Mysterious dash update released. It's a mystery

A handful of loyal X3F fanboys just sent word (via carrier pigeon, no less) that a new Xbox 360 dashboard update has just been released. The update installs the new dashboard version 2.0.7363.0 (replacing the old 2.0.7357.0 version) and has been slowly releasing across all consoles connected to Xbox Live. Here at Fanboy Towers, we have yet to be prompted to download the new update. We are sad.
So, what new bells and whistles does the new dash update bring? Well ... we aren't really sure and nobody at Microsoft has announced the update's release. Those who have received it haven't been able to find anything new, so we're speculating that it's one of those behind the scenes / no new features dash upgrades. We'll keep you updated on the update once we're updated.
[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

maybe its a haxor.
Fafhrdd @ Jan 16th 2009 9:24AM
I am sure it was no hacker but I wonder if they fixed the glitch to allow people to delete games with GS on them...
Anyone try to delete a game with GS recently?
prence @ Jan 16th 2009 10:26AM
That was the first thing I did as soon as I got the NXE. I deleted stuff I got like 10 gamerpoints in and never played again (I'm looking at you PDZ and Yaris!) Then the next day I tried to do it to another game and couldn't.
*shrugs* Now I'm just not going to play crap games I suppose ;X
shane86 @ Jan 16th 2009 12:09AM
*awaits boring press releases about "security" updates*
DjDATZ @ Jan 16th 2009 12:30AM
It happened to me...and I got booted off Xbox Live for it... Like I was in the middle of playing Fable 2, and my 360 just disconnected from Live, and asked if I wanted to update. I didn't know they could do that... Either way, I had to decline the update, save my game, and then accept the update, because I knew it would, at the very least, reset my game. It actually reset my whole system, meaning it was a system update. lol
bazookadave @ Jan 16th 2009 12:33AM
I know one update. Each sections of the dashboard except my xbox are now condensed. They all have one title box that you click A to access the rest of that section.
Lucky @ Jan 16th 2009 12:36AM
BTW.... I got the update at 6pm when I signed on. I was surprised I hadn't heard about it on here. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know about it.
pete @ Jan 16th 2009 1:18PM
nice, i cant wait to see this, i always thought all those sections were a little too much... but maybe its also getting ready for iptv????(hopefully soonish?)
AlkalineProdigy @ Jan 16th 2009 12:35AM
I did not notice that bazoo
Bazooka Dave @ Jan 16th 2009 12:45AM
Maybe I got it so quickly that they had not updated each section. I haven't checked since 6pm
Jacob L. @ Jan 16th 2009 12:52AM
HDMI, with sound perhaps?
flameofdoom666 @ Jan 16th 2009 1:20AM
That is the first thing I thought of....
Edboy @ Jan 16th 2009 12:53AM
the update? Absolutely nothing, which is what you are about to be.

hopefully it is a fix for that glitch when you get invited to a party or a game and the screen overlaps two in game dashboard menus. I hate when that happens.
Traxx @ Jan 16th 2009 12:57AM
Speaking with Eurogamer, Microsoft director of product management Aaron Greenberg said that they haven't specifically committed to doing just a spring and fall update. Instead, it looks like they'll be delivering smaller updates throughout the year.
For now, the team is focusing on Primetime, which will be ready to go in the spring. After that, Greenberg suggested that "for holiday perhaps, we'll do something big. But exactly how that will work remains to be seen."
myabsolution @ Jan 16th 2009 12:59AM
hopefully it fixes that recurring glitch...
in the party system... someone will randomly drop a person... or 2 or 3... or everyone.
Anyone have that occasionally?
Garrison @ Jan 16th 2009 1:04AM
yes! that happened to me last night and i was thinking they should fix it...
Gun Barrier @ Jan 16th 2009 1:40AM
the update definitely did not fix party dropping. I played today and people still dropped out randomly.
Scott Summers @ Jan 16th 2009 6:40AM
Big time. Happens everytime I use Party.
readmore @ Jan 16th 2009 9:50AM
That was happening the other day during a Left 4 Dead session.. not a good game to have to contently go in the console and re-join a party.
First time it happened though.. I thought it was just someone's crappy connection. Guess not.
ChupacabraHuntr @ Jan 16th 2009 1:16AM
My dad, who used to be a mail career, received a letter via bike career to travel on an aircraft career to visit a carrier fair in hopes of finding a new job.
I didn't realize carrier pigeons had the option of going career.
Tricky Bandit @ Jan 16th 2009 1:18AM
I have heard it mentioned...and I can't remember where at, so don't jump me if I am wrong!! lol. But didnt they recently say that they wanted to increase the size limit for friends? That wouldn't change any appearances. Someone with their friends list maxed out should try adding someone else...see if that had anything to do with the update? lol, I couldnt test it...I only have 3 friends. Only family as my xbox friends. Damn, does that make me pathetic? lol
AoE @ Jan 16th 2009 1:24AM
nah. I only friend people I _actually_ know IRL... it's hard enough for me to remember who the hell is attached to which gamertag... so adding in non IRL friends only horribly complicates matters... and it's not like you need people on your friends list to be able to find an online match.
Tricky Bandit @ Jan 16th 2009 1:31AM
Yeah...thats pretty much it for me. I have a lot of fun playing online with everyone...except the damn 8 year old kids that are just learning how to curse, but can not quite yet use the words appropriately. I accept friend requests from people that I had a lot of fun with, or actually had an intelligent conversation with...but it always turns out that I have them on my list for months and I never play with them again. lol, so as we are incorrectly quoted from down here in Kentucky, I just keep it in the family.
Yeah TB @ Jan 16th 2009 2:48AM
It's all good man. I have like 20 people on my list. I hate having friends who I don't know in real life, as AoE said. I do have I think 4 friends who I've never met, but we all became friends after an awesome couple of matches together in Gears one night.
Hell, I have 8 friends out of the 20ish that haven't signed in since a month after Halo 3 came out.
LegendaryRedass @ Jan 16th 2009 5:34PM
While we're on the subject, what's up with people sending friend requests that you never even heard of or played? If they would at least tell me why, I would reply.
Tricky Bandit @ Jan 16th 2009 11:11PM
That happened to me a while back. I know why, I wanted some "mature" people to play with, you know...not kids, but down to earth people that was fun to play with. So I told people my forum name was my gamertag and to add me. And it worked. I got like 40 requests in 2 days. It was cool, but I had no idea who anyone was, and no one said "hey, I read X3F and saw your post." So I added a few, never played with them, so I deleted them. Thats why I only accept family or real friends now.
No point in never playing with someone and only getting their annoying notifications over and over again while I am playing. lol
nick @ Jan 16th 2009 1:37AM
Got the update when I logged in around 6pm this evening. Not sure if I'm sensing something that's not there, but the xbox button (used while in game) seems to be snappier. Otherwise, I haven't noticed anything different.
Dylan @ Jan 16th 2009 1:57AM
Lets just hope its not an update to detect Ixtreme 1.5
;)
Andrew @ Jan 16th 2009 12:29PM
Actually, I hope it is.
Ghen @ Jan 17th 2009 7:52AM
and I hope it isn't to detect 1.4 ... I doubt they could crack 1.5 when they haven't cracked the version that's been out for a year :P
Deck @ Jan 16th 2009 3:36AM
I just got off playing some COD and Fifa with a buddy of mine and have yet to be prompted for this update.
Though my guess would be that its just a random behind the scenes things with no special features. Sadly, not all their updates have to have fancy new features as much as we may like that.
Aero @ Jan 16th 2009 4:26AM
It's probably just boring fixes otherwise Major Nelson would have posted about it.
RT @ Jan 16th 2009 4:47AM
Tried Updating around 7pm pacific time, and now i cannot get on live. When i try to connect to live it says i need to update, and when i try to update is says i cannot connect on live. Some one please help.
Graeme Q @ Jan 16th 2009 5:06AM
Perhaps it fixes the general clunkyness of the dashboard with all its delays.
That or it perhaps fixed the "installed to HDD but will run of DVD regardless" bug.
Or the chat/party bug...
I wouldn't expect new features as its quite obviously a hot fix.
DJcube @ Jan 16th 2009 5:18AM
I find that party chat stops for me every few minutes for around 30 seconds (normal in-game chat is fine when I'm not in a party). Hopefully this'll fix it (though probably not).
Play @ Jan 16th 2009 5:34AM
My 2 cents : Plug-in a Logitech G25 and see what happens ...
Perhaps they finally added some compatibility with it waiting for Race Pro. :)
Frankie G. @ Jan 16th 2009 5:33AM
Do you guys have an HDMI connection that might be what the update was for. I remember reading how when the NXE launched it was causing problems for certain tv's. Usually the older projection tv's, the problem was u couldn't hear anything.
xboxbuff @ Jan 16th 2009 6:09AM
So it is. I've got it last night. I was downloading fable2 dlc then.

Enzemo @ Jan 16th 2009 7:04AM
Theres a good chance its prepping for the release of Primetime.
Or they could be putting a stop to that mod that allowed people to view all the avatar clothes.
Talus @ Jan 16th 2009 7:29AM
No dashboard update for me in Canada yet.
myabsolution @ Jan 16th 2009 2:53PM
me neither. xav can you verify!!
K @ Jan 16th 2009 7:38AM
I believe it the fix for Xbox live party, sometime playing online it kick you off in a party and when your return back to it, you get no communication with your friends. You gotta restart the 360. Gotta be it.
FR3SH JIV3 @ Jan 16th 2009 7:53AM
Strange. I haven't had an update.
todd @ Jan 16th 2009 8:19AM
Yeah IPTV, not
skin.bintin @ Jan 16th 2009 2:47PM
there are a few issues with the NXE. Being in a party for example, and one person constantly leaves the party, even though they didn't do anything (and on their screen it says everyone else is leaving).
Also, a lot of people I know keep having the whole dash freeze up, like when sending a message from within a game etc etc.
Maybe some of those things are being fixed? That would be nice.
stacy daniels @ Jan 16th 2009 9:08AM
think it fixes the small annoying pauses your dashboard does. not got update yet in uk
Aaron @ Jan 16th 2009 9:17AM
For me, it brought Xbox Live death. I downloaded the update, the console re-booted, and it told me i needed to update. Now it says it can't download the update, and I can't connect to Xbox Live. Support has been absolutely no help. I'm glad I pay 50 bucks a year for this.
RT @ Jan 16th 2009 3:20PM
I am glad i ain't the only one with this problem. Let me know if you find a fix around this.
