Section 8 demo slams onto Xbox Live
We liked what we saw of the game at GDC, and now everyone can get their hands on the game, thanks to a demo that just dropped (geddit?) onto Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo allows players to try out the game's multiplayer mode. It's similar to Battlefield, in which points are earned by performing team objectives, only with a twist. The objectives aren't determined by game type, but pop up dynamically during gameplay. One minute you might be disrupting an enemy caravan, and another you could be escorting a VIP to your base.
Check out the video above for a quick explanation, then download the demo and give it a try.
[Thanks, scott!]

Game looks fun.

Hot dropping of vehicles and other upgrades was on the game "The Outfit" that no one bought in 2006. Not saying it won't work in this game, but it doesn't automatically make the game great.

ODST drop pods FTW

Could they try any harder to copy Halo?
McWilly @ Aug 21st 2009 2:30PM
The game is nothing like Halo (with the exception of the drop ins). You'd know this if you played it.

Actually, the demo does feel a LOT like Halo. The demo map felt like it could be a Halo map, the graphics style is similar, similar setting, etc. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not saying it in a bad way. I'm not saying they're ripping off Halo. It just has a Halo feel, which has actually spiked my interest in this game. I am suddenly very excited to see how it turns out. I thought the demo was really fun.

Could you be any more snarky?
domo @ Aug 21st 2009 4:22PM
Hell yes.

It looks like a HALO mod to me... I wouldn't spend any money on it.

It's more like a weird fusion of Quake Wars and some elements from Tribes, but it's really fun. The learning curve is enormous though, and I still barely have a handle on the mission system.

Try the instant action mode and just listen really closely to the voice over. Helped me a lot.
Shadsy @ Aug 21st 2009 3:57PM
I was playing the PC version, and when the voice-over popped up, I was in the middle of combat and couldn't hear anything. :(

OMG! I just spend this morning playing the demo on Xbox and the game its just awesome! I just love the burn in and how i can choose where i spawn and the customization for players its just nice. The game feels nothing like halo. You guys should really give this a try.

I'm on the PC beta... I played it once for about an hour and haven't played it since. It's pretty meh...

It's nice that they are focusing on games for government funded housing.

It's okay, this game should have servers instead of pier to pier hosting because the lag is appauling; the only time I could get a decent game was in the bot-only matches.
Shreedhan @ Aug 23rd 2009 6:36AM
Tried it a few times, don't like it, not my thing personally.
