XBLA in Brief: Boogie Bunnies

We occasionally do hands-on features (or even full reviews) of certain Xbox Live Arcade games or demos that catch our fancy. There are other games, though, that slip through the cracks. So, this week we're endeavoring to give you a quick glance at Boogie Bunnies. Honestly, Boogie Bunnies isn't worth much more than a quick glance anyway, at least if the trial version is anything to go by. Boogie Bunnies is a by-the-numbers puzzle game through and through, and not a great one at that. The objective is simple, faced with an oncoming grid of ridiculously cute multicolored bunnies, you must launch your bunny into others of the same color. Connect three or more and they will disappear. Doing this cleverly will cause other bunnies to fall into other bunnies of the same color, thus destroying them and creating a chain reaction. And that's pretty much it. Oh, wait, the red bunnies also destroy other bunnies adjacent to them, like a bomb. And that's pretty much it.

Boogie Bunnies hippity hops to the XBLA

Today is Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday and those colorful, charming and ever so bubbly Boogie Bunnies have descended upon the XBLA early this morning. Be prepared to be overly cheerful.

Downloadable off of the XBLM to all Live subscribers (except those in India, Japan and Korea) for 800 Microsoft points is Artech Studios' color matching puzzle game Boogie Bunnies. And don't the name fool you, these bunnies are as hardcore as they come. Their innocent bunny giggles hide years and years of torture, torment and anger that makes them extremely unstable and volatile. Don't believe us? Take a look for yourself and watch the Boogie Bunnies gameplay video embedded after the break. After watching, just try to tell us there isn't something "off" with those furry creatures.

This Wednesday: Boogie Bunnies do the 'match 3 dance' on XBLA

This week's Xbox Live Arcade offerings comes in the form of a match-three game from Sierra. Not interesting, you say? What if we told you you were match brightly colored dancing lagomorphs? Still not interested? What if we said the screenshots indicate each pair of matched bunnies blew up in elimination? Still no interest, you say? Okay, well, we give up.

Boogie Bunnies comes to Xbox Live Arcade this wednesday at 4:00 a.m. EST for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). The press release for this week's game also notes that Rez HD and Poker Smash are coming soon, while Lode Runner is due "later in 2008."

Boogie Bunnies boogies onto the XBLA this week

Have you been feeling down and out lately? A tad depressed and sad, because nothing happy or exciting has come to the Xbox Live Arcade for a while? Well, cheer up lad, because there's a group of happy, bouncy Boogie Bunnies bouncing their way to the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, January 16th on a mission to make the world happy. Oh joyful times!

Artech Studios' Boogie Bunnies is a "match-3 puzzle game" in which you try to match your bunny colors while you move them around from three different sides. The game features local multiplayer, co-op, Xbox Live functionality and sports all kinds of furry creatures including what the game description calls "diva bunnies". Exciting stuff. Boogie Bunnies will set you back 800 Microsoft points and be available to all Live regions come Wednesday. Boogie out ...

Rumor: Boogie Bunnies to hop onto XBLA soon

We've been waiting to play Boogie Bunnies for a long while ever since it was announced this Summer. The game's colorful, bouncing, little bunnies are so damn adorable that we can't help but get a little excited. And our excitement-ometer has reached new highs with a reference to the game's release being posted on Xbox.com.

This week over on the GB version of Xbox.com, they've posted a feature article titled "Rabbits in your Headlights!" where they talk about how wicked cool Boogie Bunnies is and how it's played. Now here's where it gets juicy. At the very bottom of the article you'll notice that it says "Boogie Bunnies is available from LIVE Arcade now for just 800 MS Points". Available now? Upon reading that we frantically jumped online to sift through the XBLA games list to find some bunnies, but sadly none were found. So, we conclude that the game is supposed to release relatively soon. Could it be a special release alongside Metal Slug 3 this week? Could Boogie Bunnies be releasing the following week? Nobody is sure, but we're confident that our adorable bunny fun isn't too far off. Bring on the bunnies!

Sierra's ambitious Winter XBLA plans

If you're planning your next XBLA purchases for the next few months then be sure to not count out Sierra's upcoming library of games, because they actually look promising.

The crew over at IGN got some hands on time with all six, count 'em six, of developer Sierra's new games that are set to release on the Xbox Live Arcade this Winter. So, enough of the fluff let's get to the goods. Sierra's bountiful and very diverse Winter XBLA lineup includes a 3D space shooter called Aces of the Galaxy, a mystical hack, hack, slash slasher called Arkadian Warriors, the TV based Battlestar Galactica, a puzzling bunny game called Boogie Bunnies, a casual gamer's RTS Commanders: Attack of the Genos, and finally Switchball. See, we told you it was a diverse group of games. You can check out IGN's hands-on take of each Arcade title as well as screenshots and video from each game after the jump. And with such an interesting lineup of adventure, sci-fi, shooter and action based games we can't help but be most excited to play Boogie Bunnies. Dancing bunnies ... what more can we say?
