First issue of Dead Space comic free to read online

Newsarama, Image Comics, EA and everyone else involved with producing the Dead Space comic have banded together in agreement to offer the series' first issue to Dead Space fanboys for FREE. Digitally though, of course. You can view the entire first issue of the Dead Space comic series over at Newsarama, flip through its digital pages and take in all $2.99 worth of content. But, you know, for free. Free things are always good.

Dead Space Demo dismembers XBLM

We realize that many of our readers have long since forgotten Halloween -- its memory having been replaced by slavering thoughts of turkey -- but that doesn't mean we have to forget about survival horror. In an effort to remind us -- and perhaps to push a few more copies out the door -- EA has released a demo for Dead Space onto the Xbox Live Marketplace (sorry, Gold members only, for now). The demo is vaguely referred to as a "Dismemberment Demo" and, frankly, we haven't the foggiest idea what that's about. And hey, check this out, thanks to the new online Marketplace at Xbox.com, we can do this:

Isaac set to bring Dead Space demo to XBLM

EA just informed us that a Dead Space demo will be releasing to the Xbox Live Marketplace this week. Specifically, Tuesday, November 25th. We're told that the demo will feature the use of both stasis and telekinesis abilities as well as four of Isaac Clarke's weapons-o-destruction. What we haven't been told is how long the demo will actually last or what levels will be included, so we'll have to wait until Tuesday to find out.

Our only question to EA is what took you guys so long? Shouldn't you be releasing a game demo when there's buzz a buzzing about your title? Hmm?

Dead Space DLC uses stasis on your wallet

Hey kids, just a quick reminder that a metric ton of DLC for Dead Space has been released to the Xbox Live Marketplace today. What kind of DLC you ask? Well, if some random skins and special suits and upgraded weapons suit your fancy, you're in luck. Actually, let us take that back. You're in luck if you like all those things and you'd like to pay for them. Some of the items are merely skins, while others will net you firearms with extra speed or power or fully upgraded suits. There's also a brand new gun up for download as well.

Technically, we suppose these aren't merely downloadable cheats, but they're pretty close. Find a full list of the new content after the break.

EA milks Dead Space with purchasable DLC

Later this week (November 13th to be exact), Dead Space will be receiving a bunch of downloadable content. Paid downloadable content that'll change the look and feel of your Dead Space gaming experience.

You can view the complete list of DLC after the break, which includes various armor and weapon content that ranges in price from 80 to 320 Microsoft points. We wish the content was free (like the Elite offering weeks back), but we have to let EA be EA and let them milk their Dead Space cash cow. Bleh.

EA boss says to expect more Mercenaries

According to EA boss John Riccitiello the Mercenaries series will see another installment. During an earnings call, Riccitiello confirmed that Mercenaries will join Dead Space and the upcoming Mirror's Edge as continuing franchises for the mega-publisher along with Will Wright's latest, Spore.

Released in late August, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has sold 1.9 million units across four platforms. Riccitiello made the announcement when asked if EA's recent releases were considered "sequelable" by the publisher -- who has posted a $310 million loss for its second quarter fiscal release. The EA CEO also stated that each of the mentioned titles were not likely to see annual releases.

X3F Impressions: Dead Space review

Way back (by internet standards) in September 2007 when EA announced a new space survival horror game game called Dead Space, we couldn't help but roll our eyes in expectation of mediocrity. But over the course of a year, things changed.

Over time, we heard more about its intriguing story, its gruesome dismemberment, stunning visuals and were introduced to the iconic look of main character Isaac Clarke. Suddenly, bloggers and reporters were coming out of E3 giving it praise and were actually excited for EA's survival horror game. That's when a sense of excitement spread as Dead Space's potential was realized. I'm proud to say that after playing through the entire Dead Space campaign, the game delivers a gaming experience as expected. But not based on those early, mediocre 2007 expectations. No, Dead Space delivers on the higher expectations that were set during E3, treating gamers to a solid survival horror experience as was promised.

Achievement hunter takes on Dead Space

Rooster Teeth's site all about achievements and the joy (or pain) they cause, Achievement Hunter just posted a new Dead Space video showing how you can earn both the "Marksman" and "Tool Time" achievements. The video walk-through (embedded above) demos how you can easily decapitate evil, blow off limbs, squish heads and earn yourself 15 Gamerscore in the process. Watch the vid and be sure to stay clear of those auto closing doors. They're equally deadly as the ones they install at Walmart stores.
