Die Hard 4.0 director wants a Gears film trilogy, 'a harder edged Lord of the Rings'

Wiseman said he hopes to focus the film on science fiction elements and not on the creatures themselves, opting to take the sci-fi action route rather than the horror film route with the series. While not much of a gamer himself, Wiseman said Gears of War first caught his eye when filming the fourth Die Hard film, where a video game was required to play in the background of a key scene. Wiseman said after looking at dozens of games he stopped on Gears of War, which appears in the film on more than one occasion. "I just really connected with it; the design of it the world, the whole thing. So I actually bought an Xbox 360 to start researching what it was," Wiseman said.
The Gears of War movie is still in the early stages of development. Len Wiseman is set to direct and is currently co-writing the script with Chris Morgan (Wanted.)

Only if they make it feel like gears of war. The game is great, but to me every video game that turned into a movie has been mediocre at best, most video game movies are just terrible. I really hope they bring it strong. Making it a smart war movie, that involves lots of cover... And not making Marcus look like a bad as by making him run and gun with out cover. Yeah it would be cool to see, but it wouldn't be true to gears,

I have absolutely no expectations for this film. With the write and director that are attached I'm anticipating nothing but gunfire and a barely half-baked plot, just like every film mentioned in this post. :(

Both squarely aimed at tweens/teens, neither are narrative heavyweights, and both are ultimately disposable.

I'm pretty sure the money for this "movie" would be best spent on fixing the problems with Gears 2 multiplayer. The plot for Gears is cheesy as hell and wouldn't make for a serious movie, it would only attract more 10 year olds to go out and buy the game furthering the deterioration of the Gears 2 online community. I'd imagine a Gears movie being something like the Doom movie, which was a complete flop. Trying to compare LOTR and Gears plots is a joke.

No it hasn't. They tried to patch all the bugs, they didn't fix it in a more broad sense. The balancing for multiplayer is horrible, and lag and wait times are still terrible. Plus they still haven't addressed the need for a server browser, you still get matched with foreigners, and there's still some exploits out there.

The matchmaking in Halo 3 is essentially the same. I've been matched up in that with guys who out-class me and my teammates in every aspect of the game. It happens.
As far as browsing the game types; that's what matchmaking is for. I don't hear the host of Halo players calling for the head of Tyson Green (MP Lead Designer) because you can't browse every single game being played at any given time.
Wait times are near negligible (well under 5 minutes for a match to start), in my case and in many of my friends cases. Lag? Well, once you solve lag and make everybody play at the same speed all over the world, you'll be an extremely rich man. Though, lag switching is an entirely different subject altogether and is an exploit used in nearly every successful multi-player game. It happens in Counter-Strike, it happens in UT, it happens in CoD, and I've seen it all first hand. The bottom line with lag is it is going to happen, no matter how good a developer is. I'm not giving Epic a free pass on the subject, as any game can be improved, but you guys that bitch about every minute detail are absurd. Every game on the planet has bugs and glitches, along with people who use them to their advantage.
Oh, and as for the "foreigners" ... really? I'd love to get into a shotgun battle with Mick Jones!

I'm not asking for a complete resolution to the problems I addressed. I understand the issues of lag, latency, server browsers, and exploits. I certainly don't expect them to "fix lag," or be able to find every exploit in the game and fix them all. That's ridiculous. Nor am I am asking them to fix every "minute detail." I'm pointing out that as a player of Gears 1, which I enjoyed highly and rarely had lag issues or game-breaking exploits ruin my experience with the game, I am dissatisfied with Gears 2 multiplayer experience.
Since you seem to be able to explain away all the problems I'm having with Gears 2, explain to me how it's fun to wait 20 minutes to start a game (wait times are not negligible, all my friends are still having problems with waiting and lots of people I've talked to online are as well), then get shoveled into a game type I don't want to play, have two of my team mates quit instantly and then have the other team destroy me because they're hoping all over the place because of lag killing me in single shots with the shotgun and my bullet-lag is about 5 seconds from when I press the trigger? A day or so after the second patch I tried playing for a couple hours and had a terrible time because problems like this. I never joined a game without terrible lag, ranging from me not even spawning in for about 30 seconds to the above-mentioned bullet lag. I tried again a second day and had the same thing happen. I've never had a problem with my internet connection, and yes I played my fair share of laggy games in Gears 1 but they were rarely game breaking, I could still play them and have some amount of fun. What I've been experiencing with Gears 2 is horrible. I'm saying the problems with it right now for me are game breaking and while you seem to think most everything is fine I don't, and I can't help but think that this plethora of problems with the game (including the mountain of glitches prior to the patches) are because they shoved Gears 2 out the door as quickly as they could before it was properly QA'd so that they could get millions more from Microsoft for getting it out quickly.

Oh, you just know this movie will end up being PG-13 in order to get the desired demographic through the turnstiles (i.e. young males). Which is ironic considering the game is rated 'Mature.' But if they did did it to "Die Hard" they can do it to Gears of War.
I'm not exactly what the catalyst was that started the rigid enforcement of not letting 'underage' persons into movie screenings for rated 'R' films, but it wasn't like that when I was growing up. Unless the movie was rated "X," you could get into any film you wanted because the ratings were taken for what they are... *suggested guidelines.* Not laws (though I'm aware that some municipalities use the ratings to enact laws restricting audiences).
Now, north of 30 years of age, I'm asked to present my ID to a Best Buy cashier when I purchase Bioshock.
Onto Len Wiseman and "Live Free or Die Hard." Firstly, I'd like to state that I enjoyed the Underworld films he made.
I just saw 'Live Free or Die Hard" on home video a couple weeks ago. I'm down with the concept of 'suspension of dis-belief.' I can readily accept that John McClane can drive a tractor-trailer up a spiral on-ramp while dodging gunfire from a F-35 jet (I mean hey, he had all that experience from out-driving rushing floods in dump-trucks) in the name of entertainment. However, I'd at least like to be humored with a plot-line concept that at least respects itself.
They have to go to the power station because the power grid can only be turned off manually. When the good guys get to the power station and foil the bad guys present, the remote bad guys simply reverse all gas flows to said power station, causing a huge explosion... that shuts off all the power. But you *just said* you couldn't do that! 'Suspension of Intelligence' is more like it.
Quick question for those that saw it in the theater. Was there cursing in this movie? I don't mean the infamous "Yippee-ki-yay-Mother..." at the end. I'm talking about the sub-"fuck" curse words, like ass, shit, damn, dick, etc (you know, the usual fare that can pretty much be heard on late night television nowadays). Because the version I saw had it in there (plus the "Yippee-ki-yay-Motherfucker" was loud and clear).
Only my issue was that the cursing was almost jarring. "Jarring" in that it didn't seem to fit the audio-track well. After the third or fourth curse, I was immediately cued to the fact that you never saw the speaker's mouth when the curse was uttered (not until "yippee-ki-yay..."), and there was sometimes a seemingly awkward, short pause to the dialog around the curse.
I had actually forgotten about all the controversy surrounding this movie being bumped down to PG-13, but it was this 'weirdness' with the language that brought it all back to me upon viewing it. The sorry thing was that the edited-in blue language added absolutely nothing to the film. Who was that supposed to appease? I mean, I have the mouth of a sailor, but just because a movie has cursing in it doesn't raise my opinion of it.
I don't know who was really responsible for all these questionable decisions, but the reality is that Len Wiseman's name was stamped on it. I don't have high expectations for his Gears of War movie(s), but I'll still check them out.

If they made it pg-13 it defendantly wouldn't be true to gears. Gears is one of the most 0bloodiest and violent game ever. If it was rated Pg -13 it would sell, but it would follow every other video game movie out there, by sucking ass.
