Contra 4 controls give us pause (and other buttons)

We've reached the point where every single Contra 4 news piece that comes in has us gripping the arms of our chairs, afraid that we'll fall from the dizzying heights of ecstasy that we've just been sent to. The experience is both exhilarating and terrifying.

Even this image of Contra 4's control setup, taken at one of Comic-Con's demo stations last week, gave us cause to throw our office windows open, yelling out our excitement to the pedestrians below. Press B to jump! Press Y to fire! Press L to switch weapons! How great life is!

Seeing the voice behind Jeanne D'Arc

Sony's upcoming SRPG, Jeanne D'Arc impresses with stellar production values. At Comic Con, GameTrailers was able to talk to Kari Wahlgren, voice of the titular lead character. In the informal chat, you'll see that she doesn't have a French accent -- it's something she just had to pick up for her role. Sony emphasized that the accent needed to be mild. Looking at the footage, we think it works quite well for the role.

Building Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow's story

There's something truly compelling about the story of Logan's Shadow, the upcoming PSP-exclusive sequel to Dark Mirror. Greg Rucka, the story writer behind Logan's Shadow, talked to IGN at Comic-Con about building Logan's Shadow's story. Interestingly, he was pitched to "salvage" the story and turn it into something far more substantial.

It didn't take long for Rucka to figure out that there was a lot of potential in the Syphon Filter franchise: it just needed to take advantage of the story elements introduced from the previous games. "Coming off of Dark Mirror and the stuff that had happened to the character there, I know of was stunned to be like 'Why aren't you using any of this stuff you set up?' I mean, he now has a kid! He knows that he's a dad! There's all this fabulous character stuff here. So, we discussed that and sort of tried to find a way to use the relationships that really have been building throughout this series and turn them into good story ... that's what we got here."

The story puts into serious question the loyalties of those around him. Although Rucka doesn't want to give anything away, it seems that he wants players to stay on the edge of their seats for yet another Syphon Filter beyond the next installment: "We got, I think, a good, good story for Gabe and I think at the end -- I don't want to give anything away -- it's got a nice ending. It's got the kind of ending that I think -- hopefully -- people will be like 'Where's the next one?'"

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: Wait, there's (300) more!

So ... uhh, yeah. We kind of wrote off Comic Con Bringing it Home yesterday thinking that since it was July 30th that the whole Bringing it Home thing had officially come to an end and without our promised 300 theme. But, we were (thankfully) wrong and last night some more Comic Con goodies hit the XBLM. The final batch up content includes the 300 theme for 150 Microsoft points, another daily wrap-up, Chuck content as well as some Sarah Conner panel content too. Now, for the second time, we officially bid a farewell to you Comic Con 2007, you were great while you lasted, you gave us 300 goodies and that's all we can ask for.

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: The final wrap

Comic Con Bringing it Home has officially come to an end and this, our final update, brings a handful of new videos and a few themes. Most of the new video content available is Comic Con panel discussions of 300, Blade Runner, Superman Doomsday, and Supernatural with new themes from Yogi Bear, Wonder Woman and the Justice League. Speaking of themes, what ever happened to our promised 300 theme? Not only was it originally mentioned on the Xbox.com Comic Con page, but now any mention of it has been removed as we never saw it on the Marketplace. Someone from Warner Bros. is going to feel the wrath of X3F soon, be afraid. Anyhoo, Bringing it Home Comic Con edition is over, so take one final gander through all the downloadable goodness in the big handy list after the break. As we always say, long live Bringing it Home.

Video: Castle Crashers at Comic Con

If you've been wondering why there has been a lack of Castle Crashers news, then know that you aren't alone as we share the same curiosity. So, we all should be happy to hear that The Behemoth is at Comic Con this year showing off their latest Castle Crashers build and we can't think of a better way to celebrate the re-emergence of the game than with some gameplay footage from the show floor. Embedded above is the new footage featuring our colorful Castle Crashers knights in a boss battle and kicking bum. Be sure to watch until the end when our heroes are forced to turn on eachother to win a kiss from their princess. We so got five bucks on the red knight.

Konami considering Metal Gear collection for US

The Metal Gear collection is a hot item for hardcore Metal Gear fans. It includes nearly every game ever created in the Metal Gear franchise: the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and the PSP Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. In addition, documentary DVDs will also be included. In Japan, the package ran a very affordable 6250 yen -- about the same cost of one modern retail game.

So, will this collection make its way over to the States? At Comic Con, Kotaku's Michael McWhertor spoke to Konami's marketing VP, Anthony Kraus about the issue. He confirmed that Konami was "considering" the package, but they had to talk to retailers about interest in such a collection. If the collection comes to America, it might not be the exact same collection. It will, however, be "very similar."

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: 3rd day is all about videos

Do you smell that? No, not your dirty laundry wafting from the corner of your bedroom, it's the third day of Comic-Con Bringing it Home content and it's chalk-full of videos. Today we have a few themes (but still no 300 ... waiting) and a bunch of video content from Comic-Con. Actually, there is so much content from Comic-Con that we aren't sure what most of it is. But we do know what Jericho is and today's offerings includes a Jericho HD trailer and we must say, it's very enjoyable. After the break is a list of old and new Comic-Con content available on the Marketplace. Go get 'em tiger, raWr!

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: 2nd day brings theme'age

The second day of Comic-Con Bringing it Home has arrived delivering new themes, a trailer and a few other videos with a smile. You'll notice there are quite a few new purchasable themes available today including Babylon 5, Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones all for 150 Microsoft points. But if free is your kind of price, then download the free Rush Hour 3 theme and gamer picture pack, you know ... because it's free. Also available is a Superman Doomsday trailer and two other panel videos touching on an "interesting" analysis of the voices of Popeye and something called The Life and Art of Toth. Yeah, we aren't too sure about that one either. As always, make your way to the break and view all the new content available on the XBLM this second day of Comic-Con coverage.

Comic-Con BiH Wrap: it's a slow start

Today is the day we kick off Comic-Con 2007, the start of another Bringing it Home campaign and celebrate some new Marketplace content. Though, things are starting off a little slower than expected with only a Looney Tunes trailer, Superman theme, and a Comic-Con 2007 gamer picture. But then again, the Comic-Con gamer pic is totally free and totally cool, so we're (oddly enough) somewhat satisfied. Make your way to the break to see a complete list of all the new Bringing it Home content available on the XBLM and enjoy the first days' somewhat lackluster offerings.

We want a bloody 300 themed Elite!

A Bringing it Home Comic-Con press release just hit our inbox (viewable after the break) officially detailing all the Comic-Con XBLM goodness and talking about some special 300 themed Xbox 360 Elites. That's right, Microsoft and Warner Bros. have partnered to create 300 (total) Xbox 360 Elites themed with 300 style blood splatter. Yup, they're hot. But before you get too excited know that these Elites will only be given away during a special movie screening at Petco field during Comic-Con, which means we have no chance at winning one of these. Oh well ... they are still sort of pretty, so feel free to check out additional pictures of the 300 themed Elite as well as the official Comic-Con Bringing it Home press release after the break. THIS. IS. A 300 THEMED ELITE!
