CES 09: MS wants to raise Live's 100 friend limit
While not quite an official confirmation that we'll see an increase to Xbox Live's current 100 friend limit, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg did come close to admitting that a friend limit increase is in the works.Talking at CES, Greenberg told Joystiq that "I can't commit to when that will happen, but that is something we want to do. It's definitely something we're looking at expanding and, as this social network grows, we've absolutely heard the pleas for that. It's on the list."
We can haz friends list increase soon? Maybe. Until then, we'll have to continue to reject friends requests with a frowny face :(

They've been putting it off cause it won't be compatible with Xbox 1 games like Halo 2 that have built-in friends lists that were only coded for 100 friends.

They need to add a list option for viewing friends in NXE. Then raise the cap.
What do I care though, I have 10 friends, but I don't accept unknowns.

You can view your friends in a list... it's in the Guide.
beckerist @ Jan 11th 2009 4:18PM
not while you're in an original xbox game

BobTheElephant @ Jan 10th 2009 2:03PM
Heh, I've wished it was more than 100 since old xbox live...hopefully this goes through all right.

About time. The cap has been at 100 since 2002. I hate having to delete old and new friends because I have to make space. I hope they raise the cap to like 300 or even be able to have unlimited space. But unlimited is asking too much already...

Oh admit it, we all enjoy rejecting friends.

If they add more friends then they need to add some kind of way to organise or group your friends
imbecile pete @ Jan 10th 2009 3:07PM
but...why? most people dont have 100 friends
myabsolution @ Jan 10th 2009 3:50PM
Ive only ever reached 65... and when it gets that high I trim the fat off my list, so to speak.
Perhaps one day I shall actually reach the limit.

I'd really like to know how someone manages to play and keep in touch with 100 people on Live on a regular basis, I can barely keep in touch with 20.
xenocidic @ Jan 12th 2009 8:21AM
well, most of us play several different games so we have various pockets of friends... i.e. here's an example of the breakdown of my FL
1. Real life friends/family (yes I have some) : 15-20
2. Shadowrun friends: 10
3. Texas Hold'em friends: 10
4. EndWar friends: 15
5. Viva Pinata friends: 10
6. People who sent me a friend request because I'm an Xbox Ambassador and I'm supposed to accept them: 10
7. etc...

I have around 66 friends and I always have someone to play with. There is rarely a time that no one of my friends are online. If you have over 100 friends than there is no way you play with all of them, a lot. So is this necessary? Maybe work on something with some depth to the Xbox experience?
MadamTampini @ Jan 10th 2009 4:45PM
I'm fine the way it is, but it wouldn't affect me if this happened or if it didn't. I only have ~25 friends and most of which I hardly play with (if at all) in the first place. I only have like 3 or 4 people I play with on a daily basis.
I'm pretty meh about a friends list upgrade.
eduardo @ Jan 10th 2009 6:11PM
i hope this happens. we should have the option to add unlimited friends just like in msn. i hate deleting a friend in order to add some guy.
hyghwayman @ Jan 11th 2009 6:58AM
On the xbox(1) I had 100 friends on my friends list then maybe 50+ more on my clan list. I never had to delete a friend back then, so I would like to see this happen. As it stands now my list is at 98/100 at any given time.

I have about 40 people on my friends list, and I don't have any people I don't know in real life. Not a problem for me.
Mazrael @ Jan 12th 2009 1:31PM
..repeatedly try to add me... :|
Boff @ Jan 13th 2009 8:27AM
Some of us haven't even filled the friends list yet. Sniff...
