Rockstar officially prices GTAIV DLC 'The Lost and Damned'
Rockstar has confirmed to Eurogamer that the upcoming DLC for Grand Theft Auto IV will be priced for the long-rumored cost of 1600
($19.99 at retail). The Lost and Damned is said to add hours of game play as players take on the role of Johnny Klebitz, member of the Liberty City biker gang The Lost.
The 1600
price-point rumor had been swirling since video game retailer GameStop added a product page for The Lost and Damned on its website. The retail version of the content will not ship on disc, instead it will be made available in the form of a redemption code that will require a connection to Live (Yes, Silver Members too). We've been operating under the assumption that the content would be 1600
for quite some time and comments we've seen don't appear to be too angry at it, considering the amount of content promised. But now that it's official, what do you think about the price to re-enter Liberty City?
The Lost and Damned will become available on February 17, exclusively on the Xbox 360.

I don't think so..... I'm not going to $80. Although this is more worth it than 1200 XBLA games.
Arnie @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:38PM
I dont know tbh. It depends on I guess what kind of games are present around its release. If not many, then I might consider it.If not then maybe later in the year.
Also, I am running out of space on my HDD, I want to jump to 120Gb but it's such a big rip-off(a topic for another day)
I liked the original unlike some folk, so will probably enjoy it.

tbh I was expecting closer to 2400. 1600 is more than reasonable.,..
xenocidic @ Jan 22nd 2009 3:48PM
it'll be even better if MS lets Rockstar juice up another 750 gamerscore like Bungie did with Halo 3
john paul @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:42PM
if They paid millions of dollars for the exclusive content, then gamerscore isn't asking for too much...
DemonJ @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:39PM
No complaints from me. Besides who really wants to wait 3 years before the next GTA? If Rockstar are going to add to an already complete GTA game, why waste all that hard work on a sequel when theres so many different places that can be used in Liberty City?!

JCFG @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:42PM
I bet priced it like that for teh lulz.
Dennis @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:42PM
well shit, that's one way of getting that 50 million back...
Kirk @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:43PM
I'll make due. Fact is with the sheer volume of good games last year, I'm stilll catching up. I'm only a third of the way through GTA IV after having tabled it due to the election, my gf wanting to see me do a play through of Oblivion, then Fallout 3. Twenty bucks for another X number of hours? If GTA and the solid story continue, I see no reason why not.
Game creators should do this more often... and not in the form of a sequel. You go to the trouble of designing a huge gaming world, why not get other stories out of them?
drdre74 @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:44PM
too rich for my blood for the same game. that will make GTV a $80 game after its all said and done.
joeybeast @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:45PM
I'll wait for the reviews and finish Fallout 3 before considering it.
rohan @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:44PM
will ppl review DLC?
joeybeast @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:58PM
For this? they will
bleachedsmiles @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:03PM
Two huge mistakes for MS already.. First, you spend 50mill on dlc then you're going to want to get that content to as many people as possible. Now consider only HALF the 360 install base is actually hooked up online (silver and gold) then you're already limiting yourself in the amount of potential sales. They should release it on disc too.
Second. That price is way too high. We're almost a year from the hype machine that was GTA4 now...and most of the millions that did buy the game are torn in opinion of it. Setting a price that high (as high as the actual game itself these days) is not going to temp or attract those who arent yet convinced. Especially when at the end of the day you're paying $20 for cutscenes. Its still the same city, its the same streets that we already have access to.
This should of been set for 800/1200, and should of come with the movie editor to offer something new to everybody (as lets be honest most people want to play gta for the fun in exploring and less for the story). Or a completely new island... and for 50mill i was expecting nothing less than new land.
sqela @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:11PM
the idea was to sway John Q Gamer who owns both systems to pick the 360 version of gta ;)
amart @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:51PM
too bad you're so poorly informed. Lost and the Damned will add an additional 12-20 hours of campaign game play depending on player skill (from ign).
20 hours is longer than most campaigns that you would pay full price for. Oh and where did you see gta4 for 20... just looking for a source because it sounds like bs.
There are new weapons, vehicles, and the bikes actually handle better!!!
OH not to mention a completely new multiplayer experience.
I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that most of the millions that bought it are torn... how could you possibly know that lol. idiot.
Devin @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:58PM
I agree with sqela. MS (probably) already got their $50 million back just in the sales of luring in gamers who were on the fence on whether to go with PS (the system they probably first associated with the GTA series) which was a great strategy...now it's time for them to cash in on those who told themselves they would buy the DLC if they went w/ 360....
Rick @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:49PM
Maybe i'm spoiled with just about every other game having big add-on packs for 800. One day i will buy this, but for now there are so many better options for my $20
DemonJ @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:17PM
You must understand that they've made the full game. The DLC is adding to an already full version of a game.
What game makers should definiately not do is hold back content just for DLC reasons. Rockstar have not done this.
http://demonjsblog.wordpress.com/
Gemini Ace @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:50PM
Just wait for them to release a new retail disc with all this content included.
RangerPrimeX @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:06PM
About what I expected. Still playing through holiday games right now and want to play the Fallout 3 DLC first but may be ready for this when it comes out in Feb.
paperless @ Jan 22nd 2009 4:16PM
Let's see if it's worth it.
1600 is quite a bit but if the DLC has a reasonable length, why not?
Xav de Matos @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:12PM
That's my feeling. If it's worth it then price won't matter.
prence @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:30PM
Who cares? I sold my copy of GTA4 like 3 months ago :\
Deck @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:32PM
All depends on how much content is actually going to be offered with this new DLC to me.
As long as it is around 10 hours or so of new story.. then I would say that it is very much worth it. If it only ends up being five hours.. which could be their definition of "hours".. I don't think that is enough to justify another $20 toward GTA IV.
If its on the more side though.. I'll probably be getting it shortly after release.
ChocoDK @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:39PM
Well I did really enjoy GTAIV and beat the storymode three times. Once on my PS3 back when it was released. Then when the trophies came out for the PS3 version and then again when I got the 360 CE and beat the story for the achievements.
My only thing that I am worried about is that I hated the bike missions. I hate riding motorcycles in the game and this is about a biker. While I do want it, if I got to ride around on a motorcyle then I don't think I'll pick it up.
Spallit @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:43PM
No sale for me. Those points are reserved for the upcoming Burnout DLC :)
dylan @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:44PM
will there be mini games like goatee trimming, and chrome polishing? No thanks.
Tann @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:49PM
i think i will wait a month, because i still ahve the fallout 3 dlc to look forward to (also i need to FINISH fallout ), i also then need to start playing my copy of fable!
and then i would like to finish gta:)
Squid @ Jan 22nd 2009 2:55PM
It doesn't really matter to Microsoft if the DLC sells well.
The DLC has already served it's purpose, which was to create hype and cause a major shift in sales of the original game towards the Xbox 360 and ultimately console sales.
Heimbachae @ Jan 22nd 2009 3:13PM
everyone, you see what they are doing right? they are upping the antie. why have someone pay 15 dollars for a piece of DLC when we can easily make it 20?? this is a test. and if we all give in be SURE that any new DLC being put out developers will look at this and say 'oh, look, that gta4 20 dollar thing worked, why don't WE do that?' i'll get along just fine with fallout 3 and left 4 dead.
p.s. fallout 3 operation anchorage 800 pts. any fallout 3 players see where i'm going with this?
Clark Parker @ Jan 22nd 2009 3:19PM
All I know is that the number one complaint from these kids is that there just wasn't enough chaos in GTAIV. All they did was moan on about taking friends bowling (despite it being optional) and how it didn't have the same over-the-top crazy antics of the previous games.
Lost and Damned is the cure, my friends. Johnny is a nut job. Hell, Playboy X, in one mission, went on an on about this cat's love for explosions and other bits of the old Ultra Violence. For his part in Niko's story, Johnny was as hardcore and badass as they come. What do you suppose that means for the DLC?
In a word?
Carnage...
Hell, maybe even revenge... Niko DID kill a bunch of his "Brothers" in an early mission. Either way this Expansion is going to bring the pain back... Or ramp it up, if you are not among the moaners.
You add that one simple prospect to the new weapons, new vehicles, new songs and whole new story that just so happens to take place in Liberty City and you have the makings of a title FULLY worth the 60 bucks we paid for the original, let alone the cost of a couple trips to Burger Shot.
But then, that's just my opinion.
token2k6 @ Jan 22nd 2009 3:28PM
$20 is a bit outrageous for only 10 hours of gameplay. $15 would have been much more acceptable. This better be some damn good DLC!!
xenocidic @ Jan 22nd 2009 3:49PM
I guess you don't go to the movies that much... That's $20 for 2 hours of entertainment!
ZeroCorpse @ Jan 26th 2009 3:08PM
Now that's a dumb comparison.
First of all, if I go to a theater I will see matinees, and those cost about $5 for that two hours of entertainment.
Second, who goes to the movies anymore? Stay home and rent! A Netflix subscription for a month costs $15 and includes as many DVDs as you can watch in that 30 days. That's way more than two hours of entertainment.
Finally, we all know this is "exclusive" only for a limited time, after which they'll beat the exclusivity deal by releasing it on disc (instead of DLC) for the PS3 version of GTA IV, and they'll start out charging $20 for it, but then you'll be able to pick it up used for $10 in GameStop six months later.
Meanwhile, those of us on the 360 won't be able to sell our version of Lost and Damned because it's DLC. We'll pay $20 for it, and we're stuck with it forever after.
This could just as easily be a disc-based expansion pack for the 360, and we'd have the option of reselling it once we're done with it.
Fargus @ Jan 22nd 2009 3:55PM
This game was sold back to gamestop over the summer. If the content on the disk sucked, Im pretty sure the downloadable content will be just as bad. They are charging 20 for the DLC to get back some of the money they gave to the review sites to give it perfect ratings. This is my opinion and im sticking to it.
Beardo @ Jan 22nd 2009 5:19PM
I'm a GTA superfan. I've been playing since the 2D versions and it's probably my favorite franchise besides Mario. I will definitely be picking up the DLC and I don't think that $20 is too much if the content is as promised.
However, if the next DLC installment is the same type of thing, with no new areas to explore I will probably skip it.
Ham @ Jan 22nd 2009 5:35PM
People are actually saying this is over priced? What?
Who bought prince of persia last dec? £40 for a repetitive game that's good for one play through. Solid 10-15 hour experiance.
What about Uncharted (ps3 i know but the point remains) £40 for a 10 hour experiance, no replay what so ever.
Do i need to go on? Theres a ton of great, but short games out there with little to no replay. There offering a 10-20 hour expanson pack for £14, you PAY more for that buying retail games.
If anything it's under priced. Just because it's DLC doesn't mean it automatically has to be cheap.
What'll sell this to me is the size of it really, if it can't fit on my 20gig and keep it free enough to fit other things I'll pass..cause the HDD is the real rip off.
PBone @ Jan 22nd 2009 5:48PM
buying a game is wayy different then buying dlc.
20 bucks for dlc is crazy. Whats going to stop them for making that the norm for everything other game that is suppose to have some dlc.
I Stopped buying dlc since halo. Its stupid to make people to buy upgrades to the game.
Just trying to nickel and dime people.
DONT DO IT. DONT BUY THE DLC. make it soo they have to make it free or make it wayy cheap. Kinda like they did with the call of duty map pack. No one got it they drop it down to 4.99.
DvsDevise @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:25PM
"GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned is looking like one of the best deals around. You're essentially getting a full game for just 20 bucks." - IGN
http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/947/947252p2.html
I too can't believe people are complaining about the price. Obviously they dont understand that this is much more massive then regular DLC. It's basically a brand f'ing new GTA game. Wake up people.
Kindergamer @ Jan 22nd 2009 5:51PM
Didn't I pay 2400 for Shivering Isles, right?
DAmoFTW @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:07PM
Ill buy it if Johnny Klebitz is a no-friend loser who dosent have any acquaintences requiring a bowling game or pub visit every day of the week. It may end up being the best way to wreck havok in Liberty City without being annoyed by your mobile phone.
adam @ Jan 22nd 2009 7:15PM
i generally don't like DLC ... i think most of it is useless or added just to bring in a few more dollars (combustible map pack).
That being said, I think Rock* did this right! An already complete game getting a whole lot of new features (including new characters & missions). This is DLC done right at what seems to be a reasonable price...
Will I be able to kill of the remaining pigeons with this character?
Boff @ Jan 23rd 2009 6:15AM
Looking forward to revisiting Liberty City!
Rock* have always delivered the goods imho, so I'm going to give the new DLC a try.
I'll be happy with approx. 10 hours of gameplay (if it's true) for around £15. I've paid full-whack for less gameplay than that.
kyle @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:24PM
It looks like dlc that I'd want to buy, unlike most dlc. Yet, the 1600 pts is a wallet pincher.
