Fable 2 Heros can now wield Hal's Rifle

Word on the web is that Fable 2's recently released Knothole Island DLC comes packed with a certain Halo'riffic surprise that'll not only tickle your inner Master Chief fanboy, but will also aid in eliminating any and all Hobbes.

Available for trade at "The Box of Secrets" store is a new weapon that's, coincidentally enough, named Hal's Rifle. This new rifle weaponry looks a lot like the classic Halo Assault Rifle and its name, well ... it's kinda obvious what Lionhead is going for. Sporting a decent 59 damage per shot, a range of 50, 24 shots per clip and an augment slot, Hal's Rifle is a smart purchase. Especially for those who are sporting Fable 2's other Halo'tastic apparel.

Mirror's Edge DLC jumps on XBLM January 29

Good news, first person platforming fans, that brand new, runny, jumpy, crazy Mirror's Edge DLC is officially arriving on January 29. The downloadable content contains seven new time trial maps. As you may recall, the maps offer something a bit more abstract than the campaign. Go grab some brightly colored building blocks, pile them up together, make that pile explode, freeze that moment in time and you'll have an idea of what the new maps look like. You know, that or you could just look at the video after the break.

Oh, and the DLC, by the way, will cost 800 Microsoft Points.

Community Games devs still in the dark on sales figures

If you happen to be a developer for Microsoft's Community Games on the Xbox 360, our heart goes out to you. MTV's Multiplayer is reporting that since the Community Games service launched in November 2008, developers have yet to receive any sales information about their games. Thus far, the only official information available to the developers is the same information that's been released to the public, namely the top ten Community Games lists that Major Nelson compiles every week. As Multiplayer points out, knowing what rank a game is doesn't exactly tell the whole story without sales data: How many copies sold does it take to make number one? Thousands? Hundreds?

In response, Microsoft stated that the sales data will be available to Community Games developers via the XNA Creators Club website by March. Hopefully, Microsoft will see fit to release some information on the overall performance of Community Games in that time frame as well.

Indiana Jones rumored to be canceled, LucasArts still "committed"

IGN reports that multiple sources from within LucasArts and beyond have stated that all development on an upcoming X360/PS3 Indiana Jones game has been canceled. Our investigative sister-site, Joystiq, contacted LucasArts and it appears the situation isn't as clear-cut as rumors indicate.

"LucasArts remains absolutely committed to the Indiana Jones franchise," a representative for LucasArts told Joystiq. "While we are aware that fans have been eagerly awaiting additional information on the upcoming game, they can rest assured that details are forthcoming."

LucasArts is vague about the future of the game itself, instead opting to address its commitment to the franchise as a whole. It appears new details for an upcoming Indiana Jones title could spell the bright future or complete demise of the long-teased adventure. Only time will tell.

'The Boss' Springsteen is coming to World Tour

Activision just announced that Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen will be making his video game debut on Guitar Hero World Tour later this month. Tuesday, January 27th to be exact. The Springsteen DLC will be released as a FREE download through February 4th and include the tracks "Born to Run" and "My Lucky Day" off his latest album Working on a Dream. If you wait until after February 4th to download the Springstreen tracks, expect to pay 320 MS points.

Free content is free content and we aren't complaining, but would we be in the minority to have asked for the song "The Wrestler" as part of the free DLC giveaway? Heck, we'd even pay the $2 going rate for that track.

Pachter predicts 360 price cut by E3 2009

According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, a price cut is in the cards for the Xbox 360 by the time E3 2009 rolls out this summer (June to be precise). The price cut, says Pachter, is likely to come on the heels of a price cut for Sony's Playstation 3, which he believes will drop to $299 in April. In response, Pachter expects the Xbox 360 Pro model (which currently comes packed with a 60GB hard drive) to drop to $249. While the article doesn't mention the Xbox 360 Arcade or Elite, we'd say it's a safe bet that they'll also drop in price whenever the Pro does. What about the Wii, you say? Don't expect a price cut until demand starts to decline (so, like, never?).

It's worth noting that Pachter's not the only one predicting a PS3 price cut. Even Microsoft is predicting one in the near future. Assuming that happens, it only makes sense that Microsoft would follow suit.

Castle Crashers 'King Pack' DLC releasing this Wed [update]

Update: GSB informs us that the DLC will contain two new characters (Open Faced Grey Knight and The King), a new seal animal orb named Pelter, three new weapons including the Gold Sword, and a King's Heal potion that heals your entire party.

Thanks to one helpful Major Nelson, we've just been informed that Castle Crashers' firstest downloadable content will be releasing to the Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday and will be priced at 160 Microsoft points. The King Pack is the DLC's name and if the name is any indication of what'll be included in the paid content, we'd say there'd be a king involved in it somewhere. Now that we think about it, the new content will probably look something like this.

We've contacted The Behemoth regarding this Castle Crashers DLC and are patiently awaiting concrete details.

Fallout 3 patch released, Anchorage DLC dated

Bethesda just sent word that a new Fallout 3 title update has just been released earlier this morning and will insta-download once connected to Xbox Live with a copy of Fallout in your 360 disc drive. Information and a really, really long list of the bug fixes can viewed here.

But there's more! The upcoming Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage DLC has been dated and given an official price. The 800 Microsoft point DLC will be available for download off the Xbox Live Marketplace on (drumroll) Tuesday, January 27th. Good times.

Fable II Knothole Island DLC now available

For those of you who just can't get enough of the land of Albion, the Fable II Knothole Island downloadable content is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. We suppose that we should add that the DLC is only for those who can't get enough of Albion and have ten bucks to spare though, as the new content will cost you 800 Microsoft Points. The content contains new achievements, a brand new island to explore and a special Resurrection Shrine.

A quick note of clarification: there is also a "free" Knothole Island download available, but it's not what you think. The free download will only allow players without the DLC to play co-op with players that have purchased it. And no, you can't download the free DLC and play the new content with someone who purchased the premium version. You can still play co-op with someone who has it, but you'll have to purchase the premium version in order to visit Knothole Island together.

Quickie addendum: It looks like the free DLC does come with some free goodies. You can get them from Gordon the submariner (no, really) in the Bowerstone Market docks.

World at War celebrates its Live supremacy

Wouldn't you know, Call of Duty: World at War was the number one most played Xbox Live game for the week of January 5th. How ... special? The most played Live games list also informs us that Halo 3 holds the number two spot, Gears of War 2 is firmly planted at the number three spot and CoD4 has slipped to the number four position. Number five, you ask? It's Left 4 Dead.

Greenberg talks up MS strategy, 2009 lineup

In an interview with G4TV, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg had quite a lot to say about the Xbox 360's performance in 2008 as well as what's in store for the future. Greenberg began by trumpeting the 2008 numbers that were released last week, also noting high sales for Gears of War 2, Call of Duty: World at War and Left 4 Dead. He then clarified that the Xbox 360 has at least a 1 million unit lead over the PS3 in Europe (by install base, not sales). When asked about the runaway success of the Wii, Greenberg stated that the two machines offered different experiences and that he saw no reason why both couldn't successful. "I look at retail outlets and car companies and airlines... you know there's more than one," said Greenberg, adding, "I think what we're finding is that there are two platforms that are clearly having success." Greenberg also reiterated his belief that Sony will have to reduce the price of the PS3 "sooner, rather than later" if the company wishes to remain competitive.

Perhaps most tantalizingly, Greenberg spoke to Microsofts still nebulous lineup for 2009. He noted that while 2009 is "a big year for Halo fans" thanks to Halo Wars and Halo 3: ODST, Microsoft still has plenty up its digital sleeve. Greenberg said that Microsoft prefers to "under promise and over deliver," explaining that the company likes to save announcements until a product is close to launch. He cites the NXE as an example, saying that the company kept it under wraps -- well, mostly -- until E3 2008, which preceded the November launch in the same year.

And before you ask, no, he didn't drop any hints as to what said projects might be. Our guess: Alan Wake and Duke Nukem Forever will both launch this year exclusively on Xbox 360 ... on the same day.

Knothole Island comes with 'Resurrection Shrine'

To prevent the pain that is caused by millions of fanboys attacking us with wooden baseball bats, because they claim we "ruined their Fable 2 experience" by "revealing a huge spoiler", we'll say this: Spoiler alert!

Now, for those who are daring enough to read further, onto the goods. Lionhead Studios just hinted that a certain "Resurrection Shrine" will be included in Fable 2's upcoming Knothole Island DLC. The shrine's resurrection abilities have only one use and, for those who completed their main Fable 2 quest and made a certain decision, said resurrection should be obvious. Got it?
