This week, Sega has dropped six new games onto Xbox Live Arcade as part of its Sega Vintage Collection. These six titles are timeless classics and definitely need no introduction for Sega fans. For the rest of you, expect a crash course in Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Sonic 3, Shinobi, Phantasy Star II, and Gunstar Heroes (400/$5 each).
Comix Zone is ok.. it's fairer in the trial, but a lot of things cause damage as you attack them, Save system saves it for me, tonight was the first time I'd ever completed it.. Altered Beast is terrible, never liked it Sonic is what it was.. didn't like that Shinobi.. I think it was Revenge that I liked... I almost squee'd at Phantasy Star 2.. I hope they release the other 3! you have to go east first, then come back home, then east again, once you have what you need, go east again, before that bridge you finished at.. Gunstar.. don't think I liked that either..
I have the collection.. it felt like a survey to see what was popular, as it had a rating system for each game, which I felt was something they could integrate into Live (but they'd have to do it so you couldn't just play the first level of Mirrors Edge or Force Unleashed & give it 5 out of 5, but have to actually complete the game on normal or higher, before awarding 3 or more - a set of stars for campaign, set of stars for online..)
besides the XBLA versions are so much more convienient..
Altered Beast is terrible. It's famous for being a Genesis pack-in game. :P
You can only play as Knuckles in the multiplayer mode (the regular one, not the single player Tails sidekick thing) of Sonic 3 unless you have Sonic & Knuckles locked on.
All of these are on Ultimate Genesis Collection, except for Gunstar Heroes. It's probably a better idea to get that.
comix zone is pretty sweet, but if i didn't have it for the wii and dont really like getting damaged from like everything and limited lives on the wii version kinda makes me want to play this one.
First of all Altered Beast is a classic. Second of All, UGS doesn't allow Lock on, and Shinobi and Altered Beast at least are the arcade ports, not the genesis versions, so they play better/differently.
The arcade versions of Altered Beast and Shinobi are in Ultimate Genesis Collection. I didn't realize lock-on worked in the XBLA version, though. (Is Sonic & Knuckles even out/planned?)
Played Altered Beast last night, and you can easily grab 150 gamerscore points and complete the game in one sitting. Co-op works well, but playing over Live seemed laggy to me.
yea, Roto.. on XBLA, you get the Vintage menu screen, none of the original menu's are there.. so exiting Jukebox brings you out of the actual game.. you don't event get the 'Ooh Yeah!' sound effect when entering the cheats.. but on the other hand, you do get to save you progress, with 3 save slots..
Sorry, this does look like a ripoff to me, considering that pretty much every game (except for Gunstar Heroes) is on the Ultimate Collection, which you can get for about the same amount of cash as all six games combined.
i did not know that, i only played it when i was a younging and didn't really know how to look up codes and on my wii i got pretty far to like the arena and such and then just gave up.

Apologies for the lack of emotion in my narration over the gameplay. I'm extremely sick today. :(

If you want all three Genesis PS games, might as well get the Collection for like $25. Plus it has the original on master system.
It's hard to not see these as a rip... From what Xbox.com says, they don't even have online play.

There's an invincibility code, you know. :P
Mazrael @ Jun 11th 2009 1:45PM
The invincibility & level select codes no longer work as the jukebox is seperated from the campaign..

I'm talking about the Wii version. The cheats don't work in the XBLA version? That sucks. Another fail for Backbone.
