Alone in the Dark finally coming in November
Still waiting for Alone in the Dark? Is a release date of autumn 2008 too vague for you? Not to worry, Eurogamer just got official word from Atari that Alone in the Dark for the PS3 will be arriving in November. Obviously, Eurogamer reports on European release dates, but since Alone in the Dark for the PS2/360/Wii launched in the US four days after the European release date, we are assuming the US will get the game in November as well.
Hopefully, we'll see some of that episodic content to make up for the time PS3 owners had to wait. Or did the five-month delay (coupled with hilariously bad reviews) cause any disinterest?
Alone in the Dark demo still MIA, still coming

Alone in the Dark producer talks design
It's really a refreshing idea, and one we'd like to see implemented in more games. The interview is a worthwhile read. We suggest you check it out. Oh, and just so you know Polloni isn't merely spewing hot air, check out Joystiq's (very positive) impressions of the game.
Alone in the Dark Wii cuts some corners
First and most obviously, the Wii version's graphics won't be as pretty. Aside from that, though, some of the environments had to be changed, and according to Klepek, some new levels were constructed for Alone in the Dark Wii. (We assume that means there are new levels remodeled on the old levels, not that there are new levels.) For example, Central Park is a large, open world on the HD systems, whereas it's not on the Wii. With changes in the environments also came slight changes in the story, but we're not sure how significant these alterations are.
You can also expect some gameplay elements to disappear, like dynamic fire. Things can still light on fire, but not, uh, dynamically.
Losing the open world scenarios is what hurts the most, but the other changes don't seem too bad. Are these cuts enough to scare you away from the Wii version, or is it all just sausage to you?

No more big budget games for Atari
So, while a direct sequel to Alone in the Dark sounds unlikely, it's possible we might see similar games released in an episodic manner instead (as was the original plan for Alone in the Dark, which still incorporates an episodic structure). Harrison sees episodic games with integrated community features as a new direction for Atari and the games industry in general, giving video games the kind of "water cooler" effect that television shows enjoy. Sounds interesting to us.

Pre-order Alone in the Dark, get some free goodies and $10 off
Over at Gamestop, they have a pretty solid pre-order deal for future Alone in the Dark purchasers that is a mix of money savings and free swag goodness. If you plop down your pre-order cash before Alone in the Dark's June release, you'll not only get $10 off the game itself, but they'll also throw in a free t-shirt and a free soundtrack as well. This offer isn't good for the special edition seeing that Gamestop doesn't even have a listing for the special edition on their site, but if you're all but guaranteed to make a Alone in the Dark purchase, then this pre-order deal is a must.

Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and see the promised demo before the week is out. We're really hoping it will make believers out of us. We want to believe.
Alone in the Dark demo in early May

The survival horror genre hasn't been to big on the Xbox in general, recent releases not withstanding of course. And Atari's fifth series entry is going to be one of the big games to tide scare-happy gamers over until the ever awaited other fifth game in a series, Resident Evil 5. Even though Alone in the Dark 5 was pushed back to June 24th, it's expected to sell well and we're glad that there'll be a demo long in advance of release. Set tentatively for release in early May, gamers should have well over a month before the game hits shelves to evaluate it in some form.
Alone in the Dark pushed to June 24
All we know is that if we don't get our horror fix soon, we may have to resort to something drastic like reading.

Alone in the Dark website is intentionally unsettling
Central Park is a place full of creepy things and pervs. At least, that's what the Alone in the Dark website would have you believe. Before yesterday, CentralDark was just a teaser site. In order to promote its upcoming game, though, Atari has recently added some rather disturbing stories about Central Park to the game's official website. The site is scheduled to be updated with articles every two weeks until the game's release in May.
Also, on a personal note: This blogger grew up relatively close to Central Park, and it's a pretty nice place. Hear that, potential visitors? Don't let this marketing scare you. (This post was paid for by the New York Department of Tourism.*)
*Not really.
