Demo-rama: MLB 2K9 [update]
In the special way that only Joystiq can, we're taking two demos that most of you won't care about, combining them into one post and, with just a little bit of pixie dust, making them newsworthy. It's a dangerous, arcane sort of magic, not to be attempted by novices or those with a heart condition.
So, if you'd like a sampling of MLB 2K9 or Monsters vs. Aliens, you maybe be in the minority of people on earth, but you're also in luck. Behold!
Update: Yep, we've already posted about Monsters vs. Aliens, but at least there's no chance anyone will miss out now.

The above picture is a PSA for steriod use. The blue blob used to be Barry bonds.

Why is this article so negative? Some people like baseball games and cute in CGI monsters. Even though I don't play MLB 2K9 (The Show is so much better) and I probably will never see this movie, but somebody might care...meh...
Doc @ Feb 24th 2009 12:37PM
"demos that most of you won't care about"
I know Joystiq is all "international" now and everything, but that's a little presumptuous don't you think? A lot of people like baseball, especially in the States, myself included.
I didn't pick up a 2k8 game, but I did play The Bigs, which was a good time killer and fun with friends.
So, how about being open to games other than FPS'ers fellas? I'll let you get back to your 24hr, special report, breaking news coverage of everything Halo related now.
decapit8 @ Feb 24th 2009 12:45PM
wouldnt the phrase "most of you wont care about" be completely correct?
im pretty sure sports games, especially baseball as well as childrens games, such as monsters, are not primarily the best selling game types of the system.
im sure there's a lot more people that care about halo news than baseball news... considering game sales.
they didnt say it was shit, they were just saying less people are going to be excited about these demos than most. and they are right, you just happen to be one of the people within that smaller group.

All of this coming from the man who just gave us the 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand review, talk about something most of us don't care about
Doug @ Feb 24th 2009 2:05PM
There's a game called "Blood in the Sand?" Wow... I thought that was just some big joke being played on us. Oh wait--it's both!

I find the humor in the article to be lacking. They put out flamebait like
"In the special way that only Joystiq can, we're taking two demos that most of you won't care about, "
Maybe by special they mean special ed
Kinda lame. The demo for the Monsters vs. Aliens was enjoyed by 3 of my kids who normally like really different games.
Maybe they should make there comments only after a game has been released and is doing good or bad...

Apparently, Justin was upset about being torn away from Fable to report on a game that he could care less about.
Obviously sports gamers are fewer because it takes more brain power to play them, but there are many that were highly anticipating the MLB 2k9 demo.
After Justin changes his pants from the "Fitty Cent" game, he may like this game. If not, he can dive into his own Fable world where he can be half the man he wants to be.

"Obviously sports gamers are fewer because it takes more brain power to play them"
lolwut

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this guy meant, "it takes more brain power to figure out defense schemes in an NFL game, set up your pitching, figure out when to make a double switch, run a baseball franchise in an MLB, etc, than it takes to run around as a rapper in the middle east shooting a bazooka."
If he didn't mean that, then I'm a little lost too. lol
mattstl77 @ Feb 24th 2009 2:14PM
That is exactly what I meant... you just said it a bit more eloquently than I did! :)
DICK @ Feb 24th 2009 1:46PM
Correction:
"So, if you'd like a sampling of MLB 2K9 or Monsters vs. Aliens, you maybe be in the minority of people on earth, but you're also in luck."
it should read:
"...Monsters vs. Aliens, you may be in..."
Also, technically anyone who wants to try a demo of any kind is probably in the minority of people on Earth. Not even the Halo Wars demo could boast having >50% of the world's population try it out.

Well, don't get me wrong, I understand where they're coming from, but I wouldn't go as far as to mention MLB 2K9 in the same breath as an arcade game 3 adults will play. I know it's not Madden, but it IS a major sports game from a major sports studio, and it's basically the only licensed one on the system...
Oddly, baseball still garners more TV viewers 18-35, and generates more on-site/stadium ticket sales than say, basketball and hockey (well, everything is higher rated than hockey).
Again, I'm not naive enough to think MLB2k9 has the following of "Gears of War" or even "Far Cry." but let's not start equating it with a forgettable, two-bit arcade game.
CannabisPrime @ Feb 24th 2009 2:16PM
It's my understanding that most (if not all) of the games with the suffix "2k#" don't change much from the previous version. And odds are the people who would be interested in buying the next year's version of said games wouldn't need to download the demo. They know what they're getting, so they'll just go out and buy it...or not.

i wish there was a better baseball sim on xbox than 2krap9. i miss mlb2005. say what you will about EA, but their baseball games have been top notch. it's a shame we have to play twatk9 if we want a current 360 baseball game.
Ethan Rom @ Feb 24th 2009 4:34PM
I know what you mean. I still play MVP baseball 2005 on my PC. I am seriously thinking about buying a PS3 just for MLB the show. That is a great baseball game. I had last years for PSP and I played 3 full seasons. Until my PSP broke.
MLB2K8 for the 360, I couldn't even finish my first season. We need a good baseball game for Xbox360.
Jason @ Feb 24th 2009 5:30PM
The sooner EA buys out Take 2 Interactive, the sooner the sports gaming world can rejoice, especially the baseball fans.
Gary @ Feb 24th 2009 6:23PM
oh that's what i mean, mvp2005. yeah i still play it too...i gave my ps2 to my gf when i got a 360 elite in summer '07. that was the only sport game she was able to play (and beat me sometimes), so we crack it open for old time's sake...that and major league baseball with ken griffey jr for N64 were the best baseball games.
i don't get why they can't make any of the games on PS3 for 360...exclusive license for take 2?
EA's supposed to buy them out? i didn't hear. that'd be good news for me. EA's FIFA games are always my favorite every year.
burjeffton @ Feb 24th 2009 4:07PM
Yeah, baseball sucks! I can't wait to beat off to the latest japanime piece of sh!t you'll be hyping next week!
bugatti23007 @ Feb 24th 2009 9:24PM
Baseball is a real man's game.
