Video: Gears of War 2's new ranking system

With the recent release of Gears of War 2's third title update and the complete overhaul of the game's ranking system, we figured we'd put together a helpful video explaining all the changes.

Embedded above is a short (and super sweet) video showcasing the new Gears 2 ranking system, including an explanation of those new pop-up "toast" messages. After giving the footage a watch, roadie-run over to the official Gears of War 2 forums to get informed about what enhancements, bug fixes and improvements title update three has brought us.

it was just high pitched for a bloke, to me.. I think it's just an accent thing..

'yam-yams' from the black country, north of Birmingham, have a simular accent to Brummies like me, but they're higher pitched..

K for the people that don't understand the "Standby Detection Code" they added, When you standby you leave a "Paper Trail" so Automatically There Gamertag Is in the System waiting to enter Epics Banning system so standbyers will get banned not just on the spot, so if you get standbyed just laugh at em :)

how exactly does this help with matchmaking? As far as I can tell, this only tells you who plays a ton and who doesn't! It doesn't say how GOOD someone is. Can't they just do something like Bungie did? Absolutely pathetic. It took them this long to just add the points up?

1500 points for quiting. Now that's what I like to see. I think I'll have to check back on gears now to see for myself if the game has actually improved. Oh wait I forgot I threw the disc out the window. Oh well.

NOT what I like to see. It's good for whiny players but what if my connection glitches up? I get kicked out and blamed for disconnecting.

I've hated on Gears 2 multiplayer since it came out. It was broken, it was garbage and it made me HATE the game.

That said, this patch - I don't know what it's done, but I LOVE playing the game again. It's not AS good as Gears 1, but damn it's getting back on track.

Finally Epic is fixing stuff. I'm buying the new maps, simple as that.

If they keep this up, the game is going to be teh awesome.

they haven't fixed the bots though.. they still don't have to face the direction they're firing..

The new ranking system is as bad as the old one. Me and my friend were in a party together (two level 1's) and went in to matchmaking. Our team consisted of 1, 1, 5, 2, 7. The other team consisted of 21, 18, 14, 8, 7. How does that happen? That's broken matchmaking right there. I am convinced this game is FUBAR.

the new level has nothing to do with the matchmaking, the players are still selected with the old levels, you just dont see them now.

Your visible rank is not what you're matched by. The TrueSkill system is still in place, just invisible. You're matched by TrueSkill, and your visible rank is just a representation of how much you play, or how much lifetime experience you have. Look at it this way: The visible number is just an indication of the QUANTITY of your play, not necessarily the QUALITY. You could play on winning teams all day and hit Rank One Zillion, and yet never learn a damn thing. TrueSkill is your quality, experience point are your quantity.

Why did they even add the numbers then if you don't get matched by them? That's even more stupid IMHO sounds to me like they're trying to hide the old shitty ranking system with this "new and improved" numbers, but everyone keeps telling me that the old system is there you just can't see it. WTF was the point of "changing" the ranking system if all it did was add numbers? Sounds like a waste of time to me.

GoW2 is a piece of trash slow as hell shooter, it's like playing GoW1 in slow-mo. The game has no pace or excitement anymore and is just boring.
