New Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles trailer makes with the cheap scares

Capcom has issued a new trailer for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, complete with high production values and --OMG what was that?! Sorry, but you see things keep popping --AHHHH! We apologize, we're trying to get this post done, but scary things are making loud noises and jumping right out at us.

Hopefully you'll be able to get through this two-and-a-half minute trailer without suffering a coronary. We'll cross our fingers for you.

Rumor: Resident Evil returns to the silver screen in 2010

According to Shock Till You Drop, the Resident Evil movies are getting a fourth installment in Resident Evil: Afterlife. A supposed internal memo at Sony Pictures seems to point to a September 17, 2010 release. Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard about a fourth Resident Evil movie, so we're considering this rumor fairly credible.

Do we really want another Resident Evil movie, though? Hasn't Milla Jovovich beaten up enough zombified dogs and dudes in rubber suits?

Capcom reveals list of PSP and PS1 games coming to PSN

Capcom is making good on its promise to release a ridiculous amount of PSP and PS1 titles on the PSN and has announced, via the PS Blog, the next batch of games that will be available to (re)purchase. Resident Evil fans won't be disappointed with the rest of the PS1 franchise entries making their way to the PSN, alongside Dino Crisis. PSP fans will also get their hands on seven titles, including two Mega Man games, two Capcom Classics collections, Darkstalkers and Power Stone Collection.

It's a pretty good bunch of games and you can see the full list after the break. Other than Capcom Classics Remixed, which releases in America this week, none of the other games have been dated for any territory, nor even confirmed for European release. We've contacted Capcom Europe to ask, but release dates for the US will be revealed on the PlayStation Blog over time.

Resident Evil presented in clay

It's a bold choice to present the Resident Evil story entirely in clay, you'll get no argument from us. RE is a series known for horror, and it's surprisingly difficult to build tension when you know severed limbs could be re-attached with nary a fingertip's worth of pressure.

But we'd argue that the bolder choice is casting the most relaxed dude ever as Chris Redfield. Somehow, when he can't even be bothered to modulate his pitch for a giant man-eating python, he becomes even more badass. It's like Matthew McConaughey joined STARS. See for yourself right after the break.

Raccoon City recreated in Left 4 Dead, full RE3 campaign on the way

Well, that didn't take long. The Left 4 Dead authoring tools have been available to the public for just over a month and an aspiring game creator known as Outatime is already injecting some Resident Evil into Valve's zombie kill-a-thon. Specifically, Outatime is creating an entire campaign based on Resdent Evil 3. One map of the campaign has already been released, Resident Evil's legendary locale, Raccoon City. The map includes lots of twists and turns and a super spiffy rendition of the Raccoon City Police Department.

Those courageous enough to brave the map in its current beta status -- expect some frame rate issues -- can download it right here. You can also keep track of the campaign's progress on its development website. Check out a video walkthrough of the map after the break.

Capcom promises 'totally different' gameplay for Resident Evil Portable

Details on Capcom "Mystery Title #2" are slim at this moment. Quickly mentioned during Sony's E3 press conference, Resident Evil for PSP is shrouded in mystery. Will it be a port of the original PS1 game? A port of the Wii port of the Gamecube remake of the original game?

Well, looks like PSP owners are in for a "totally different" experience with the upcoming game. Capcom's Chris Kramer notes in his blog that the upcoming iteration will be an "all-new title created specifically for the PSP platform, with the PSP Go in mind." If it's designed for the go system, then we're probably looking at a PSN-exclusive game. Episodic, bite-sized Resident Evil, perhaps?

Hands-on: Resident Evil Archives

Here's a link to a review of the Resident Evil remake for GameCube that came out in 2002. Capcom didn't put any effort changing anything about the game before bringing it to the Wii under the moniker Resident Evil Archives, so we didn't think any effort would be required on our part to detail any non-existent changes.

It's the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil, albeit with a wider disc and a $30 price tag. If you've never played the game, it might be worth picking up -- if you can't find the cheaper, completely identical Gamecube version, that is. If you're hoping for any form of innovation, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

What would you do with a foot-tall Wesker?

Oh, sure. We know the term "foot-tall Wesker" contains limitless potential for innuendo, but we beseech you to fight your immature urges while answering the question posited in this post's headline. The 12" Resident Evil villain in question is an extremely detailed action figure from Hong Kong toy producers Hot Toys (check out a full-size render of the toy after the jump). You may have seen their Sheva and Chris models as well, though we find they lack Wesker's Rob Van Winkle-esque je ne sais quoi.

So, seriously. What would you do with a foot-tall Wesker? Use him as a doorstop? A paperweight? Plant him near your cabbage garden to scare away rabbits? The possibilities are endless.

Resident Evil: Director's Cut coming to PSN May 28

Before they were tentacle-headed mutant monstrosities, zombies in the Resident Evil series were simply zombies. They had no fanatic tendencies, nor zealous leader -- only a penchant for devouring brains and mindlessly shambling. It was a simpler time -- and as some would argue, a better time.

If you're looking to relive this golden undead era, but lack the proper disc-based media to do so, we've got great news -- as hinted at by a recent ESRB rating, Resident Evil: Director's Cut is coming to the PSN on May 28 (otherwise known as next Thursday) for $9.99. We can't wait -- though we wish it had support for trophies. We like to consider ourselves the master of unlocking trophies. (We feel dirty.)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil latest in ESRB update of PSone games

We've been hearing it over and over again: there's more PS1 games coming -- Sony swears! The latest update to the ESRB database shows a number of PSone games coming down the pipeline, with R-Type Delta and Metal Gear Solid standing out as the most exciting of the bunch.
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Resident Evil: Director's Cut
  • Spec Ops: Covert Assault
  • Spec Ops: Ranger Elite
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
  • King of Fighters '99
  • Medal of Honor Underground

Fat Princess tips hood to Resident Evil

Well, isn't that just adorable. Tipster John sent us this image from the Fat Princess beta, which you can see too by clicking on the game's "Online Store" section. We put a picture for you after the break if you're still completely confused.

It seems that after being utterly abandoned during Resident Evil 5, the merchant from RE4 has taken up a job in the world of Fat Princess. Well, we guess times are tight all over.

Resident Evil: Degeneration shambles onto iPhone

Don't worry, Capcom isn't delivering a poorly compressed download of the not-so-great movie to iPhone. Resident Evil: Degeneration (link goes to iTunes store) is a game based on the movie (based on the games)! Capcom's new "3rd-person survival horror shooter" features a combination of virtual d-pad controls and motion controls, including a "tilt-to-reload" feature and the ability to shake the phone to shake off zombies.

The game takes place in Harvardville Airport, which just happens to have been overrun by zombies. Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield must "rescue survivors, unlock puzzles and battle an army of undead." The $6.99 download sounds like the perfect way to both pass the time and deal with your frustration when you're stuck at the airport. Unless it's also full of zombies, in which case you should use the iPhone to call 911 or something.

Capcom: Resident Evil franchise nears 40 million units, SFII still best all-time seller

According to Capcom's investor relations website, the Resident Evil franchise has clocked nearly 40 million units sold since the series inception in 1996. The next closest to that is the (much older) Mega Man franchise, which has managed to move 28 million. Behind Mega Man is the Street Fighter franchise with 27 million to its name.

Even though Street Fighter can only lay claim to the third best franchise for Capcom, Ryu and friends can still boast about one thing: Street Fighter II for the Super Nintendo, which released waaaaay back in 1992, remains the company's all-time best seller, pushing 6.3 million copies. That said, Street Fighter II had better watch its back, as Resident Evil 5 has already sold 4.4 million copies since it released in March, nearly surpassing the 4.9 million copies of Capcom's second best seller, Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles features dynamic difficulty

For those of you planning to relive the horrors of Claire and Leon's jaunt through Raccoon City in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, know that Capcom has confirmed the game will have a dynamic, sliding scale difficulty, Siliconera reports. Depending on how well you're blasting zombie skulls and putting down lunging dogs, the game will ramp up the difficulty or, should you find yourself nothing more than a walking, talking snack for the many undead frequenting this once sleepy mountain town, the game will ease back and give you a fighting chance.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is scheduled for release this winter.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles trailer blasts through Raccoon City

It's been about a month and a half since we've seen anything on Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, and boy has the wait been worth it. This latest trailer not only shows off several memorable areas in Raccoon City, but it also reveals some of the iconic baddies from the Resident Evil universe making a return, all the while making sure to pour on the buckets of blood. You'd think zombies wouldn't bleed that much, what with coagulation and all. But, then again, you'd think the dead would never walk, either ...

So, head past the break to watch the video, and keep your eyes peeled for Ada Wong, who manages to make a brief appearance.
