You should be asking how many minutes of gameplay can you expect. I player through the SNES version last night in half an hour and that has a couple of more levels than the original arcade game and this updated version.

It is starting to seem like Joystiq is reviewing games based on the demos. If that’s the case, that is extremely weak. How can you expect a review to be considered legitimate if the reviewer isn’t experiencing the full title? Just think of how poorly Bioshock would have been reviewed if all the reviewer did was play the “be a Big Daddy” level.

XBLA in Brief is not a review. The purpose of the feature is to give viewers a quick impression of what the game has to offer.

Played the demo, was the most boring 5 minutes of my life. Even with 4 players I can see it becoming a MUA style frenzy without the fun or variety. Apparently its real short too...

I dunno what it was it just seemed a little simple to me, judging from the control scheme im pretty sure the game doesnt get much deeper than mashing the X button.

Respectfully, when there are recommendations for other titles and commentary on the games value it is a review. The commentary is misleading in the aspect that it talks about the game as though the opinions formed were based off of the game’s entirety, not just the demo.

I'm basing my opinion on the contents of the demo, which is what the demo is there for. Every consumer that tries the demo will form opinions about it. The only difference here is that my opinions are on video. I'm sorry you interpreted my tone to mean that I'd played the whole game. I certainly never said I had.
Also, it's established here that these aren't reviews. I'm not going preface every video by saying that it's not a review. I suppose I could add a disclaimer to the post (which David Hinkle does with VC in Brief. http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vc-in-brief).
Again, the idea is simply to give people a glimpse at the game without having to download the trial themselves. Not everyone downloads every trial game, and these videos are for them.

Havoc you seem to be basing what you say on journalistic professionalism. Theoretically you are right. This is Joystiq however and they are bloggers that rarely have an original story that wasn’t reported someplace else first. Very little they do is to be taken seriously. The reason that it is not mentioned in the video that is based on the is because it makes Joystiq look like more of a credible a news source than it really is off of the first glance.

Because that is what you are holding Richard to for expressing his IMPRESSIONS of a DEMO. It makes absolutely no sense. If you want 2-page game reviews with stars and numbers that read like Wikipedia articles infused with vague shades of opinion, you are at the wrong site, sir. But if you DO want to read Joystiq's full-scale game reviews, then why not read Joystiq's...game...reviews. You know, the features on this site NOT called "Impressions" and "XBLA in Brief."
@realgmr: Yeah, you're totally right. Blogs like Joystiq have absolutely NO journalistic integrity. I mean, refusing to accept gifts from companies? If you said that you watched the TRAILER then the person that you are presenting your opinion to understands that you are not basing your opinions on the complete product. It is the journalist’s/video maker’s responsibility to make sure that this is understood by their reader/viewer to maintain journalistic credibility.
A “review” does not necessarily mean that a grade or a score is given based on the opinion of the reviewer. You can review anything that you experience because a review is just an account of a persons personal opinions and impressions. The video fails to reference that the opinions expressed are based on the demo and not the whole game. And because of that the opinions in the video of value or “fun factor” are of no merit. How can someone say that a game isn’t worth a price or another game is better if they haven’t experienced both products completely? If there was any kind of disclaimer anywhere that the opinions expressed were from a demo, the entry/blog/video/whatever you wish to call it would be taken for what it is, a review of a demo.
Maybe you should follow your own advice and “at least do some thinking before you open your mouth and demonstrate to everyone that you have no fucking clue what you're talking about.” because right now to anyone that has two brain cells to rub together you look like a retard.

And, at least in this case, are you trying to make an argument that the rest of the TMNT game is going to be much more evolutionary than the actual demo, so it would be unfair to judge the game based on this? This demo seems to give away the majority of the gameplay and mechanic. Not to mention the fact that it's a remake of an OLD game that Richard (and others) have already played. WYSIWYG.
I can see the argument being made about judging other games unfairly by the demo (e.g. 'Splosion Man, since the demo is easy but the actual game wicked), but this is a good example of a demo representing 99% of what you'll find in the actual game.
In any case, my comments about you not knowing what you're talking about were aimed at you claiming grave things about Joystiq and its writers without any basis, such as that they lack journalistic integrity and/or just rehash other peoples' content.
Finally, please don't be ignorant and hateful and use the R-word.

But, he isn’t giving brief impressions of a XBLA game, he is giving his impressions of a demo. Throughout the video he refers to what he is basing his opinions on as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled” which he is not doing. You want to argue in Joystiq terms while I am discussing journalistic integrity. It would have been very different if Richard had started the video saying “This is Richard Mitchell for Jostiq.com and XBLA in Brief and this week we are looking at THE DEMO OF Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled.”
Your argument is that demos (at least this one) leave a real impression of the entire game with the player and that because they played the old arcade version they can forgo playing the actual game based on their knowledge of the original. Really? That is termed "yellow journalism" which means that it is over sensationalized, based on little to no fact, and/or written or produced simply to attract readers or viewers. Even if a demo shows off a game's mechanics it is still not representative of the entire game, and thus commentary that references the game in entirety, value, or comparisons with other titles would be irrelevant and unwarranted.
Jostiq is not itself a news source, it is a blog. They do rehash other people's content. My claims about it’s writers do have basis. A “journalist” even when reporting a story that is covered elsewhere verifies the details with the source of the story before relating their opinions and details, otherwise they relate the story in it’s context from the outlet source while refraining from adding their own twists. A journalist takes the time to make sure that their audience is getting accurate information. I hate to break this to you, but Joystiq isn’t the begin all, end all of video game journalism. It is simply a blog where they gather news from other blog, news, and magazine sites. That itself is fine because it is a collection of stories in one place and has a purpose, but Joystiq is really starting to try to make itself out to be something it isn’t. If it wants to run with the big dogs, the writers need to understand that they have to play by the big dog rules or they will get eaten.

I'm torn on the game. I was brought up with TMNT games but this, this isn't the Turtles in Time I remember. New graphics, new music... I thought we were supposed to playing this for nostalgia purposes. If you take out all of the nostalgia and just hand me a boring TMNT beat 'em up with some shiny graphics, I don't think I'm going to hand you $10.

Personally, I'm going to hold off on this game. If I end up buying all the other Summer of Arcade games (already bought Splosion Man and will definitely buy Shadow Complex), then I'll pick this one up, since it will essentially be free with the 800 point promotion. Otherwise, I'm not sure this one is worth my $10.
Also, I wish that the people who obviously don't like Joystiq would stick to trolling on the websites they do like.

Keep mind when you say rarely an original story that was not reported somewhere else first, that most news breaking or not is reported some where else also. Just because you hear a story in two or more places does not mean one is orginal and the other is not. We get our news from CNN among other national broacast stations that often report the same information. However the reason we go back to the same source is becuase of the connection we have with the people reporting. We feel a connection because we share similar opinions or we simply like what they have to say over the other guy. You are entiltled to your opinion of bloggers but to say they are not professional journalist simply becuase you heard same or similar news somewhere else first, then happen upon the same story at Joystiq is unfair. Who is to say the other site did not get their story from Joystiq....

I absolutely love the original game, but something about this remake seems soulless. Maybe it's the visuals, I don't know. The magic just isn't there. Could be better in multiplayer, the original sure was.

ok, I guess I'll be one of the many to say it. This game is former "shell" of it's glorious self. Yay microsoft, you didn't fuck over marvel vs capcom with those ridicuously updated graphics (come one, you know they'd cause bugs) but seriously, this is simply unforgivable. Nothing in this remake makes any fucking sense. For god's sake that boss in one vid doesn't even look like a turtle anymore. Stick to the REAL classics and get the original arcade game on live. And go find yourselves your snes and head straight to ebay and do yourselves a favor to play the real version of this classic. And yes, I am surprised at ubisoft. They usually don't screw up this bad.
And that folks is my (late80's)/ 90's rant. Long live the greatest laziest time period in existence!!!!
