Epic prepping TU5 for Gears of War 2

Cheaters beware! Epic's Rod Fergusson recently popped into the Gears forums to let everyone know that Gears of War 2's fifth Title Update is currently in the works and will hit Xbox Live sometime soon. The new update will not only add some new features to the game -- no more "sticky walk" and you'll be able to see friendly grenade plants in Tac/Com -- but will also put an end to a rather nasty cheating hack that surfaced shortly after TU4. Cheating in Gears -- who'da thunk it?

We'll be sure to let you know when the TU5 is available.

Sounds good, but i hope they fix smoke grenades. Its really lame when they make a person defenseless and unable to defend themselves.

Hold on... how many title updates has Halo 3 had?! 2? 3?

I'm gonna say this is a problem with the engine running GOW 1 or 2.

Naw, I'd say it is much more of a problem directly related to GoW2 rather than the Unreal 3 engine. Unreal 3 being used by a shit-ton of other games, many of which are very stable when it comes to this kind of thing.

If this were an engine update, every game would be getting an update that used the engine.

This is a TITLE update. Smoke grenades, maps, weapons... these are all Gears of War specific (i.e. TITLE specific).

Since launch Halo has only had 2 title updates

Since launch Gears 2 will now have 5 title updates

I'm glad they have given so much post release support to Gears 2, I just wish there wasn’t so many issues with the game when it shipped. The updates have focused a lot on Horde Mode which is great for me because it's the only Gears 2 multiplayer mode I actually like, I've never thought the Gears gameplay lends itself well to competitive multiplayer.

Horde mode is OK but it's the same shit over and over every 10 rounds. I know that can be said about ANY of the multiplayer but it really is.

For some, the 5 vs. 5 mode is just a complete clusterfuck, and I agree, especially when people are stacking the teams or you meet assholes that thrive off the misery of others (and they're on your team).

I suggest trying the Wingman mode. I've been playing GoW2 since launch and only in the past 2 months have I played Wingman and now, it's the only mode I play.

5 teams of 2. It's a LOT more intimate (yeah, I said it) and team oriented. 2 vs. 2 vs. 2 vs. 2 vs. 2 is just plain fun as shit, ESPECIALLY if you communicate with your teammate.

Give it a try keeping in mind that some of the BEST people play this mode, so don't get discouraged without giving it a try!

Gears of War 1 (4TUs), but I guess it wasn't as mega-hyped as its sequel.

I'll be honest, something tells me had the game not been hacked (if you haven't seen the results of said hack check it out on youtube, its ridiculous) then I doubt we would see another TU for this game.

Halo may not get TUs, and yes its core gameplay functions way way way better than Gears, that game is still broken as far as a competitive multiplayer.

No, it definitely isn't. I'd love to give you an example, but I can't think of any. So for now, you're partially right. But I remember games that were horribly broken that I bought b/c of previews.

I get extremely frustrated when I play Gears 2. It's unlike any other game. I always feel like everything I can never do what I want. The changes from Gears 1 to Gears 2 are just too much for me. I used to play hours upon hours of Gears 1, but in Gears 2 I can't play a single round without regretting the decision.

It's sad because I absolutely loved Gears 1 and I though Gears 2's campaign was awesome up until the storyline dropped off after Dom finds his wife. I want so much to like the game, but I just can't enjoy it, no matter how hard I try.

**URGENT** NEED HELP!!!! My Xbox will not recognize any games in the disc drive I've tried everything. Does anyone have any suggestions?? It slowly started this over the past 2 days now it will not recognize any of my games.

Try one of those DVD cleaner disks? If that doesn't work, open your 360 take out the optical drive, hook it up to your pc, use jungleflasher to grab its key, order a replacement drive off ebay or just any other online replacements store, flash it with the original drive key, insert back into 360. BAM! problem fixed :)

Or send it back to MS (if your still covered by warranty) and wait a few weeks lol

the repair isnt covered under warranty or the RRoD program so it probably wont be free. call 1800 MY XBOX and keep talking till you get a supervisor that will approve a repair for an unreadable-disc drive error for less than the standard $100 fee.

i got my disc read error fixed for $50 a while back. you can fix it yourself but its risky if you connect to xbox live a lot: the system might think youve modded your console and theres a chance your xbox could be banned from XBL. permanently.

$50 isnt free but its the cheapest option you have. good luck.

This game needs to be faster, guns sound great, but every gun has a delay, not saying the needs to be like gears 1 but gears 1 was fun, exciting, and had battles full of action. In gears 2 my player feels like hes having a heart attack hes so slow and some maps are just to big for no reason. Games are supposed to be fun and I here more complaining about the game than anything else. The gears 2 multilayer needs to be redone period, instead of putting band aids on gears 2 rent a body cast, wit all this being said you might as well wait until gears 3, If ain't broke don't fix it and this game is broken.

Are we supposed to be thankful for this or something? Seriously, EPIC. Just give the fuck up. You rushed, you failed, you shipped a broken game. I would only advise you to not do it again. Gears 3 better work when it comes out. It's absolutely disgusting you've gotten to the pitch where people are saying thank you for the latest TU...like it's some sort of extra service you're providing. Don't fuck up again.
