Ryu's Forgotten Adventures

Ryu's Forgotten Adventures

Ninja Gaiden
Released: 1992 (Europe only)
Platform: Sega Master System
Due to the Master System being discontinued, Ninja Gaiden (MS) never made it to North America. While it follows the same ninja warrior Ryu, it offered a new plot where Ryu learns his entire village has been massacred and returns to find the sacred Bushido scroll had been stolen.

Gameplay-wise the game was very similar to the NES releases, offering similar move sets and weaponry. The game also was released as Ninja Gaiden in Europe, whereas all previous installments in the series were branded as Shadow Warrior.

Ninja Gaiden: Shadow
Released: 1991
Platform: GameBoy
Often believed to be a licensed edit of Shadow of the Ninja, a Natsume ninja title that Tecmo altered to fit the Ninja Gaiden franchise, Ninja Gaiden Shadow made a minor splash when released. Following Ryu the game pits the warrior against Emperor Garuda and his minions hellbent on world domination. What else could they want?

Ninja Gaiden
Released: 1991
Platform: Game Gear
The Game Gear release of Ninja Gaiden was a remake of the original NES storyline. A very, very bad remake.
