GRAW and Splinter Cell: Double Agent infiltrate Games on Demand
Grab your night-vision goggles and strap on your Kevlar, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Splinter Cell: Double Agent have been added to Xbox Live's Games on Demand service. While GRAW is available in nearly all Xbox Live regions, Splinter Cell: Double Agent is only available to (most) European Xbox Live users. Prices vary by region, but we're confident in saying that no matter where you live, the asking price is probably too high for games that launched in 2006.

Yeah, G.R.A.W. was $29.99 on XBL. They need to get these down to bargain prices. Would you rather have a 1st gen title or one from last year at that price? It was a great game.. but that should be $14.99 by now. $19.99 tops!

"no matter where you live, the asking price is probably too high for games that launched in 2006"
Indeed

Honestly I would buy a game on demand, but I'm just waiting for one I haven't owned or played yet....or want to own.....

This is my main beef with Games on Demand, the games are priced to NOT sell. Why pay $30.00 bucks for a 2006 game when you can buy it for 8 bucks used at GameStop? Plus, at GameStop, you can trade it in later OR return for a full refund within 7 days (on used games). With Games on Demand, you are stuck with your purchase forever.
At Amazon, the same game is 13 bucks BRAND NEW (shipping included). And again, after you are done with it, you can return it for a trade to GameStop.
I am sure if I hit the bargain bin at Wal-Mart or Target, I will find the same low prices on the same game.
Games on Demand is pricing itself right out of the market. Makes no sense, especially when you consider that the game is direct from the publisher and did NOT have to be burned, printed, packaged and shipped. With any non-game software publishers, the download version is ALWAYS cheaper than the packaged version. Dunno why this is different with Games on Demand (especially if they want to push games from 2006 on us).
What would really make Games on Demand take off AND put some real money in the developers' bank would be to have NEW releases hit Games on Demand at the exact same time as the store shelves, but at a slightly cheaper price. This way, there is a dual benefit. 1 - The gamer pays a cheaper price on a new release and 2 - The publisher has more to gain because Games on Demand games cannot be taken back to GameStop as a trade in for someone else to buy. This would create a shortage of GameStop "used" inventory and that would equate to greater, new, retail sales of the games.
No one wants games that are years old and over priced. Wake up XBLive and smell what you are shoveling cuz it stinks.

Even if they were the same price, it would work better for new games. Especially if they do what Steam does and let you "preload" a new title before release; downloading the (locked) game before release day, and then at midnight, the game unlocks and is immediately playable, thus avoiding a very long wait. Now that is convenience.

exactly
its all basics of economics..
the higher the price, the less people want it
unfortunately for microsoft, their prices are WAY to high
personally i think they'd get the most profit if the priced it at $20 since original xbox titles are $15 (which ought to be more like $10)

Who is demanding _these_ games?
Dakar @ Sep 3rd 2009 11:21AM
If you read the interview Joystiq did last week, MS pretty much states they're charging this much for the convenience of not having to get up off the couch.
Honestly, I think they're just targeting fools who don't know any better. I'm sure the process of making a title GoD ready is so cheap that even if these barely sell, its pure profit and they don't alienate GameStop by undercutting them. Win/win. Well, for everyone but the consumer.

"If you read the interview Joystiq did last week, MS pretty much states they're charging this much for the convenience of not having to get up off the couch."
If that is their thinking, then they should at least put new releases up and charge an extra 5-10 bucks for it. No one wants this old game garbage they are offering up.
Dakar @ Sep 3rd 2009 11:41AM
Having new releases on there would fall under "antagonizing GameStop."

I already have DA. There's no way I'm paying 30 for GRAW. I saw it up 2 days ago, and I was getting ready to buy it, but I ain't paying 30. That makes about 5 games I passed on because they were overpriced. And I'm not going to gamestop to get them either. So your loss MS. They'll be 20 one day, and I'll be there, waiting.
Brian @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:39PM
Or I could go to Gamestop and get them for about $10 each.
What a rip.
Brian @ Sep 3rd 2009 12:46PM
Oh yeah, except they're both 30 year old games that everyone already owns or has owned anyway.
Oorang @ Sep 3rd 2009 1:07PM
Lets have new releases listed on GoD at retail prices. I'd seriously think about those for download. Screw retail stores...
Charging £20 for these ancent titles is extortion. They should have been 1500 points or thereabouts.
Oh dear Microsoft...sometimes you are so so dumb.
