Epic dishes on Gears of War 2 TU4, Dark Corners Achievements
Epic is waiting on certification for Title Update 4, the latest major update to Gears of War 2, but that didn't stop Rod Fergusson from hitting the forums and dropping some info. First of all, Public Horde matches will now have the ability to restart on a failed wave, instead of having to go all the way back to square one. Then there's the addition of experience to Horde mode (which we knew about), which Rod says will break down as follows:
- 50 points per completed Casual wave.
- 75 points per completed Normal wave.
- 100 points per completed Hardcore wave.
- 125 points per completed Insane wave.
- "My Way or the Highway" (25
): Without being detected, complete the "Road to Ruin" deleted scene after choosing the stealth option. - "Highway to Hell" (25
): Complete the "Road to Ruin" deleted scene after choosing the guns-blazing option. - "Two for the Road" (25
): Complete the "Road to Ruin" deleted scene in co-op as either Marcus or Dom. - "Be Careful What You Wish For" (10
): Reach level 5 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 10 on the War Machine map in Horde (any difficulty). - "Ride It All Night Long" (10
): Reach level 10 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 10 on the Highway map in Horde (any difficulty). - "No, But His Face Rings a Bell" (15
): Reach level 15 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 20 on the Sanctuary map in Horde (any difficulty). - "Lost in Transition" (20
): Reach level 20 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 20 on the Way Station map in Horde (any difficulty). - "Like Father, Like Gun" (30
): Reach level 30 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 30 on the Allfathers Garden map in Horde (any difficulty). - "Am I Only Dreaming?" (40
): Reach level 40 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 40 on the Memorial map in Horde (any difficulty). - "Blood on the Sand" (50
): Reach level 50 in multiplayer and complete waves 1 through 50 on the Nowhere map in Horde (any difficulty). - "Afraid of the Dark" (20
): Play a multiplayer match on each of the seven Dark Corners Map Pack maps (any mode). - "Did Not Go Gentle" (30
): Win a multiplayer match on each of the seven Dark Corners Map Pack maps (any mode) - "Is it Hot or Is That Just You?" (25
): Kill 25 Bloodmounts with a Scorcher Flamethrower while playing Horde on a Dark Corners Map Pack map (any difficulty).

No kidding. They have lost all creativity. Everything that has to do with a new map is always in horde. Where are weapons achievements?
Why not switch it up... "Get 25 kills with the scorcher on X new map", "Get 25 headshots on X new map?", "Use an enemy as a meat shield on X new map"?
All their new achievements are so lame...

because that causes douchbags to ruin the online experience for everybody else.

Great more Horde achievements.
/Sarcasm

Finally! Earning experience points for Horde! I hated the fact that all that Horde playing didn't earn me anything.

Seems like they should ratchet up the experience in Horde depending on the level. For instance, level 50 in casual is harder than level 1 in normal, so you should be awarded for that. Maybe add 5 pts to wave awards ever 10 levels up, similar to how they ramp up difficulty.

Gotta give it to Epic for the cheekiness on level 50 "Blood on the Sand", NICE!!!!!
And Nick, i think the whole point that they got rid of the weapon achievements was because of the weapon hording people were doing. The bloodmount wit the flame thrower is a nice touch though.

I'm very tempted to buy Dark Corners/Hidden Fronts (whichever it is) that comes with all of the past DLC as well. $20 isn't bad for a ton of DLC, but then I remember how often I play Gears 2... I don't find the multiplayer nearly as fun as the original Gears.
The Campaign? That was a ton of fun. One of my favorite single player campaigns, which is why the new campaign mission also intrigues me...

Aw crap.. I have to play Competitive MP & win for some of these.. jeez.. took long long enough to be on a team that could actually win..

Time to wipe the dust off my GOW2 game yet again.
I hope to hell they fix all the bugs.

Hahahahahaha! I think everyone wishes that, but I doubt it somehow. Gears 2 is, alongside the PC versions of oblivion and fallout 3, one of the buggiest games I've ever played (I honestly don't know which is worst. I meen gears has things like the lag glitch where you spawn without a gun, but oblivion & fallout have loads of CTDs etc)
Don @ Jun 23rd 2009 3:19PM
I bought fallout 3 for the pc, and the game wont even start, I payed 50$ for an icon that displays a black box in the corner of my screen that times out after 10 seconds w000, gears 2, with its faults is infinitely more fun than that piece of crap. And the worst part is I bought it for my dad on fathers day
Lemon8 @ Jun 23rd 2009 4:39PM
Wouldn't it be more logical if the total of the new achievements was 325, instead of 345 ? 1425+325=1750 which is the recently set max gs score for games.
mofo2000 @ Jun 23rd 2009 5:17PM
Well, if they don't region lock my ass I'll be sure to download it :)

THANK YOU. FINALLY.

I'm still looking forward to TU4, even though it looks as if we'll all be playing a lot more Horde... ughhh;)

I don't know about the restart in public mode... That was how I figured out who I WANTED to play 50 rounds of horde in private mode... not just some douche looking for an Achievement. So what's the break even then on gaining points in horde versus dropping out when your team has someone going "Rambo"?
