PSA: Kodu Game Lab is now live
Just a quick reminder from your friends at Joystiq, if you wanted to try your hand at the totally cool visual game programming of Kodu Game Lab, the title is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace (though you'll have to navigate over to the Community Games section to find it).
For just 400 MS points ($5) you can build your very own game from the ground up, all the while being reminded that no matter how hard you work at it, Sparrow still owns you. If you manage to make anything cool (though admittedly never as cool as what Sparrow makes) let us know in the comments below.

I can't seem to get anything at all off of Live today. Nothing but errors on the 360 and "not founds" on the site.
Aero @ Jul 1st 2009 1:07PM
I managed to download the demo on the 360 earlier but while I was doing so I got a mess of "Information cannot be retrieved from Xbox Live" errors too.

Where is the screaming Dead Space chick?
RonaldoMoon @ Jul 1st 2009 1:19PM
Will playing this make me want to always wear sunglasses indoors?
RonaldoMoon @ Jul 1st 2009 1:26PM
Oh wait, this is called "Kodu", not "Kudo".

Live took my MS points but didnt give me the liscense to play the full version. WTF.
so now i'm down on MS points without this. great. now i have to call customer service. what a great morning. cant even get a community game out without a hiccup. *facepalm*
RonaldoMoon @ Jul 1st 2009 2:11PM
The Marketplace is acting up for me as well. I was able to successfully purchase and download this, though. Sorry about your luck, but I'm sure it will work itself out.
SecretAgentHam @ Jul 1st 2009 2:20PM
i'll give it till 6pm tonight (when i return from work)
if it isnt in my license by that time, i'll give a call. just cant beleive they took 400 points from me with nothing in return. its infuriating.
RonaldoMoon @ Jul 1st 2009 2:29PM
Same thing happened two weeks ago right after the downtime. I purchased Sam & Max, points were deducted but the game didn't download. If what's going on now is anything like that, and it seems to be, then you'll be able to download it either late tonight, or tomorrow and no extra points will be deducted. I guess it still wouldn't hurt to call MS though. Better safe than sorry.

You can keep an eye on Major Nelson's blog also. I'm sure he will mention something about it since it seems to be a widespread issue. I was able to get Kudo but I've run across quite a few errors as well. Looking at new Rock Band content was impossible.

There is a new wiki dedicated to Kodu Game Lab at http://koduplayground.com
It is just ramping up, but the site will soon contain reference materials relating to Kodu and its programming language including tutorials and how-to guides.
Angryhead @ Jul 1st 2009 3:23PM
Random fact: Kodu = Home in Estonian.
Rhamsey @ Jul 1st 2009 4:29PM
this is great for kids and such, but if you really want to learn how to make xna games, you need to know c# (thats sharp).
i recommend this guide: http://www.robmiles.com/c-yellow-book/
(its not for xna specifically, but xna is built on c#)

Why lead kids down that path of evil?

Programming fun for the whole family!
AnnoyingPoster @ Jul 1st 2009 6:32PM
because unlike you, some people like to make money.
learn c# kids
Shadow Hog @ Jul 1st 2009 5:13PM
I made a level where a tree shoots at an evercoming onslaught of Kodus. Eventually the tree keeps missing one Kudo, leading them to all gang up on it and beat it to a pulp.
400 MS Points well spent, even if C gives me more freedom.

Bravo Microsoft, Bravo.

will someone post a useful comment about how it is rather than bashing microsoft for their shitty internet connection going out?
djbuhhda @ Jul 1st 2009 7:12PM

AnnoyingPoster @ Jul 3rd 2009 8:52PM
sweet, $5 is one drink at the bar, sold.

Its a lot of fun to tinker around with. Its probably not going to create the game you ultimately want to end up with, but its a nice exercise in entry-level game programing that can yield some interesting results. Worth the price in my opinion, and hopefully the start of something more.
RedSonRising @ Jul 2nd 2009 2:21AM
how did i miss this? goin to dl right now! no way im gettin it thru the console tho, hopefully xbox.com is having fewer troubles..
Boff @ Jul 2nd 2009 7:40AM
Shit I missed this last night. Thanks for the reminder! I shall go and get it queued for when I get home tonight.
I'm hoping it's going to be fun to have a mess about with.
