Gears 2 Combustible map pack is Xbox's insulting deal of the week
Major Nelson brings word of another bad deal for Xbox's "deal of the week." The latest laughable offer is that the Gears of War 2 Combustible map pack is discounted from 800
($10) to the jaw-dropping price of 560
($7). Hold on, let us get the Sham Wow to absorb the drool of shock dribbling out of our mouths.
So, basically, if you haven't downloaded any of the new Gears of War 2 map packs yet, going online and downloading them breaks down like this:
($20) when it releases July 28. It's a sucker punch (not the good kind) for this content to go on sale now.
[Add the Gears 2: Combustible Multiplayer Map Pack to your download queue ... although we recommend you don't.]

Boo to another crappy "deal". To keep this weekly promotion from becoming a total joke they're going to have to start giving real discounts (read: >= 50%) on things people actually want. Let's start with new (or even semi-new) Arcade games.
Here's my proposal for next week's Deal of the Week: Castle Crashers for 600 points.
Bam. Done. 50,000 takers.

Hate to break your heart, but this is from the ad in OXM.
"June 8th-June 14th - Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack - 30% Off (560 MS points)
June 15th-June 21st - Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage - 30% Off (560 MS points)
June 22nd-June 28th - Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix - 30% Off (840 MS points)
June 29th-July 5th - Fable II Knothole Island - 30% Off (560 MS points)"

*Stolen from ashkpa on CAG b/c I'm too lazy to type it.

Ah, devs trying to wring every possible penny they can out of a game I already bought for $60. Don't you love consoles and DLC?
AoE @ Jun 8th 2009 6:00PM
Not as much as I love to see this complaint or one like it every single time there's a story about DLC that's not free.
pibs @ Jun 8th 2009 2:56PM
Epic Ripoff!
panzerklein @ Jun 8th 2009 3:08PM
Hah.
Epic lost me when they changed their minds about the Retail Box of Dark Corners.
This is just bullshit. Saving my points for Fallout 3 and Burnout Paradise.
Rhamsey @ Jun 8th 2009 3:17PM
Dear Microsoft,
I dont give a shit about cheaper dlc, especially when its been out forever. Every arcade game you have offered (except that terrible brain training game) I have bought. Please give me cheaper games. Cause unlike retail games, arcade games never drop in price.
I'm sending this to ms now.
Silencio @ Jun 8th 2009 3:26PM
You bought every arcade game? You a sucker.
Rhamsey @ Jun 8th 2009 6:00PM
I dont think so, i got great games like braid, castle crashers, bionic commando for great prices. its not like i bought the brain challange game.
HitNRun @ Jun 8th 2009 3:24PM
Yet another Deal of the Weak.
Remember a year ago, when the DOTW was just a memory from the 360's early days and everyone was clamoring to get it back? I think we were better off back then without it. Now we still don't get any deals, except we get insulted every week.
joeybeast @ Jun 8th 2009 3:33PM
30% off is what the desperate Macy's offer.
Gemini Ace @ Jun 8th 2009 3:33PM
Epic fail. Pun intended.
NDrew2 @ Jun 8th 2009 3:38PM
Yeah, this is pretty stupid. Doing stuff like this benefits no one. We're missing out on a deal this week and all Microsoft is going to make off of this is ill will. Post a good game at a good price and everyone's happy. How hard is that?
MS should be rewarding their loyal customers, not sucking points out of them.
Alex @ Jun 8th 2009 4:53PM
Magic 8ball says there will be no Gears of War 3 in my future.
Tep @ Jun 8th 2009 4:59PM
I sure do love that the same people complaining are the ones buying DLC and complaining about being ripped off. 10 bucks for 3 maps? You have to be fucking kidding me.
chenry @ Jun 9th 2009 10:16AM
I thought it was 4 maps. But yeah, $10 for 3 or 4 maps is still a huge rip off. I never bought the map packs, and now with All Fronts coming in about 2 months I'll be laughin' when I get all the maps + campaign for a whole lot less. Pays to wait, people.
Mazrael @ Jun 8th 2009 4:59PM
Loyalty gets you nowhere...
I have all the map packs, only FB were free, but they're still screwing us with the maps/mission..
Crusty Magic @ Jun 8th 2009 6:49PM
Epic can go suck a big one.
Gears 2 is still buggy as hell.
ImbecilePete @ Jun 9th 2009 8:02AM
VALVe should decide the deal of the week on XBL
they had the Penumbra collectors edition on sale for €5 on steam
thats 3 great games that normally cost €10 each
Boff @ Jun 9th 2009 9:55AM
I'm confused.com. What's the upcoming DLC with the new stealthy gameplay + maps then? is that All Fronts?? I thought it was Dark Corners but not after reading that article.
Dowse @ Jun 9th 2009 7:07PM
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think all fronts is a collection of the older stuff and the new.
Jez @ Jun 11th 2009 9:39AM
@ Dowse
Yeah you're quite right - All Fronts includes all the DLC up to and including Dark Corners. I think I also read it comes with a premium theme for 1600 points.
Dark Corners is simply 7 new maps and a new chapter in campaign for 1200 points.
chenry @ Jun 9th 2009 10:15AM
How dumb do they think we area, anyway?
A T @ Jun 14th 2009 12:50AM
Seriously? Seriously? Why must they try to rip us off?
