Famitsu: Only one Xbox 360 game made Japan's Top 100 in sales
According to a Japan sales chart compiled by Famitsu, only one Xbox 360 game carried enough weight to be named a top seller in 2008, out of 100 titles. Capturing the 82nd slot was Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia, a real-time role-playing game and latest entry from the famed fourteen-year-old franchise, apparently only selling 161,070 units since it released in early August. As expected, Nintendo topped the list with 47 DS titles and 15 Wii titles in the region. One out of 100? We guess that is what you'd call progress. Right? Then again, no. No, it isn't.

This seems more like an article that should be on PS3 fanboy but whatever.
Xav de Matos @ Jan 21st 2009 7:07PM
Why? It has nothing to do with the PS3 at all. Did you even read this?
Rick @ Jan 21st 2009 7:13PM
ToV was my write-in for GoTY here.
It's a 360 exclusive game that went under the radar for most. It deserves some recognition.
I can't see why it wouldn't belong here.
McWilly @ Jan 21st 2009 7:55PM
I just meant it's kinda funny to have such a negative article on a fanboy website that was concocted by the reporter and not by some Sony PR person or other website. Whom you'd think it would've come from first. I have a habit of making bad jokes and rambling on, that's what I do. Just ignore me.
Blackfrican @ Jan 21st 2009 8:17PM
Maybe the should "open their eyes".
PeacefulOutrage @ Jan 21st 2009 9:40PM
@Rick
ToV is an awesome game. I'm enjoying it, and I almost feel guilty I bought it for $30 from some kid who was going to sell it for $20 to Gamestop. It's entertaining, pretty, full of dialogue, and with over 60hrs in, it's another case for why games haven't outgrown DVDs. Plenty of funny skits and dialogue with an interesting story.
Also sports an excellent English voice cast. Up there with Lost Odyssey

McWilly, it would be slightly pathetic if they (X3F) only reported on positive 360 news.
And they'd probably lose whatever little journalistic credibility they might have managed to scrape together...
(Joke!)

"Xbox 360 Fanboy is an exhaustive news source for all things Xbox 360...."

Stupid reply system, that was for McWilly :P
eroc @ Jan 21st 2009 7:21PM
SFIV and RE5 will be on that list next year. That's progress, no?
MarkShark @ Jan 21st 2009 8:38PM
I believe we will indeed see SFIV on the list next time... for PS3. Sad as it is to say.
Fafhrdd @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:06AM
I am a 360 fan boy but you should see both games on that list... sad thing though it will be on the PS3.... Just for the simple fact is the PS3 has a MUCH larger installtion base then the 360......
Minato @ Feb 1st 2009 9:44AM
considering those are multiplatform.. no duh they will be on the list. :P
myabsolution @ Jan 21st 2009 7:33PM
Woohooo we are making headway in Japan.
Go Xbox ! lol
ryuk @ Jan 21st 2009 7:42PM
wow, out of top 100 only one made it......i guess that just proves that america is the only one who likes a bunch of guys on steroids
Huey2k2 @ Jan 22nd 2009 12:17AM
America = the rest of the world outside Japan?
Andres @ Jan 21st 2009 8:23PM
wow... guess that shows japanese people don't care about shooters and stuff... out of the cool games in Xbox 360 like say gears or halo... Tales of Vesperia?
I mean I have a PS3, I would consider myself a PS3 Fanboy, I don't own a 360, my friend does and I have to recognize that even though I believe the PS3 is the best, GoW 2 is an amazing game... I'd choose it over ToV anyday... it's probably my favorite game after MGS4 and Resistance 2.
But ToV!? is Japan crazy!?
MarkShark @ Jan 21st 2009 8:37PM
I don't know what you're talking about man, ToV's my favorite 360 game.
You're right though, Japan's not all crazy on shooters like America is. You might see Star Ocean 4 make the list next year.
Andres @ Jan 21st 2009 8:42PM
I'm not saying ToV is a bad game, hell I enjoyed that game a lot, perhaps not as much as the Final Fantasy series but still it was an amazing game, I'm just saying that IMO GoW 2 is better simply because of all the action.
anyways the thing is that... out of 100 games the only Xbox exclusive one was number 82... and it was a good game but definitely not the best.
Evan @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:12AM
Why should Japanese gamers play a game they have zero interest in, even if the game is good? I bet there are a lot of award-winning movies that you haven't watched, because you're just no interested in them.
Deck @ Jan 21st 2009 8:27PM
Sadly no... that's not too great of progress.
Yema Latify @ Jan 21st 2009 8:41PM
Hmm...seems like Namco Bandai should release ToV on PS3 in Japan. Its a no-brainer.
Ian @ Jan 21st 2009 9:01PM
Agree. Eternal Sonata made its way to PS3, so there is definitely a large possibility of a PS3 release.
PeacefulOutrage @ Jan 21st 2009 9:43PM
I wouldn't mind some Naruto love. I doubt it though, as Ubisoft has the license. I own Rise of a Ninja, but not The Broken Bond. I may get it down the road after SFIV and SO4.
offday @ Jan 21st 2009 10:17PM
What do you expect? Does Japan play anything besides Pokemon and Hello Kitty games?
Bravo6 @ Jan 21st 2009 10:40PM
lol.. sad.. but expected!
Alien Lord @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:39AM
Of course the 360 didn't do well in Japan, the Japanese hate American machines, games, movies, books, etc. They want their brand of shit not western stuff.
Evan @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:00AM
The PS3 isn't doing so hot either, now that it's game lineup has been overrun with American style shooters too.
PrinceAshitaka @ Jan 22nd 2009 10:30AM
Evan, you're absolutely right.
The PS3 isn't doing so hot on Japan. Japan must be tired of American style shooters like PixelJunk Monsters, PixelJunk Eden, Flow, Flower, LBP...
evilm3w @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:51AM
and Tales of Vesperia isn't out in UK or Australia yet...not for another couple months! i'm sure that won't help the total sales figure for this game.
joeF9 @ Jan 22nd 2009 8:57AM
this is because the Japanese dont have a clue what a good game nor good console is.
Psycho @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:40AM
lol thats funny, but Americans know what a good console is. I´m lucky to have a Xbox360Elite and a Playstation3-60GB. And that I don´t live in the USA or in Japan.
One thing we Germans have in common with the japanese people: We´re not stupid enough to buy everything from M$ and most of us are not stupid enough to be fanboys.
Rix @ Jan 22nd 2009 10:39AM
yeah, but didn't your people try and wipe out every race except the germans?
puffin @ Jan 22nd 2009 12:13PM
"wow, out of top 100 only one made it......i guess that just proves that Japan is the only one who likes a bunch of androgynous teens with big swords."
Fixed it for you.

I'm surprised the Xbox 360 hasn't become more popular in Japan since it seems to be the obvious choice for RPGs right now. Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata (I know, it's on the PS3 as well), The Last Remnant, Star Ocean 4, and many more to come I am sure.
