Xbox Live Top 10: There can be only 1 (17)

Major Nelson's latest battle report comes as a bit of a surprise as Halo 3 was the most-played retail game of last week. With all of the new Gears of War 2 content, we were sure that game would be at the top, but Epic's title only managed to claw its way to fourth place yet again. It was bested by the usual double dose of Call of Duty action in Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War.

On the XBLA side, the frenetic tag-based combat of Marvel vs Capcom 2 was too much for the competition. Capcom's brawler enjoyed top placement, finally bumping down Battlefield 1943 to second place. Coming in at third was none other than 'Splosion Man, Twisted Pixel's excellent follow-up to previous Arcade hit, The Maw.

maybe Epic will get the picture and make Gears 3 more like Gears 1. No? You're right, they probably won't.

i just read today they might add a playable woman character in GOW3.... i thought they should add a playable multiplayer (sarcasm (about the multiplayer not the woman)

I play gears2 all the time - and I love seeing it down the list on the top 10. It was in first place for like what, 3 weeks? Maybe even less.

The week of comic-con, they didn't release the numbers. Too bad because I could almost GAURANTEE Battlefield 1943 beat Gears2 that week. Oh well.

The more weeks go by where Gears 2 'lags behind' the leaderboards (see what I did there? I added the word lag which PLAGUES the game online) the more time I hope they spend on gears 3.

Who would have thought, at any given time it seems like there is only 5-10 games of MVC2 going on, but I guess that was enough to bump bf1943 out. Though i did play much more mvc2 then bf1943 this week going for that 100 wins cheevo...

The XBLA top ten is based on full versions purchased, not multiplayer or even unique users.

All this MW2 hype is obviously helping CoD4. At least CoD4 is back above W@W, right were it should be.

I don't know why people are surprised that Gears isn't topping the list. I personally think the multiplayer on that game is terrible. Quite odd coming from a sick single player experience.

I play Halo 3 the most but I can appreciate Cod 4 is a good multiplayer experience too, I just don't understand why Gears is so popular online! :-S

Gears is fun. When laggage does happen, it REALLY happens. But 9/10 games I play don't have any noticeable lag at all. I bet Master Chief can't wield a chainsaw gun.

That's cool since I've been playing H3, cod4, and Splosion Man this these past two weeks. I barely got to part 3-2 on Splosion Man so I'll finish it this week. I also play Team Fortress 2 alot on the 360 almost as much as on my pc which is about 3-4 hours a day...

Dang. I haven't visited my old friend HALO 3 in awhile. Been on COD4 lately and excited about MW2. Maybe I'll check out Halo this weekend. I love the frantic pace of the multiplayer and lone wolve matches. Damn these games are sweet. I don't mind Gear of War 2 for horde and bots once in awhile. I was never good online though.

I've been playing Gears 2 Horde mode (& Bulletwitch) this week.. don;t know if your MP ranking affects teammates for Horde.. Because I'm usually one of worst ones on competitive MP; possibly down to no talks, but soon to bitch when you make a mistake.. but on Horde, I've been usually at the top of the table each round - although Gears 2 is still prone to quitters & idle players that join matches, but just stand there for the easy ranking experience at the end of the round even if they're dead

The console scales it from 640p to 720p, so the game is in HD.
Not native, but it is being displayed in HD.

If you want a game to pick on for not being HD, look at HAZE - it runs at 576p, that's Standard Definition for PAL!
