Resident Evil 5 demo now infects XBLM worldwide
Attention Resident Evil fans not currently living on the island nation of Japan: The Resident Evil 5 demo is now available to Xbox Live Gold members everywhere (except Germany). The demo contains two levels and allows for co-op play both offline and over Xbox Live. There don't appear to be any major differences between this demo and the demo that was released in Japan last month, so don't expect any surprises if you managed to play it before. Actually, there might be one surprise: It probably won't stop working week from now.
Go ahead and queue up your download right now. While you're waiting, why not check out our impressions of the Japanese demo after the break? It'll do you good.

Resident Evil 5: Capcom says 16 player listing on pack art is wrong
Resident Evil has largely been a single-player affair but Capcom looks to change that trend with a fully realized co-op mode in the upcoming Resident Evil 5. It seems that gamers are excited enough about the possibilities a two-player Resident Evil 5 can bring but for a brief moment it looked like the game included a 16 player multiplayer mode.
Originally discovered by D+Pad, the UK pack shot of Resident Evil 5 lists support for up to 16 players via system link. At first the Internet didn't know what to think until Capcom told Videogaming247 that the pack shot was correct but declined any further comment. While the Internet went into frenzy mode about a potential 16 player zombie hunt, Capcom again contacted Videogaming247, this time confirming the art was indeed an error, saying, "Turns out our pack art was wrong!"
So there you have it, kids. Resident Evil 5 will only include a two-player co-op mode. It's new enough for the series, right? Baby steps, people.

Resident Evil 5 CE exposed, $90 for admission

If your Resident Evil 5 obsession is so great that you're comfortable with the idea of spending $90 to bring RE5 zombie killing into your home, then we have the perfect spending solution.
Capcom just revealed what'll be included in the Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (pictured above) and also confirming that it'll be priced at $89.99. Fret not though, because the CE looks to be worth some (if not all) of the additional cost. Not only will gamers get the actual RE5 game disc, but will also be treated to Steel Book packaging, game manual, a Chris Redfield figure, Tricell messenger bag, BSAA patch, and a swank Kijuju African necklace. It's quite the nice CE.
Watch out, it's RE5's Kijuju episode 2
And, in case you missed the first episode, we've embedded it after the break.
RE5 demo to include new 'action controls' option [update]

Update: While the new demo will include the option to use the new action controls, were were mistaken in regards to what the action controls let you do. They WILL NOT let you move and shoot at the same time, but will allow aiming with the right thumbstick. Furthermore, the action controls were present in the Japanese demo that was released last month. X3F apologizes for the error.
While browsing through Capcom's wordy Resident Evil 5 demo press release, we came across an interesting nugget of information that'll even pique the interest of those who already ninja-played the Japanese RE5 demo.
While browsing through Capcom's wordy Resident Evil 5 demo press release, we came across an interesting nugget of information that'll even pique the interest of those who already ninja-played the Japanese RE5 demo.
Specifically, with the upcoming demo, Capcom will let gamers "choose between the classic 'Resident Evil'-style controls or switch to the newer 'Action' controls inspired by games like 'Gears of War 2' and 'Halo 3.'" Yes sir, the new action controls will be accessible in the new demo

CES 09: It's Resident Evil 5 on a seven story screen

Schmoozing it up at the Capcom hosted Resident Evil 5 partay at Vegas' Planet Hollywood, team Joystiq was kind enough to share with us how insanely amazing the setup was for the RE5 demo. Picture a seven story tall screen, RE5 goodness on the building's exterior and humungo Kijuju text everywhere. It's a seriously chilly-amazing RE5 experience. Video after the break.

Resident Evil 5 Demo graphical comparison called in favor of the Xbox 360
Resident Evil 5 is going to look fantastic no matter where you play it but when the two console demos are put head-to-head, which one do you think has the graphical edge? You guessed it, it's the Xbox 360.
Dot50Cal over at The-Horror.com put together a fantastic gallery of screen shots from both versions of the demo. While both look great, Dot50Cal notes that the Xbox 360 version appears to be a few builds ahead of the PS3; shadows and sharpness appear to be the major difference. But don't go too crazy X-heads, these comparisons are based on a demo and not the final game and some only show very small differences. Check out Dot50Cal's images for a closer look.

Chew on some new Resident Evil 5 footage

Joystiq plays new Resident Evil 5 levels, X3F ... doesn't

Us, well, we got to play the demo at least, but don't think for one second that that's enough to stave off our jealousy. Oh, no. Just to give you an idea of what's in store when you inevitably click the source link below, here's a choice quote we've pulled from the piece: "a boss fight against a giant, flying bat/hornet/cow creature."
Yeah, Joystiq better watch its back. That's all we're saying.

Resident Evil 5 gets African box arted

(click to embiggen)
Fresh from the printer and ready to make its worldwide debut is new Resident Evil 5 box art that comes complete with an eerie Kijuju feel, a touch of Africa and a dash of "you got my back, I got yours." We think the RE5 box art can be best described by the ever eloquent Capcom's PR folks. Ahem ...
"The new box art imagery gives players a sneak peak into the nightmarish world of Resident Evil 5 as the art shows off the most thrilling new features in the game including the action-packed new 2-player co-op, the setting of Kijuju where light and darkness bring new horror and mysterious scribbling that represent a fear that no fan will forget...."
