Call of Duty 4 patch has cheaters in its sights, finger on the trigger

According to @fourzerotwo, Infinity Ward is in the final stages of crafting a patch that will take aim at cheaters on the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4. The patch is in the certification process right now and should hit the battlefield soon, so if you've found yourself on the receiving end of a nasty cheat (with 15 million players, odds are you have), know that reinforcements are on the way.

Little late. If they have time for this, maybe it is a sign that they just might have enough time to develop a multiplayer level from the ground up, and not just take cookie cutters to the single player.

I was about to ask the same thing. I haven't played in a while, but never really ran in to cheaters when I did play. I guess with WaW out, only the truly hardcore (and cheaters) are still playing so it would likely be more noticeable. Back to the original statement, I wonder what is going on.

I've seen videos on youtube of people doing this superman god mode thing. Where people fly around the map invincible killing people. But I've never come across this online.

You can mod godmode and noclip as well as various other commands into you're profile.

People use modded controllers to make single shot guns like the G3 shoot like a machine gun. I always run across these and they are a pain in the ass. Its a little late though cuz WaW capped gun shots awhile ago.

What a waste of time...i stopped playing this ages ago because of the cheaters. Great game but Infinity Ward bailed on this way too early...only one map pack and 18 months to fix the cheaters? Poor service imho.

Cheaters?... what are they doing that makes you think that they are cheating? ...

The only things i notice is the people getting out of the map ... that's about it. I have about 700+ hrs playing this game, and i have not ran into people that cheat.

People are lag switching... I have a buddy in my clan who can do it. They use a switch to mess up the internet signal that causes people to freeze like the Matrix while they run around and kill you. They disappear and reappear like Jumper... Its crazy. Until he showed me I never knew people were doing it...

Finally. I've noticed a lot of this growing in the past couple months, and it makes the games very irritating. The important thing, though, will be getting it right for MW2.

I was wondering if something odd was going on, I've noticed a lot of people seem to be moving either at super speeds, or that jerkily you can't shoot them. Thought it was my connection at first but everything tests fine on it.

Right. Because the entire Infinity Ward staff can only do one task at a time, debug the game OR work on something new.

Better late than never, you know? It's still top 3 on the Live charts, a year and a half later. Obviously people are playing it.

The rapid fire / quick reload controllers are annoying, but how often do you see someone dominating the game with it.

Can't tell you how many of them have negative K/D ratio.

Wow . even though i still play this everyday ... i think its a bit late ... instead of working on this, they should have been working on fixing the spawning and more DLC stuff, with MW2 around the corner i don't think people care about this anymore...

Well, I love this game and more and more ppl are jerkkilling... true they might be late but i see it as them stating that they're not forgetting the fans, even if the MW fad is gone... and maybe this patch IS something they'll be using on MW2...

i got all the achievements and i still play this game... the only thing is that more maps would of been cool...
BUT we can all agree this is still the less stressful multi-player... dunno about you but i dont miss the days i used to b**** about H3 and lame kills and lag...

Wake up children!!!! It's obvious they want to test their attempt to fix the cheating with a fully functional and known cheating online game. Therefore using COD 4 makes a lot of since. In fixing this problem they are preparing a better game for MW2, so they are focusing on old problems to prevent same bad issues for new games. I say it's about time these computer programers used there noggin to fix a potential problem for future gaming every where. Cheaters, glitchers, hackers, modded controller users and interuption to the ethernet cable (lag switches) users can hurt Video Game Industry if not kept in check, by causing gamers that don't cheat to not invest money towards it which can put companies out of business. They can also help the industry by forcing new technologies to be developed, creating better gaming and new levels of playing. Thanks for finally attempting to put cheaters in check. I stopped investing money into my PSP because of hackers/homebrewers. I have noticed PSP falling off the charts mainly do to cheaters not put in check. PSP's fate will happend to other devices if this COD 4 test doesn't help.

I really don't understand cheating in a video game. You are really only cheating yourself.

The lag switching was a real issue in gears of war 2, but since the last update if the connection goes bad like during a lag switch, the host is dropped, the game ends, and when the host re logs in, he is penatilized points. The situation has gotten much better since they implemented it.

I actually encountered my first cod4 cheater yesterday lol. He had the freaking god mod thing and was flying everywhere... not only that but you cannot kill them either, completely invincible... What a big waste of my time to go up against those kind of people...

Yeah, played a cheater yesterday, flying around and had god mode, he ended up on 112 kills no deaths (was sabotage) Everyone filed a complaint, wonder if it even does anything?? Hopefully it fixes the G3 turbo controller hack, everyone uses that in hardcore games.

C'mon COD4 was the best and fastest selling game, i hate first person shooters but this is the only game that pulled me away from Gears of War and i reached prestige 10 and all gold weapons, During all that time i only got 3Major Updates and 1map pack? game of the year with bad support. This isn't gonna change anything people don't care about COD4 anymore because Modern Warfare 2 is already in there head.

Ever play Halo 2 back in its heyday? The old "modem standby" cheat almost ruined the game until Bungie dropped the Banhammer. I've played a lot of COD4 but never really noticed that going on. Anything's possible, I guess.

the problem with turtle beach headsets is that whoever has them just sit in corners and wait till they hear some1 then pop out and kill them,it's just a gay way of playing the game and takes no skill.

you dont need turtle beach headsets to listen to sound and be aware of your surroundings, and you dont need to listen to sound to be a camper. the tactical advantage you gain from sound in cod4 is part of the reason why its such a great game imo.

either way, if it bothers you so much then use dead silence perk or crouch more.

So they don't let you listen to the other teams chatter? I though they gave you some wrongful edge. You can turn your tv up and hear people moving. I agree with damnreds. I take advantage of some fool clomping around loudly. Shoot his ass.

I've seen that on W@W. The moment the match starts the cheater flew up and away around and through the map killing all opposing players and teammates trying to kill him. These two cheaters were killing me. I swear XBox LIVE security and or complaint making are a joke.
