Vuze brings HD video streaming to Xbox 360 & PS3
Vuze got a big update today. Version 4.2 of the torrent client/online video portal service now allows live video streaming to game consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The software acts as a media server and can directly transfer High Def content (music vids, the latest movie trailers and television episodes) free of charge to consoles on the same network.
Streaming to consoles isn't anything new, but it certainly hasn't been made this easy -- just simply drag-and-drop the video poised for streaming into Vuze's "Devices" tab and you're set. Vuze will automatically convert file formats if it detects that the original file can't be played on the receiving device. Oh, and the fact that it is completely free should be reason enough to try it out.

PS3 Media Server already takes care of all my "streaming HD-video to PS3" needs, but alternatives are always good.
altctrlpwn @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:15PM
Same here, was wondering if there was any significant advantage Vuze has over PS3 Media Server; there's no need to even drag and drop, you just select files on your hard drive directly via the XMB. Can't be any easier than that . . .

Thanks for the gift! X-mas is here early!

I will wait til I can watch my HD content on my external HDD. I never stream, why stream when I have a 1tb drive hooked up. It is smooth and I can download and not have to worry about it taking a year to open.
When will Xbox allow a HDTV format???
Xiphias @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:36PM
Umm, the 360 already supports a number of HD formats, for instance using the avi and mp4 containers...
I'm not sure what files you are referring to that will not play...
You can always transcode them, or demux/remux to a different container if they are mkv for example to keep the quality...

Awesome, since I have a Mac at home, I've been left out by other media streaming solutions (free ones that is). I'll have to upgrade and give it a go as soon as I get home, thanks Vuze!
jake @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:23PM
I cant download till i get out of work, can anyone confirm this will allow you to play MKV files on your 360?
Nick @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:26PM
reading fail.
Seriously, you can look at joystiq but you can't click on the link for the site itself?

There, I made it easy. Next time with the reading - try it!

I missed that on the about page for vuze, thanks post nazi!
Popfrogs @ Mar 23rd 2009 7:06PM
I may check this out. So far Tversity has been good enough, I have it set to rescan my downloads folder every 24 hours, so anything I acquire will show up on the XMB the next day, same day if I force a refresh.
SirDonShetland @ Mar 31st 2009 2:43PM
i have had these features for almost a year already using software called "Tversity".
Which is also free.
Draco @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:53PM
TVersity is great and all, but it tends to disconnect me occasionally, I need to tell windows to restart the service or the PS3 can't detect it... I'm curious if this would be more stable.
hopefully it is a little easier to customize then TVersity too.
meth0dical @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:31PM
i hope i dont have to switch gui's to the "new vuze." i've been using this client since azureus 1.x and since the changeover to vuze i've kept it on the classic 2.x gui style.
meth0dical @ Mar 23rd 2009 6:34PM
well apparently i do have to switch over... and i cant even get the 4.2 update through the client's update service yet.
bigred @ Mar 23rd 2009 7:29PM
PS3 Media Server is still my personal choice for all my streaming needs.
It's free, java based, highly customizable and easy to use.

I've been using Vuze for this very purpose for months, what's new about it?
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Mar 23rd 2009 8:33PM
really???
I could never get it to stream what I downloaded. I didnt think it could encode things right at the time
Rufus @ Mar 23rd 2009 8:47PM
Yuppers.
As long as I downloaded an accepted file format (avi for instance), I could/can run it straight through the Xbox video pane.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Mar 23rd 2009 7:36PM
Nice. Now I can download my porn and stream it in Vuze. Vuze sucked at recoding before.....

wow i always loved azeures when it was just a torrent software but when it turned into vuze i was amazed at how brilliant the search features were. and now this! what an awesome developer!! and its all free!!!
drdre74 @ Mar 24th 2009 8:31AM
I've been using Eyeconnect which i like because i can just select folders i want to stream out of and thats it but I always get a network error when streaming video that flashes at the top right corner during the movie that gets on my nerves. Hard not to notice it. lol! I'll update my Vuze and see how this works.
RedSonRising @ Mar 24th 2009 10:27AM
works for me. takes time to convert movies that arent already compatible with the xbox but if movie is already in the right format it shows up instantly. very happy to see mkv 'support' even if its not perfect.
chilaxin5 @ Mar 24th 2009 4:43PM
how did you get vuze to show on your xbox 360?
chilaxin5 @ Mar 24th 2009 4:39PM
Vuze says its connected to my xbox 360, but Vuze doesnt appear on my xbox 360 under my "video library"! why is this?
drdre74 @ Mar 24th 2009 7:28PM
Vuze beta is crap and it doesnt even work. I've been using Eyeconnect for months and it works fine I just get a xonnextion error alot when streaming at the top of the screen. I just tried this Vuze and it doesnt read any of my movies, Not even the same ones that eyeconnect shows up just fine. I get a error and thats it. I'm on a G4 mac with 10.5. I get error: analysis failed, Nullpointer exception

First timer.... Looking to cut the cable and go with a blu-ray membership. There are a handful of shows like "The Office" which will be tough to quit. Can anyone tell me how realistic it will be to watch an episode via a PS3?
Thanks!
Joseph @ May 13th 2009 3:22AM
I'm having the same problem that chilaxin5 had... Vuze says it's connected to my Xbox360, but there is nothing showing up on my Xbox to access my Vuze content.
I'm using a MacBook Pro, and I'm connected to my Xbox via Connect360 software. Any help would be appreciated!
