Avatar Halloween costumes have scary prices
In the spirit of the season, Microsoft has released some Halloween costumes for Avatars. There's quite a spooky selection to choose from, including ghosts, cowboys, werewolves, vampires, wizards, witches and Frankenstein's monster. For good measure, Microsoft even threw in a skeleton and a mummy. All of the outfits cost 240
($3), but you'll need to pay another 80
($1) if your outfit of choice features a hat.
Perhaps the most frightening of all is the male Sheriff's outfit. It's something about the combination of the incredibly tight fit, coupled with the standard, effeminate Avatar pose. It just don't look right.

If I'm buying a sheriff's costume, you best be giving me a hat with it. $3 bucks for the costume and another dollar for the hat alone?!
Who the hell dresses up as a sheriff without a hat?! So angry!
joeybeast @ Oct 15th 2009 11:44AM
Or just get the hat.
uncle jesse @ Oct 15th 2009 11:51AM
If I had the option of stripping my avatar down to nothing but his socks and then just wearing a cowboy hat, I might actually consider it.

There are 2 cowboy hats in the free clothing section, where you add clothes to your avatar. I thought one would work to make a replica of Dizzy, with a COG suit and one of those hats. But yeah those prices are high. If its not licensed clothing it should be free.

There are 2 free cowboy hats in the clothing section already (sorry, I haven't changed my avatar since creating it so I don't know what's in there to choose from) and they are charging a dollar for another one? That doesn't even make sense.
I agree with you completely. Unlicensed items should definitely be free. I understand the appeal for big fans of Halo or Mass Effect, for example, to want to purchase some unique things that not everyone has. But if it's just a regular shirt or hat or something, it should be free. These costumes should be free.
I remember the free winter theme they gave out. That was cool. I was hoping they were going to do one for each season or special occasion... not so much.
joeybeast @ Oct 15th 2009 1:24PM
They should make your avatar shiver in winter.
Hey little buddy, I'll buy you a winter coat.
Attilazilla @ Oct 15th 2009 11:50AM
But at least he looks FABULOUS, right?

Wizard's robes finally available -- and they look like grandma's nightie. Bah!
a drunk amputee @ Oct 15th 2009 12:00PM
Does the ghost mask remind anyone else of the Gimp from Pulp fiction? Now if we had the colour change to black...
CyberKnight @ Oct 15th 2009 2:07PM
Yeah, I think if there were any question that we had seen the end of free clothes for your Xii, this just answered it.
CyberKnight @ Oct 15th 2009 2:08PM
Whoa, reply fail. Could've sworn I hit the link by Prox's comment below. :?
Prox @ Oct 15th 2009 12:02PM
Okay, I _guess_ I understand charging for NFL jerseys, Nike shoes, Halo shirts, etc. but SEASONAL clothes? C'mon now, you're just being jerks.
ChomskyKnows @ Oct 15th 2009 1:36PM
I agree. Unless it's a licensed product, I see no reason whatsoever why anyone should pay for this shit.
Arashikou @ Oct 15th 2009 7:41PM
I've seen several people say this around the web, and I was wondering if you could elaborate for the benefit of someone who genuinely doesn't understand: Why does whether it's licensed make a difference in whether it's fair to charge money for it?
FNG @ Oct 19th 2009 12:53PM
the cost of these is decided by the market. Obviously people are buying these things at the high cost otherwise the price would have come down. you can bitch all you want, but when these things continue to sell, why would they lower the prices for the 1000+ people who post on a gaming blog? get over it already. all you can do is not buy it. complaining about the high cost of an item that is selling VERY well is not going to matter at all.
RudyHuxtable @ Oct 15th 2009 12:17PM
No thanks.
Ample Salty @ Oct 15th 2009 12:59PM
Will all the racists buy the Ghost costume and pretend it's a KKK hood?
Ozzpot @ Oct 15th 2009 2:50PM
I expected there to be a set of Halloween clothing this year, but I did think it'd be free.
Given the amount of money we all spend every year on Xbox live membership, plus all the revenue Microsoft make from marketplace profits and such, I thought it'd be nice for them to give us a small gift on special occasions like this.
I'm not angry, as I know it costs money to make this stuff, but making it free would have been a nice gesture of thanks to us loyal fans, that's all. It's a little disappointing.
Mainer82 @ Oct 15th 2009 3:43PM
They may for Christmas. I'm tempted to purchase the alien head; I like this idea of holiday type clothing. I'm wondering what they may have for Thanksgiving?
Tep @ Oct 15th 2009 6:11PM
Well the people (not us with common sense that is) have shown that they are willing to pay for it, I doubt Microsoft is gonna go back on it now.
tranzparentl @ Oct 15th 2009 6:46PM
Damn I want that skeleton outfit so bad but c'mon. I would probably bite at $1.50
tim @ Oct 15th 2009 10:39PM
I wonder if that since the marketplace is now up if we will EVER get free stuff for our Avatars ever again.
These should have been free, if not cheaper.
incubeezer @ Oct 15th 2009 10:44PM
do avatar rewards count?
gregorry @ Oct 16th 2009 8:36AM
Just an idea, you can find e-card at Happy Halloween 2009 for halloween. This site allows for anyone to upload their own picture so they can send it out to friends and family with a message as a greeting on Halloween.
whylekat @ Oct 16th 2009 7:03PM
Seriously why are any of you jerks surprised?! The priceing was ridiculous from the begining and there's no stopping it. Even more soo every costume/outfit/uniform sold the helmet/hat seperatly. This is not news. It's rip off avatar micro transactions.
