mr Khan @ Jan 5th 2009 12:39PM
It was really Sony in 2007 that started making GDC into a big news deal, which they continued in 2008
NeoK-182 @ Jan 5th 2009 11:47AM
no xbox news totally makes sense. just like the year before vista came out it was ALL about vista with maybe 5 minutes on the xbox.
This year will be the same. since windows 7 might be coming out in fall of this year they're going to show off a lot of stuff. Probably show off more of surface since thats finally being shipped out to places and probably go into games for windows live a bit since that will play a major roll in Windows 7.
No real reason to talk about the xbox because theres nothing super big in the world for the next couple months so just wait for the GDC or E3.
ryan @ Jan 5th 2009 12:41PM
And for E3 and GDC they had better have something to talk about coming to the 360 other than 2 Halo titles, Alan Wake and Splinter Cell 5 (the latter 2 going to PC as well).
Next year doesn't seem to be so hot as far as 360 exclusives go, doesn't mean I won't continue to chose 360 for multiplayer games tho.
ryan @ Jan 5th 2009 12:42PM
*multi-platform games. -_-
NeoK-182 @ Jan 5th 2009 1:02PM
yea at E3 and GDC i expect a lot more xbox talk. but still a lot about Games For Windows and Windows 7 which MS will be pushing on PC gamers like crazy over the next year.
brian @ Jan 5th 2009 12:40PM
You don't think MSFT can afford two seperate teams to work on W7 and 360 dev't?
Thats just plain ridiculous. Their engineers for the two probably aren't even in the same complex.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jan 5th 2009 1:44PM
Meh, there really isn't anything major to add right now.
Nick @ Jan 5th 2009 10:29PM
I read about this 2 days ago. Get some real content. You guys aren't worth the read anymore just a bunch of borrowed articles.
