Cheap Xbox Live Gold at Sears and Kmart this week [update: Starts Nov 18]

Update: Kmart and Sears have issued a correction. The sale begins November 18, not November 17.
Kmart and Sears have announced a special deal in celebration of the new Xbox Live Dashboard Update, which arrives this week. Starting November 17, the same day as the update, gamers can pick up discounted Xbox Live Gold subscription cards. Three-month cards are being knocked down from $20 to $15, while twelve-month cards are dropping from $50 to $35. Not a bad deal for gamers looking to get their online gaming on the cheap -- or those looking to give it to others for the holidays. The cards will be available only on the Sears and Kmart websites through November 21.

Just renewed for a year back in October...so I'll have to pass. Not a bad deal, though.
ytilanigiroon @ Nov 16th 2009 4:50PM
Couldn't you buy this and save it for your next renewal? AFAIK if you add this to your account it'll just pile on top of your existing membership. So if you have 10 months left you'll have 22 months left of gold membership.
joeybeast @ Nov 16th 2009 4:53PM
mine will expire in January. So if I redeem one of these cards, my subscription will automatically extend to next January, is that right?
ytilanigiroon @ Nov 16th 2009 5:05PM
yup. That's the way I've had it work. It's not like they truncate the months between when you add the months, and when your original time is due to expire. They could, anything is technically possible, but I've never experienced that.

I got a great deal on live cards a few years back, paid $30.00 for the 12 month Live kits, picked up two of them, added them to my account and it extended my service two years past my expiration date. Since then, I've picked up a card or two whenever they are on the cheap and add them to my account or give them out as gifts. Don't pass this deal up.

The 30 and 35 dollar 12 month deals will be rolling in soon with the holidays.

I got my 12+1 card January 17 this year for $29.99 (no tax - buy.com). Waitin for that one to drop, hopefully before Christmas instead of after.

Will you be able to buy this in store, or only online?
RedSonRising @ Nov 17th 2009 5:07AM
Yes.
jt2552 @ Nov 17th 2009 9:59AM
Is it just me or I'm not finding any of these deals at either Kmart or Sears?
BustedChain @ Nov 17th 2009 10:06AM
Either the deal is really well hidden, or it simply isn't live yet. I'll keep refreshing the Sears page and see if the price drops. I can't even find a 12 month card on Kmart's website.
Santini @ Nov 17th 2009 10:11AM
No, Sears seems like it still has the 12 month at $50 and the 3 month at $20, and I can't even find the 12 month on Kmart's site
whoismoses @ Nov 17th 2009 6:12PM
If you can't wait, Wal*Mart has it for $39.99
Phix @ Nov 18th 2009 8:47AM
It's still not on either site
whoismoses @ Nov 18th 2009 9:28AM
I'm sure it will be on sale on the 19th.
dakinle @ Nov 18th 2009 10:24AM
The deals are not showing up online and with all due respect to Richard Mitchell and Joystiq, this article doesn't link to any sources - not to the alleged initial announcement or anything to back up the "correction." Nor does it show any scans or copies of emails or press releases. The Sears site allows for real time chat with a rep and at least one rep has said that Joystiq must be misinformed, that no such sale exists. What gives?
BustedChain @ Nov 18th 2009 10:53AM
Very well put. Those were my exact same concerns. I checked Sears website again today and the price still hasn't dropped. Lovely. I hope we get another update to this article and this time with some sort of indication of source or evidence. Watch: They'll come back and say that the sale starts tomorrow.
Maybe the sale will start the 18th... but they didn't say what month and Joystiq assumed it meant this month. Maybe it will be the a18th of September, next year or the year after that. (I had a boss who would do that to us...he's say, sure you can have a raise on Sunday. But he would fail to say which Sunday.)

I'm not sure if this has been there long but I found a 12month XboxLive Gold subscription on Amazon for $39.00

shimshim84 @ Nov 18th 2009 6:14PM
it's the 18th and im at both site's...i dont see it
shimshim84 @ Nov 18th 2009 6:55PM
you have to chat with a person from sears or kmart.com to get it....i just did 34.99
BustedChain @ Nov 18th 2009 7:42PM
That worked for me. I talked to a lady on the phone with sears.com and she was able to lookup the item# in their internal product listings and found the sale price. She was able to adjust the price after the order has been placed. Their online website has not been updated yet, but the Sears.com rep was able to confirm the price and was able to adjust my order accordingly. She was very helpful and pleasant too which surprised me.
matt21_c @ Nov 18th 2009 10:50PM
Just called customer service is not having this sale
shimshim84 @ Nov 18th 2009 10:56PM
u can't call. it's online only
BustedChain @ Nov 19th 2009 1:05AM
I did call the sears.com at 1-800-697-3277 and I pushed the option to place a new order and I chose the electronics department. I talked to Suzzanne ID# 083779 from the Tucson AZ call center. I explained that I had heard about a sale price on the sears item# 05891866000 that was not showing up on their website. She checked the website and then she checked an internal database of some sort (something customers don't have access to) and she found that item number in her internal database with a promotion date of today (18th) through sometime in December (I don't remember the end date) with a price of $34.99. Since she found it in there, she had me place the order online and she credited back $15 per card that I ordered. There was a limit of 2 cards per order, so I placed two orders for a total of 4 cards. I received 2 credits back on my credit card of $30 each or a total of $60 off of 4 cards.
They have the promotional price in their system, it just isn't on the public website yet. If you get someone who is friendly/helpful and you are nice to them then you too can get these cards for $35+tax w/ free shipping.
So for those that called and failed to get the price honored, you didn't try hard enough or you just didn't get someone on the phone that felt like helping you, or something else caused you to not get the same service that I received.
Terror Tricks @ Nov 19th 2009 8:34AM
Seems to be working now, just ordered two.
Jeffy @ Nov 19th 2009 8:51AM
Website shows $35 now: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05891866000P
