360 hits 700K down under, Microsoft aiming for a million
Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 has sold 700,000 in the land of g'days and kiwis, with the green eye of the console fixing its gaze on a million sales by Christmas. According to Gamespot, the company's manager for Australia and New Zealand labeled the console as the fastest growing in the region -- not dissimilar to statements made by US execs about their own region.
The company didn't hint at any price or console changes for the Xbox 360 in the region. Execs are "confident" that they'll reach the million goal with the "console's current price point."

Dude... Kiwis are from New Zealand. Rookie mistake.
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 26th 2009 11:22AM
im sure they import kiwi fruit to Australia too
Paul @ Aug 26th 2009 11:36AM
New Zealand is considered down under as well. rookie.
Arnie @ Aug 26th 2009 11:39AM
I think it refers to the bird and not the fruit. In fact, the cricket team are called the Kiwis also.
Paul @ Aug 26th 2009 11:44AM
it refers to the fact that OZ and NZ are two different countries that are considered down under. not just OZ
Tel Prydain @ Aug 26th 2009 5:27PM
Our cricket team is the 'White Caps'. Kiwi is just a generic slang team for any New Zealander (like Yank is an American, Aussies are Australians and so forth).
For what it's worth, there are a few things that could get sales up down here.
Firstly they could make the games cheaper (rather then $50-$60, games here are $65-$95usd).
2nd - Make comunity games avalable down here. We can make them, publish them, but not buy them? WTF?!
3rd - Movies. Music. Here. Now.
Lastly - Seriously. Fix the price of games.

I didn't even read the article to see that they refer to NZ. Rookie mistake. I am shamed.

Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 26th 2009 11:46AM
Or included Outback Steakhouse gift cards with purchase.
JUNG GUNS @ Aug 26th 2009 11:50AM
This entire thread is seriously hilarious.
blazinsmokey @ Aug 26th 2009 11:50AM
not sure if they have Outback Steakhouses in the Outback....always thought it was a US thing.
svale @ Aug 26th 2009 12:21PM
For the record, Outback Steakhouse's cuisine isn't even remotely Australian. I'd go so far as to say that their adoption of an Australian theme is an offense to the country and its cuisine.
Paul @ Aug 26th 2009 12:46PM
I wouldn't say an offensive, but more along the lines of....completely unrelated to anything australian.
Simon @ Aug 26th 2009 12:22PM
Let me assure you Paul, that New Zealand is not considered 'Down Under" by either Australians or New Zealand. They are two completely different countries.
And a Kiwi would not like to be considered as someone from "Down Under". They have their own, very proud indigenous history from South Pacific islands (Samoa Tonga etc) plus British colonization.
Paul @ Aug 26th 2009 12:30PM
I used to live in both countries:|
both are most certainly considered downunder... NZ not as much, but it def still is.
ChomskyKnows @ Aug 26th 2009 12:17PM
Why the hell do they call women "sheilas"? Where the hell did that come from?

By the way, it's pretty rare hearing that term thrown about down under these days.
