Rock the Star Ocean slightly early
Late last week Square Enix announced they were doing something the industry very rarely sees, release a title early. The Square Enix published, triAce developed Star Ocean: The Last Hope was originally set to hit shelves during the first week of March but now will arrive in North America on February 24th. Currently, Star Ocean is set to release in Japan on February 19th and on April 24 in Europe. We're so accustomed to waiting for Japanese role-playing game releases that we won't know what to do when Star Ocean lands in stores earlier than expected. Our whole world has been turned upside down!

Hopefully this will be the first decent (coded as if they knew what they were doing) RPG Square Enix releases on the 360?
Haohmaru @ Jan 12th 2009 2:44PM
I hear you. I picked up the Last Remnant the other day and was appalled at the slowdown and texture popping. Installing the game alleviated the problem somewhat, but a lot of the technical issues remain. I'm even considering returning the game to Amazon.

I just want nice, solid presentation. I don't care what engine is used. Just keep it clean.
carg0 @ Jan 12th 2009 12:00PM
*laughing
wow, what a purposely Americanized cover for such a japanese-centric RPG.
i especially like how the character is completely covered in shadow so we can't see his presumably blue feathered hair, huge eyes, vibrantly colored and buckled "armor" and androgynous looks.
erisandra @ Jan 12th 2009 1:43PM
Wow your comment shows you just how much you know about this game.. which is NOTHING

you wanna repeat that statement again, shit for brains?
ryan @ Jan 12th 2009 2:01PM
They do have that "precious moments" look, but then again this series always had that. If the combat is as good as it looks in vids then I can overlook the cutesy look.
Badass cover btw, regardless of what they intended.
Kia @ Jan 12th 2009 4:51PM
Aside from the fact he has perfectly normal blond hair, only one belt, and isn't really androgynous at all, you might be on to something.
At least you did a fine job of making yourself look like a completely ignorant jackass, though.
carg0 @ Jan 12th 2009 9:52PM
kia, were you born blind and socially retarded or was it simply the result of being dropped one too many times as a baby?
go back to your imaginary world where the stunningly ignorant are of no detriment to the gene pool...or Utah.
Bluemanrule @ Jan 12th 2009 12:06PM
This will be a pre-order and possibly a special edition.
Van @ Jan 12th 2009 12:15PM
Bad move i think... releasing a game the same time as a Halo game is being released!?!?
Alien Lord @ Jan 12th 2009 12:28PM
Van you make a good point, anything with Halo in the title will stomp anything JRPG, which btw JRPGS suck as it is.
ScottishPrik @ Jan 12th 2009 1:38PM
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, because EVERYONE'S going to be rushing to buy Halo Wars.......... That was sarcasm.
erisandra @ Jan 12th 2009 1:44PM
uh you mean Halo Wars? Ahahaah no.
Haohmaru @ Jan 12th 2009 2:47PM
Contrary to what you may believe, not everyone in the world gives two shits about Halo Wars.
danielsdesk @ Feb 17th 2009 10:49AM
better to release at the same time as halo wars than the previous date, which was closer to RE5. As big a deal as Halo is, I'm sure a whole lot more people are going to be picking up RE5.
Michael Paul @ Jan 12th 2009 12:16PM
The Blue Dragon demo sold me on that game, so I hope this demo is as good...
emirabal @ Jan 12th 2009 12:51PM
Or you can get it a week earlier at 7 Eleven, shit, they probably have it now.
Tann @ Jan 12th 2009 12:54PM
why the hell does europe gotta wait so darn long:(
Haohmaru @ Jan 12th 2009 2:50PM
Because all publishers think they have to localize their games for several different languages, including Swedish and Finnish, despite most Swedes and Finns understanding basic English. Presumably.
Shadow-MKII @ Jan 12th 2009 1:37PM
Awesome.... Europe has to wait 2+ Months longer than everywhere else.. YAY..
Guibs @ Jan 12th 2009 3:49PM
Dang it... couldn't they delay that game... I'm still not done with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey and someone gave me Last Remnant for Christmas... There is no way in hell I'll have time to play all those games...
Numion @ Jan 12th 2009 5:04PM
Doesn't anyone else find the protagonists name,
Edge Maverick,
a biiiiiiit funny? Like the Japanese were trying to think of cool American name and went overboard. I, mean, is his middle name 'Danger' or too?
john paul @ Jan 12th 2009 8:46PM
They were listening to the VP Debate when they were choosing a name...
OptimumEDGE @ Jan 12th 2009 5:20PM
I'm assuming by releasing the game early they feel confident that everything should be 100% damn near perfect with the games in terms of technical details. From what I've been hearing of the most recent SE games, they seemed to be plagued with slowdowns and texture issues.
Hopefully technical issues won't be a problem. Other than that, can't wait!
Deck @ Jan 13th 2009 1:51AM
This is great news. I can't wait for this game and will for sure be getting it day one.
Early is nice for a change, as long as it is ready anyway.
