XBLA Perfect Dark makes original look like an N64 game

Ever since it was announced that Rare's spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007 for N64, Perfect Dark, was coming to Xbox Live Arcade, we've been wondering if it would simply see a bump in resolution (which it is). Now we also know that it's going to feature brand-new, high-detail textures and something the original release definitely didn't have: a fast, stable framerate.
Click on the above image to get an even better look at the improvements (and check the accompanying gallery for another impressive comparison shot). It's no Perfect Dark Zero, but it's still great to see the extra effort being put in for our precious Microsoft Points.

Great news. This was KEY for the success of this title. As much nostalgia as people have for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, the framerate would have been a dealbreaker even for longtime fans once they saw it again, never mind younger gamers.
Hopefully they leave the texture looks as close to the originals as possible, albeit with higher resolutions obviously.

Do I need the expansion pak to play this?
WarriorX62 @ Aug 21st 2009 6:36PM
yes you do, sell your "hey you pickachu" controller and buy one!
Arctrick @ Aug 21st 2009 6:43PM
Awww... I just recently bought the N64 version. But I don't have the expansion pak so this is nice

Well, what I want to know is will I finally be able to use my gameboy camera to put my face on a character??? Seriously, we are talking about the future of video games here people, this feature is needed! Who knows, maybe this is the first step to customizable characters for every game...and MOTION CONTROLLERS!!! Oh, can you smell the times a comin?

Well at least they are giving us some real visual upgrades instead of saying “now it’s in HD” and slapping a 1200 points price tag on it like they did with the Banjo games. Right I'm off to play Rez HD and Ikaruga, you remember those Dreamcast ports that cost 800 points.

I've played Perfect Dark on an emulator, which has 60 FPS and AA'ed graphics.
The difference it makes is tremendous.

This is going to be awesome to play again updated.

This is great and all, but I wish they would come out with another PDZ or .. cough am I the only one that liked Kameo.
Haohmaru (PSN - DimmuBurgerKing XBL - A Real Puppet ) @ Aug 22nd 2009 9:52AM
Nope. Kameo was a great, underappreciated game.

I think your clever meme went right over everyones head...

If they released this, why were they not alowed to release Goldeneye? I WANT GOLDENEYE DAMMIT!
mIKE THE DAMNED MAN @ Sep 4th 2009 5:33PM
don't get me wrong, goldeneye was sweet. but this game was on another level.
Christopher Mitrione @ Aug 22nd 2009 11:10AM
Randy.. PD Zero was a Bratz game with guns. It should have NEVER been made. I think it's funny that Rare made AAA games for Nintendo.. but when they got bought by Microsoft, they started churning out crap.
Xanto @ Aug 22nd 2009 1:08PM
Does that mean I can re-create N-Bomb only matches and the game won't slow to a crawl?
rahmenxnoodles69 @ Aug 22nd 2009 3:46PM
And why didn't Banjo-Kazooie or Tooie get upgraded graphics and textures? Ugh.. I never even got into PD so this means nothing to me -_-
rahmenxnoodles69 @ Aug 22nd 2009 3:49PM
Nevermind, I just did some thinking about that. Obviously a graphical update of BK or BT would infuriate fans unless it was a top notch, BK: Nuts & Bolts quality overhaul. BK fans would accept nothing less. But I'm still holding my breath for a new BK and BT and a TRUE third game in the series, none of that vehicle nonsense :]

I played Perfect Dark so much I memorized the single-player levels while trying to beat it on the Perfect difficulty (at least the name of the setting was apt). I'm definitely looking forward to this version, if only to see how much muscle memory I've retained from all that work the first time(s) around :)
