Xbox 360 Fancast 117 -- One One Seven
It's a very special week for the Xbox 360 Fancast everyone. In celebration of reaching episode 117 -- incidentally the ID number of our favorite Spartan, Master Chief John-117 -- we forced peaceably coerced Bungie's Community Lead Brian Jarrard to appear on the show. We shoot the breeze about ODST, the new film rendering feature for Halo 3, shenanigans and much more.

I own a Zune, I have never owned an iPod but its pretty good.
RedSonRising @ May 18th 2009 8:52PM
ah yes, thats what i forgot to rant about: ipods vs zunes
first off, i am an apple harware fanboy. i have one macbook, have owned 5 ipods (classics, nanos and shuffles) and they all works perfectly . currently im plotting on a 3G iphone or ipod touch for various reasons.
i recommend ipods to everybody. IMO theyre pretty much the standard for mp3 players out there. ipods work on every platform, very user friendly and have tons of accessories.
zunes have some great features but ive never personally owned one. i do look down my nose and laugh at ppl who buy non-ipod mp3 players (and PCs :) for being cheap and/or stupid but thats just me.

Ooooh. Parlour Steps! Love this track. Seriously, check out their album 'Ambiguoso.' It's awesome.
Oh... and I guess the show was okay too.
CH3BURASHKA @ May 19th 2009 12:19AM
It's OK Xav, I know what it's like to be misunderstood. You shit on the Zune only because you know that it's superior, and you can't live with the fact that you're a fallible human being for purchasing Apple products.
It's OK Xav, you need not hide in your shell any longer, you can come out. We understand. We see you for who you are.
Xav de Matos @ May 19th 2009 8:59AM
Sorry... I need a translator. I don't speak CRAZY!

Zune owner from day one and I love it. Hmph!
Larry @ May 19th 2009 2:12PM
Wow, I can not believe you guys started hating on the Zune so much. From everything I have heard the Zune is a solid product, and besides the New Year bug every one seems to be happy. I would suggest you guys ease back on the Apple Koolaid. The Ipod as a device is OK, but do not let the hype override the functionality. Itunes is a really bad software package. The Ipod may not be in danger of loosing marketshare, but that does not mean the Zune HD is going to be a bad project.
If Zune HD is anything like the rumor I would pick one up.
Xav de Matos @ May 19th 2009 3:43PM
Saying one thing sucks or isn't a good idea doesn't immediately mean we're in love with everything it competes with.
Larry @ May 19th 2009 4:00PM
At least one of you were comparing it against the Ipod. You are right saying something sucks even though you have not seen it (the new version) or used is a much better criticism.
Xav de Matos @ May 19th 2009 5:39PM
No. I said the current Zune sucks (which I have played with) and the Zune HD seems stupid. Details.
Rick @ May 19th 2009 6:59PM
A bit surprised myself the Zune was jabbed at like that. It may not be for everyone (especially those on 'apple koolaid') but it is a solid product nonetheless.
Misfit Toy @ May 25th 2009 12:34PM
Agreed. They are blinded by the Apple marketing. And seriously...that iTunes software is a pile of doo-doo. I hated it back when I all I had was an iPod. I have an even greater disliking for it now that I don't have to deal with it anymore.
Misfit Toy @ May 25th 2009 12:36PM
I just don't get how you can say the current Zune sucks. What does it do so poorly to merit the 'suck' rating?
Quattro @ May 26th 2009 8:12AM
What exactly is supposed to be the problem with the Zune? I had an iPod and upgraded to a Zune recently, and it's great. The sound quality is better, and its got an FM radio built in. I don't really understand why anyone complains about it.
nord2007 @ May 19th 2009 5:18PM
where's the link for the panzer dragoon saga (?) poll?
Odog4ever @ May 19th 2009 6:55PM
Xav and Alexander need to stop smoking! I have an iPhone and a Zune. I only use my iPhone for apps and calls. The ipod feature never gets used because the interface is on par with Zune, not better. The whole iTunes/iTunes store tandem sucks. (I'll take DRM free tracks from amazonMP3 thank you) Seriously, iTunes is sluggish and is horrible at managing my media.
But anyway, you guys should want Zune to succeed. Apple needs a strong competitor. You know what happens when you there isn't strong competition in the market? You get the Madden series. You get Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Why innovate when you can just gouge people for incremental improvements? You guys should never encourage a monopoly ever. Think before you speak.
nutman @ May 24th 2009 5:28PM
I have a Zune. It's pretty awesome. I don't have an iPod because I just don't like the brand.
One thing to say about the 2nd Gen zunes: They are fucking crazy durable! I've dropped mine almost 20 times with the headphones in since I got it in Feb 2008. It still works perfectly. My Sandisk only lasted a couple falls.
Misfit Toy @ May 25th 2009 12:30PM
I have a Zune, second gen. Moved over from iTunes. I like it a lot better. Especially the software interface. iTunes interface is so dull. Zune's software interface is a lot better on the computer. Plus the monthly subscription is awesome, where I can download whatever I want for a flat fee (and download to own 10 songs a month).
And finally, I think the audio quality is better. And that's from a hardware standpoint. But also, the standard Zune file is 192kbps as opposed to Apple's 128kbps. Some people may not notice the difference, but I do.
I agree, the first gen Zunes were ugly. That's why I didn't buy one. But the newer Zunes with the software upgrade smoke anything (save the iTouch) that Apple offers. And as we know, the iTouch is more money. So for the money, Microsoft wins. Additionally, we'll see what this Zune HD looks like.
I think you guys on the podcast are just living in the Apple world oblivious of what MS has to offer now. Go and check out the newer Zunes and then come back and tell me they're crap. Zune software is free to download, so there's a good place to start.
