NFL jerseys hit Avatar Marketplace, wallets
($4) a pop on the Avatar Marketplace. Just for comparison, national soccer (or football for most of the world) jerseys are ... oh, that's right, they're free. Most licensed game shirts sell for 80
($1). We can only imagine the extra $3 in this case gets divided up between the NFL, the teams, EA and the Coalition for Expensive Avatar Clothing. It wouldn't be quite so bad if purchasers could actually pick their jersey number, instead of feeling like a total zero.

waste of money the jerseys look like crap also
TruMayheM @ Oct 8th 2009 4:59PM
might I also mention I can't wait until I can buy night vision goggles for my avatar... ugh
Soge @ Oct 8th 2009 3:55PM
They could have atleast put the 10 from the game on the shirts.
320 for this shit ..... lol
Paul @ Oct 8th 2009 3:55PM
i would just like to point out that you do NOT get to pick the number on the jersey and i think the nameplate on the back is just blank or says whatever ea/microsoft/nfl wants it to. rather than, say, your gamertag. just making sure you guys realize how bad this price is when you think about how much they could have done.
Paul @ Oct 8th 2009 5:08PM
a football jersey would be a perfect avatar award if microsoft/game developers would ever implement them. these jerseys are obviously from EA who makes madden. the award could be you play with a particular team in madden and lead them through a season and go on to win the superbowl. boom avatar jersey unlocked. and not many people are going to want to play a whole season with another team just to get their jersey so its not just an easy avatar award. just a thought....
Gary @ Oct 8th 2009 8:15PM
if you have an ea sports world account and ever check it, you'd see you get some sports world avatar items for various things (i haven't played madden since 08, but all their sports games do it, like you get a scarf in FIFA for having an undefeated manager mode season. special boots if a striker on your team scored the most goals in a MM season...stuff like that). so the idea is already there. idk why EA can't just move it from their sports world avatar, to the xbox avatar....
geniusaxy @ Oct 8th 2009 5:48PM
They are pricey, I want to choose my number... But gosh.... I have been wanting a Cowboys jersey... Couldn't resist. I hate myself.
Ryan @ Oct 8th 2009 3:57PM
These are awful. Why couldn't they have just offered shirts with the team's logo on the front? Instead, these all just look like different colored shirts with "00" on the front.
dru @ Oct 8th 2009 3:59PM
For $4 you should at the very least be able to pick the number of the player you want.
Who the fuck wants to wear '00'?! Would anyone buy that jersey in real life? No.
Prox @ Oct 8th 2009 4:01PM
The number on the front is constantly updated to show the percentage of purchasers who are not morons.
Perno @ Oct 8th 2009 4:03PM
I'm ashamed to admit I purchased my Chicago Bears avatar jersey no more than 2 minutes after Major Nelson announced they were available. It's sitting in my queue waiting to be downloaded after work. Bear Down!!!
This coming from a guy that almost never buys ANYTHING on the marketplace, almost no DLC, maybe 2 XBLA games...I just love to show the team pride. Well playe NFL marketing...well played.
Perno @ Oct 8th 2009 4:45PM
Hey it's the truth. I had tons of MS points because I got a bunch when I bought Halo 3 at Best Buy, and still haven't used them....Go Bears!
Dr.House @ Oct 9th 2009 2:44AM
Obligatory since you're a Bears fan:
Skol Viking!
xbox420king @ Oct 9th 2009 12:58PM
I got me a 49ers one. Its good not being cheap!
Rhamsey @ Oct 8th 2009 4:04PM
Yeah, I saw this and was excited, than noticed the price and said fuck that.
haukke @ Oct 8th 2009 4:04PM
i was not going to buy them but now i want to feel like a zero.i might just buy them all for both my accounts.let microsoft and ea know how much i appreciate them.besides a bought both remote controlled cars twice.
ChuckJ @ Oct 8th 2009 4:05PM
LOL
Unless your are filthy rich, some people really need to think about what they spend their money on. You should care where your money is going. ALl these micro-transactions add up.
I wont tell you how to spend your money, but I will give my opinion on what I think of these type of purchases. I will NOT spend $4 on electronic clothing. That is just ridiculous. Who even looks at other peoples Avatars? Honestly, do YOU even sit there and stare at your Avatar admiring their looks or clothing or anything else?
YEs, it is only $4 but a complete waste of money. Especially if you bust your balls for a living to earn it. To put money toward something you cant do a thing with is irresponsible and silly.
haukke @ Oct 8th 2009 4:05PM
i want to be that moron.
Delirium @ Oct 8th 2009 4:07PM
Wow, this is the biggest blatant rip-off yet. At the very, very, VERY least they could have picked a number of a player that's popular like Peyton Manning or Troy Polamalu but instead we get a generic '00'. Not only that but it's a very basic jersey.
DarkZephix @ Oct 8th 2009 4:36PM
Thank God... now my NFL Themed clan now can all wear their jerseys! If anyone wants in let me know... we have around 30 guys and will have 50 when MW2 is released
I know I will get mine... Go Patriots
My Gamertag = XFL Brady12
8BitAvenger @ Oct 8th 2009 4:17PM
Totally stupid.
JUNG GUNS @ Oct 8th 2009 4:21PM
If there was ever something worth paying for, this is it. All haters shut the fuck up if you don't like the cost then don't buy one just like everything else in life.
GO CHIEFS!!
JUNG GUNS @ Oct 8th 2009 4:31PM
the people complaining are the ones buying the RC warthogs and light sabers for $5. if you are truly a fan of a football team then $4 to represent that to your friends/family/xbox live is a bargain. Also, dumbasses, if you could put numbers on them(jerseys) then that would infringe on the players likenesses and they too would have to be compensated, sending the price even higher. In addition, the NFL would never allow the disgusting gamertags on XBL to be displayed on an NFL jersey.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Oct 8th 2009 4:21PM
They added these to Home as well...I wont buy any on either of them....really is just a blatant waste of money
I Are ODST @ Oct 8th 2009 4:22PM
Wow....Wtf is wrong with Microsoft? Dont they realize that they're just making themselves look like even bigger money consuming whores!?
uncle jesse @ Oct 8th 2009 4:55PM
Or are Xbox owners making themselves look like even bigger retards because they keep buying this crap?
I Are ODST @ Oct 8th 2009 7:33PM
Wow. Fanboy Alert.
uncle jesse @ Oct 9th 2009 1:44PM
Nope. Actually, I own all three consoles and like my 360 the best. Just making a point that people are obviously buying this junk and that is the reason they price it as such. Judging by your name, it looks like you are the fanboy.
Look at my post below, I just said that I wanted NHL jerseys. But if they are that expensive (most likely) and look as crappy as these ones do then there's no point.
I Are ODST @ Oct 9th 2009 2:25PM
Oh sorry. I sorta took you calling xbox owners retards wrong I guess.
Bravo6 @ Oct 8th 2009 4:22PM
Sweet, I hope they come out with new ones next year that are basically the same thing for the same price!
uncle jesse @ Oct 8th 2009 4:53PM
I want a NHL jersey for my Edmonton Oilers!
These "jerseys" look like American Eagle shirts. 00. Seriously?
CDN Crockett @ Oct 8th 2009 6:53PM
Well you know in the 'free' wardrobe there was the American Football jersey and then they add Baseball and World Football jersey.
Well my question is when are they going to add the 2 Canadian sports!!!
HOCKEY and
BASKETBALL (yes basketball is Canadian)
I want a free Xbox hockey jersey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stinger503 @ Oct 8th 2009 10:39PM
Don't forget about CFL ;)
whylekat @ Oct 10th 2009 4:25AM
And they have every team but America! WTF.
George McBain @ Oct 8th 2009 4:55PM
Well, if they get some NHL jerseys up, I would probably get a Flyers one :(
Razoso @ Oct 8th 2009 5:06PM
I have never bought avatar clothing and never will. This stuff is stupid, I'll save my money for a real jersey. Maybe a nice new Micheal Crabtree jersey now that he signed :) Go Niners!
Brady @ Oct 8th 2009 5:20PM
I saw these and was so excited, I bought one before even looking at the price. After realizing what I had just done, I feel like such a tool.
NeoK-182 @ Oct 8th 2009 5:21PM
the price is mainly because the NFL/EA are assholes when it comes to pricing.
The lack of players names/numbers can be blamed on the players union, which probably demanded money for each one of their jerseys sold, which would of knocked them up to $5 a piece.
NeoK-182 @ Oct 8th 2009 5:23PM
and a side note. The price is pretty bad, but i'd pay that money for a jersey. However the 00 is fucking stupid. If i could pick a number and it could somehow show my gamertag on the back i'd go for it.
Doug @ Oct 8th 2009 5:57PM
I am stupid but not this stupid.
RedSonRising @ Oct 8th 2009 6:54PM
im waitin to see if theyre gonna do nba jerseys for Live or 2k10.. i want an eagles jersey too but at the moment im more interested in the mass effect items than nfl stuff..
ive bought so much avatar stuff its ridiculous.. but im still not stupid
Clayton Forrester @ Oct 8th 2009 7:11PM
I would guess the reason the European national team jerseys were free was because they weren't authentic but knock-offs with country flags on them. As for these NFL jerseys total misss, they should have sold the helmets. NFL jerseys are not that distinct in my opinion. If anything hopefully this means we will be getting soccer club jerseys sometime after FIFA is shipped to North America. I wonder if they do sell those if the sponsers will be on them?
Nick @ Oct 8th 2009 7:53PM
They're considering charging for special avatar dances, nothing is surprising on Marketplace anymore.
yolarrydabomb @ Oct 8th 2009 8:12PM
I was going to throw up.
WHAT THE HELL MICROSOFT????
blue69corvet @ Oct 8th 2009 10:34PM
Fuck you Microsoft, Fuck you.
blazinsmokey @ Oct 8th 2009 10:56PM
wow. for another couple dollars i could just go buy a t-shirt that says EAGLES on it.
and for the girls? why the hell should they get a jersey. give them a cheerleading outfit and pom poms.
GewurztraminerX @ Oct 9th 2009 10:03AM
I suppose with the 'buy points with your VISA' deal they had going on that gives you 300 points for free I could almost justify getting one...
But even then, I think 160-200 max would be a more appropriate price for these.
Ryan @ Oct 9th 2009 1:05PM
The fat 00 is a dealbreaker for me. I've always said since they implemented Avatars, that if they released an Adrian Peterson jersey for a few bucks, I'd buy it right away. But the 00 looks hideous.
mega_hertz_99 @ Oct 9th 2009 4:15PM
I would encourage everyone to NOT buy this so maybe Microsoft / EA will get the point that we're not as stupid as they would like to think we are. REAL football jerseys are overpriced t-shirts and I guess since they figure people will buy 'em in the real world, why not overcharge for a digital version with NO CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS...
